اِقْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمْ وَهُمْ فِي غَفْلَةٖ مُّعْرِضُونَ﴿1﴾
اقترب للناس حسابهم وهم في غفلة معرضون
The reckoning of the people has drawn near, yet they are turning away heedlessly.
مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٖ مِّن رَّبِّهِم مُّحْدَثٍ إِلَّا اَسْتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ﴿2﴾
ما يأتيهم من ذكر من ربهم محدث إلا استمعوه وهم يلعبون
Whenever new revelation comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in jest,
لَٰهِيَةٗ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَأَسَرُّواْ اُلنَّجْوَى اَلذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ هَلْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثْلُكُمْ أَفَتَأْتُونَ اَلسِّحْرَ وَأَنتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ﴿3﴾
لهية قلوبهم وأسروا النجوى الذين ظلموا هل هذا إلا بشر مثلكم أفتأتون السحر وأنتم تبصرون
with their hearts heedless. The wrongdoers whisper to one another in secret, “Is this but a human being just like yourselves? Will you then follow his magic, although you openly see?”
قُل رَّبِّي يَعْلَمُ اُلْقَوْلَ فِي اِلسَّمَآءِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَهْوَ اَلسَّمِيعُ اُلْعَلِيمُ﴿4﴾
قل ربي يعلم القول في السماء والأرض وهو السميع العليم
He said, “My Lord knows every word spoken in the heavens and earth, for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
بَلْ قَالُواْ أَضْغَٰثُ أَحْلَٰمِ بَلِ اِفْتَرَيٰهُ بَلْ هُوَ شَاعِرٞ فَلْيَأْتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٖ كَمَا أُرْسِلَ اَلْأَوَّلُونَ﴿5﴾
بل قالوا أضغث أحلم بل افتريه بل هو شاعر فليأتنا بـاية كما أرسل الأولون
Yet they say, “This [Qur’an] is a set of jumbled dreams! Rather, he has fabricated it! Rather, he is a poet! So let him bring us a sign just as the earlier messengers were sent with.”
مَا ءَامَنَتْ قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَٰهَا أَفَهُمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿6﴾
ما ءامنت قبلهم من قرية أهلكنها أفهم يؤمنون
Not a single town We destroyed before them had believed. Will they then believe?
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ إِلَّا رِجَالاٗ يُوحَىٰ إِلَيْهِمْ فَسْـَٔلُواْ أَهْلَ اَلذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ﴿7﴾
وما أرسلنا قبلك إلا رجالا يوحى إليهم فسـلوا أهل الذكر إن كنتم لا تعلمون
We did not send before you [O Prophet] except men to whom We gave a revelation, so [O people] ask the People of the Scriptures if you do not know.
وَمَا جَعَلْنَٰهُمْ جَسَداٗ لَّا يَأْكُلُونَ اَلطَّعَامَ وَمَا كَانُواْ خَٰلِدِينَ﴿8﴾
وما جعلنهم جسدا لا يأكلون الطعام وما كانوا خلدين
We did not give them bodies that needed no food, nor were they immortal.
ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَٰهُمُ اُلْوَعْدَ فَأَنجَيْنَٰهُمْ وَمَن نَّشَآءُ وَأَهْلَكْنَا اَلْمُسْرِفِينَ﴿9﴾
ثم صدقنهم الوعد فأنجينهم ومن نشاء وأهلكنا المسرفين
Then We fulfilled Our promise to them: We saved them and those whom We willed, and destroyed those who transgressed all bounds.
لَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ كِتَٰباٗ فِيهِ ذِكْرُكُمْ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ﴿10﴾
لقد أنزلنا إليكم كتبا فيه ذكركم أفلا تعقلون
We have sent down to you [O people] a Book in which there is honor for you. Do you not then understand?
وَكَمْ قَصَمْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٖ كَانَتْ ظَالِمَةٗ وَأَنشَأْنَا بَعْدَهَا قَوْماً ءَاخَرِينَ﴿11﴾
وكم قصمنا من قرية كانت ظالمة وأنشأنا بعدها قوما ءاخرين
[Imagine] how many towns of wrongdoers We have destroyed, and raised after them another people!
فَلَمَّا أَحَسُّواْ بَأْسَنَا إِذَا هُم مِّنْهَا يَرْكُضُونَ﴿12﴾
فلما أحسوا بأسنا إذا هم منها يركضون
When they sensed Our punishment, they started running away from it.
