العَلَق

اِقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ اَلذِي خَلَقَ﴿1﴾

اقرأ باسم ربك الذي خلق

Read in the name of your Lord Who created,

خَلَقَ اَلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ﴿2﴾

خلق الإنسن من علق

created man from a clinging clot.

اِقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ اَلْأَكْرَمُ﴿3﴾

اقرأ وربك الأكرم

Read, and your Lord is the Most Generous,

اُلذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ﴿4﴾

الذي علم بالقلم

Who taught by the pen,

عَلَّمَ اَلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ﴿5﴾

علم الإنسن ما لم يعلم

taught man what he did not know.

كَلَّا إِنَّ اَلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰ﴿6﴾

كلا إن الإنسن ليطغى

Indeed, man transgresses

أَن رَّءَاهُ اُسْتَغْنَىٰ﴿7﴾

أن رءاه استغنى

when he deems himself to be self-sufficient.

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ اَلرُّجْعَىٰ﴿8﴾

إن إلى ربك الرجعى

Indeed, to your Lord is the return.

أَرَٰيْتَ اَلذِي يَنْهَىٰ﴿9﴾

أريت الذي ينهى

Have you seen the one who prevents

عَبْداً إِذَا صَلَّىٰ﴿10﴾

عبدا إذا صلى

a slave [of Allah] from praying?

أَرَٰيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى اَلْهُدَىٰ﴿11﴾

أريت إن كان على الهدى

What if this [slave] is rightly guided,

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ﴿12﴾

أو أمر بالتقوى

and enjoins righteousness?

أَرَٰيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ﴿13﴾

أريت إن كذب وتولى

How about the one who denies and turns away?

أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ اَللَّهَ يَرَىٰ﴿14﴾

ألم يعلم بأن الله يرى

Does he not know that Allah is watching all?

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ﴿15﴾

كلا لئن لم ينته

No indeed; if he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock

لَنَسْفَعاَ بِالنَّاصِيَةِ﴿16﴾

لنسفعا بالناصية

a lying, sinful forelock.

نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ﴿17﴾

ناصية كذبة خاطية

So let him call his associates;

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ﴿18﴾

فليدع ناديه

We will call the wardens of Hellfire.

سَنَدْعُ اُلزَّبَانِيَةَ﴿19﴾

سندع الزبانية

No indeed; do not obey him, but prostrate and draw near [to Allah].

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِب﴿20﴾

كلا لا تطعه واسجد واقترب