لَا تَرْكُضُواْ وَارْجِعُواْ إِلَىٰ مَا أُتْرِفْتُمْ فِيهِ وَمَسَٰكِنِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْـَٔلُونَ﴿13﴾
لا تركضوا وارجعوا إلى ما أترفتم فيه ومسكنكم لعلكم تسـلون
“Do not run away, but return to your luxuries and dwellings, perhaps you will be questioned.”
قَالُواْ يَٰوَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ﴿14﴾
قالوا يويلنا إنا كنا ظلمين
They said, “Woe to us! We were indeed wrongdoers.”
فَمَا زَالَت تِّلْكَ دَعْوَيٰهُمْ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلْنَٰهُمْ حَصِيداً خَٰمِدِينَ﴿15﴾
فما زالت تلك دعويهم حتى جعلنهم حصيدا خمدين
They kept crying this out loud until We mowed them down, lifeless.
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا اَلسَّمَآءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ﴿16﴾
وما خلقنا السماء والأرض وما بينهما لعبين
We did not create the heavens and earth and all that is between them for fun.
لَوْ أَرَدْنَا أَن نَّتَّخِذَ لَهْواٗ لَّاتَّخَذْنَٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّا إِن كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ﴿17﴾
لو أردنا أن نتخذ لهوا لاتخذنه من لدنا إن كنا فعلين
If We had wished for a pastime, We could have had it from Our own, if We were to do so.
بَلْ نَقْذِفُ بِالْحَقِّ عَلَى اَلْبَٰطِلِ فَيَدْمَغُهُ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٞ وَلَكُمُ اُلْوَيْلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَ﴿18﴾
بل نقذف بالحق على البطل فيدمغه فإذا هو زاهق ولكم الويل مما تصفون
Rather, We hurl the truth at falsehood, and it crushes it, so it vanishes. Woe to you for what you falsely ascribe [to Allah]!
وَلَهُ مَن فِي اِلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ عِندَهُ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِ وَلَا يَسْتَحْسِرُونَ﴿19﴾
وله من في السموت والأرض ومن عنده لا يستكبرون عن عبادته ولا يستحسرون
To Him belongs all those who are in the heavens and earth. Those [angels] who are with Him are not too proud to worship Him, nor do they ever grow weary.
يُسَبِّحُونَ اَليْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ لَا يَفْتُرُونَ﴿20﴾
يسبحون اليل والنهار لا يفترون
They glorify Him day and night tirelessly.
أَمِ اِتَّخَذُواْ ءَالِهَةٗ مِّنَ اَلْأَرْضِ هُمْ يُنشِرُونَ﴿21﴾
أم اتخذوا ءالهة من الأرض هم ينشرون
Or have they taken gods from the earth who [cannot even] resurrect the dead?
لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَا ءَالِهَةٌ إِلَّا اَللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا فَسُبْحَٰنَ اَللَّهِ رَبِّ اِلْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ﴿22﴾
لو كان فيهما ءالهة إلا الله لفسدتا فسبحن الله رب العرش عما يصفون
If there had been gods besides Allah in the heavens and earth, both realms would have fallen in disorder. Glory be to Allah – Lord of the Throne – far above what they ascribe [to Him].
لَا يُسْـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَفْعَلُ وَهُمْ يُسْـَٔلُونَ﴿23﴾
لا يسـل عما يفعل وهم يسـلون
He cannot be questioned for what He does, but they will be questioned.
أَمِ اِتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِ ءَالِهَةٗ قُلْ هَاتُواْ بُرْهَٰنَكُمْ هَٰذَا ذِكْرُ مَن مَّعِي وَذِكْرُ مَن قَبْلِي بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ اَلْحَقَّ فَهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ﴿24﴾
أم اتخذوا من دونه ءالهة قل هاتوا برهنكم هذا ذكر من معي وذكر من قبلي بل أكثرهم لا يعلمون الحق فهم معرضون
Or have they taken other gods besides Him? Say, “Bring your proof. Here is the Book of those who are with me, and the Book of those who came before me.” Yet most of them do not know the truth, so they turn away.
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا يُوحَىٰ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا فَاعْبُدُونِ﴿25﴾
وما أرسلنا من قبلك من رسول إلا يوحى إليه أنه لا إله إلا أنا فاعبدون
“We never sent before you [O Prophet] any messenger without revealing to him that none has the right to be worshiped except Me, so worship Me.”
وَقَالُواْ اُتَّخَذَ اَلرَّحْمَٰنُ وَلَداٗ سُبْحَٰنَهُ بَلْ عِبَادٞ مُّكْرَمُونَ﴿26﴾
وقالوا اتخذ الرحمن ولدا سبحنه بل عباد مكرمون
They say, “The Most Compassionate has begotten offspring!” Glory be to Him! In fact, those [angels] are His honored slaves.
لَا يَسْبِقُونَهُ بِالْقَوْلِ وَهُم بِأَمْرِهِ يَعْمَلُونَ﴿27﴾
لا يسبقونه بالقول وهم بأمره يعملون
They do not speak before He speaks, and they only do as He commands.
يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يَشْفَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ اِرْتَضَىٰ وَهُم مِّنْ خَشْيَتِهِ مُشْفِقُونَ﴿28﴾
يعلم ما بين أيديهم وما خلفهم ولا يشفعون إلا لمن ارتضى وهم من خشيته مشفقون
He knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them. They cannot intercede except for whom He pleases, and they are fearful in awe of Him.
وَمَنْ يَّقُلْ مِنْهُمْ إِنِّيَ إِلَٰهٞ مِّن دُونِهِ فَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِيهِ جَهَنَّمَ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي اِلظَّٰلِمِينَ﴿29﴾
ومن يقل منهم إني إله من دونه فذلك نجزيه جهنم كذلك نجزي الظلمين
If anyone of them were to say, “I am god besides Him,” We would punish him with Hell. This is how We punish the wrongdoers.
أَوَلَمْ يَرَ اَلذِينَ كَفَرُواْ أَنَّ اَلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقاٗ فَفَتَقْنَٰهُمَا وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ اَلْمَآءِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿30﴾
أولم ير الذين كفروا أن السموت والأرض كانتا رتقا ففتقنهما وجعلنا من الماء كل شيء حي أفلا يؤمنون
Are the disbelievers not aware that the heavens and earth were joined together and then We split them apart? We created from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?
وَجَعَلْنَا فِي اِلْأَرْضِ رَوَٰسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِهِمْ وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجاٗ سُبُلاٗ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ﴿31﴾
وجعلنا في الأرض روسي أن تميد بهم وجعلنا فيها فجاجا سبلا لعلهم يهتدون
We have set on the earth firm mountains so it does not shake with them, and We have made therein broad pathways so that they may find their way.
وَجَعَلْنَا اَلسَّمَآءَ سَقْفاٗ مَّحْفُوظاٗ وَهُمْ عَنْ ءَايَٰتِهَا مُعْرِضُونَ﴿32﴾
وجعلنا السماء سقفا محفوظا وهم عن ءايتها معرضون
And We have made the sky a well-protected canopy, yet they turn away from its signs.
وَهْوَ اَلذِي خَلَقَ اَليْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ كُلّٞ فِي فَلَكٖ يَسْبَحُونَ﴿33﴾
وهو الذي خلق اليل والنهار والشمس والقمر كل في فلك يسبحون
It is He Who created the night and the day, the sun and the moon – each floating in its orbit.
وَمَا جَعَلْنَا لِبَشَرٖ مِّن قَبْلِكَ اَلْخُلْدَ أَفَإِيْن مِّتَّ فَهُمُ اُلْخَٰلِدُونَ﴿34﴾
وما جعلنا لبشر من قبلك الخلد أفإين مت فهم الخلدون
We did not grant immortality to any human being before you [O Prophet]. So if you die, will they live forever?
كُلُّ نَفْسٖ ذَآئِقَةُ اُلْمَوْتِ وَنَبْلُوكُم بِالشَّرِّ وَالْخَيْرِ فِتْنَةٗ وَإِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ﴿35﴾
كل نفس ذائقة الموت ونبلوكم بالشر والخير فتنة وإلينا ترجعون
Every soul will taste death; We test you with bad and good as a trial, then to Us you will all be returned.
وَإِذَا رَءَاكَ اَلذِينَ كَفَرُواْ إِنْ يَّتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُؤاً أَهَٰذَا اَلذِي يَذْكُرُ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَهُم بِذِكْرِ اِلرَّحْمَٰنِ هُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ﴿36﴾
وإذا رءاك الذين كفروا إن يتخذونك إلا هزؤا أهذا الذي يذكر ءالهتكم وهم بذكر الرحمن هم كفرون
When the disbelievers see you, they only take you in ridicule, [saying], “Is this the one who speaks ill of your gods?” while they reject even the mention of the Most Compassionate.
خُلِقَ اَلْإِنسَٰنُ مِنْ عَجَلٖ سَأُوْرِيكُمْ ءَايَٰتِي فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونِ﴿37﴾
خلق الإنسن من عجل سأوريكم ءايتي فلا تستعجلون
Man is created of haste. I will show you My signs, so do not ask Me to hasten them.
وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا اَلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ﴿38﴾
ويقولون متى هذا الوعد إن كنتم صدقين
They say, “When will this promise come to pass, if you are truthful?”
لَوْ يَعْلَمُ اُلذِينَ كَفَرُواْ حِينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَنْ وُّجُوهِهِمُ اُلنَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُهُورِهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ﴿39﴾
لو يعلم الذين كفروا حين لا يكفون عن وجوههم النار ولا عن ظهورهم ولا هم ينصرون
If only the disbelievers knew the moment when they would be unable to ward the Fire off their faces or their backs, nor would they be helped.
بَلْ تَأْتِيهِم بَغْتَةٗ فَتَبْهَتُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ﴿40﴾
بل تأتيهم بغتة فتبهتهم فلا يستطيعون ردها ولا هم ينظرون
Rather, it will come upon them suddenly and stun them; they will not be able to avert it, nor will they be given respite.
وَلَقَدُ اُسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٖ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِالذِينَ سَخِرُواْ مِنْهُم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ﴿41﴾
ولقد استهزي برسل من قبلك فحاق بالذين سخروا منهم ما كانوا به يستهزءون
Indeed, there were messengers before you who were ridiculed, but those who mocked them were encompassed by what they used to ridicule.
قُلْ مَنْ يَّكْلَؤُكُم بِاليْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ مِنَ اَلرَّحْمَٰنِ بَلْ هُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِم مُّعْرِضُونَ﴿42﴾
قل من يكلؤكم باليل والنهار من الرحمن بل هم عن ذكر ربهم معرضون
Say, “Who can protect you by night and by day against the Most Compassionate?” Yet they turn away from the admonition of their Lord.
أَمْ لَهُمْ ءَالِهَةٞ تَمْنَعُهُم مِّن دُونِنَا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَا هُم مِّنَّا يُصْحَبُونَ﴿43﴾
أم لهم ءالهة تمنعهم من دوننا لا يستطيعون نصر أنفسهم ولا هم منا يصحبون
Do they have gods who can defend them against Us? They cannot even help themselves, nor will they be protected from Us.
بَلْ مَتَّعْنَا هَٰؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ اُلْعُمُرُ أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّا نَأْتِي اِلْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا أَفَهُمُ اُلْغَٰلِبُونَ﴿44﴾
بل متعنا هؤلاء وءاباءهم حتى طال عليهم العمر أفلا يرون أنا نأتي الأرض ننقصها من أطرافها أفهم الغلبون
Nevertheless, We have provided for them and their forefathers luxuries which they enjoyed for a long time. Do they not see that We gradually reduce the land from its outlying sides? Is it they who will then prevail?
قُلْ إِنَّمَا أُنذِرُكُم بِالْوَحْيِ وَلَا يَسْمَعُ اُلصُّمُّ اُلدُّعَآءَ اذَا مَا يُنذَرُونَ﴿45﴾
قل إنما أنذركم بالوحي ولا يسمع الصم الدعاء اذا ما ينذرون
Say, “I only warn you by divine revelation.” But the deaf cannot hear the call when they are warned.
وَلَئِن مَّسَّتْهُمْ نَفْحَةٞ مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَٰوَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ﴿46﴾
ولئن مستهم نفحة من عذاب ربك ليقولن يويلنا إنا كنا ظلمين
If a mere breath of your Lord’s torment were to touch them, they would surely say, “Woe to us! We were indeed wrongdoers.”
وَنَضَعُ اُلْمَوَٰزِينَ اَلْقِسْطَ لِيَوْمِ اِلْقِيَٰمَةِ فَلَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٞ شَئْاٗ وَإِن كَانَ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٖ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ أَتَيْنَا بِهَا وَكَفَىٰ بِنَا حَٰسِبِينَ﴿47﴾
ونضع الموزين القسط ليوم القيمة فلا تظلم نفس شيا وإن كان مثقال حبة من خردل أتينا بها وكفى بنا حسبين
We will place the scales of justice on the Day of Resurrection, and no soul will be wronged in the least. Even if a deed is the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. Sufficient are We as Reckoners.
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ اَلْفُرْقَانَ وَضِيَآءٗ وَذِكْراٗ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ﴿48﴾
ولقد ءاتينا موسى وهرون الفرقان وضياء وذكرا للمتقين
We certainly gave Moses and Aaron the Criterion, shining light and admonition for the righteous,
اَلذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِالْغَيْبِ وَهُم مِّنَ اَلسَّاعَةِ مُشْفِقُونَ﴿49﴾
الذين يخشون ربهم بالغيب وهم من الساعة مشفقون
those who fear their Lord without seeing Him, and are apprehensive of the Hour.
وَهَٰذَا ذِكْرٞ مُّبَٰرَكٌ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ أَفَأَنتُمْ لَهُ مُنكِرُونَ﴿50﴾
وهذا ذكر مبرك أنزلنه أفأنتم له منكرون
And this [Qur’an] is a blessed reminder which We have sent down. Are you still denying it?
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا إِبْرَٰهِيمَ رُشْدَهُ مِن قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِ عَٰلِمِينَ﴿51﴾
ولقد ءاتينا إبرهيم رشده من قبل وكنا به علمين
Indeed, We had given Abraham sound judgment before, for We know him well.
إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَا هَٰذِهِ اِلتَّمَاثِيلُ اُلتِي أَنتُمْ لَهَا عَٰكِفُونَ﴿52﴾
إذ قال لأبيه وقومه ما هذه التماثيل التي أنتم لها عكفون
When he said to his father and his people, “What are these statues to which you are so devoted?”
قَالُواْ وَجَدْنَا ءَابَآءَنَا لَهَا عَٰبِدِينَ﴿53﴾
قالوا وجدنا ءاباءنا لها عبدين
They said, “We found our forefathers worshiping them.”
قَالَ لَقَدْ كُنتُمْ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمْ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖ﴿54﴾
قال لقد كنتم أنتم وءاباؤكم في ضلل مبين
He said, “Indeed, you and your forefathers were clearly misguided.”
قَالُواْ أَجِئْتَنَا بِالْحَقِّ أَمْ أَنتَ مِنَ اَللَّٰعِبِينَ﴿55﴾
قالوا أجيتنا بالحق أم أنت من اللعبين
They said, “Have you come to us with the truth, or are you joking?”
قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمْ رَبُّ اُلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ اِلذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ اَلشَّٰهِدِينَ﴿56﴾
قال بل ربكم رب السموت والأرض الذي فطرهن وأنا على ذلكم من الشهدين
He said, “Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and earth, Who created them, and I am one of those who bear witness to it.
وَتَاللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصْنَٰمَكُم بَعْدَ أَن تُوَلُّواْ مُدْبِرِينَ﴿57﴾
وتالله لأكيدن أصنمكم بعد أن تولوا مدبرين
By Allah, I will surely plot against your idols after you have turned and gone away.”
فَجَعَلَهُمْ جُذَٰذاً إِلَّا كَبِيراٗ لَّهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ يَرْجِعُونَ﴿58﴾
فجعلهم جذذا إلا كبيرا لهم لعلهم إليه يرجعون
So he broke them into pieces, except the biggest of them, so that they might come back to it.
قَالُواْ مَن فَعَلَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَا إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ اَلظَّٰلِمِينَ﴿59﴾
قالوا من فعل هذا بـالهتنا إنه لمن الظلمين
They said, “Who has done this to our gods? He is indeed one of the wrongdoers.”
قَالُواْ سَمِعْنَا فَتىٗ يَذْكُرُهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ﴿60﴾
قالوا سمعنا فتى يذكرهم يقال له إبرهيم
They said, “We heard a young man, speaking ill of them, who is called Abraham.”
قَالُواْ فَأْتُواْ بِهِ عَلَىٰ أَعْيُنِ اِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَ﴿61﴾
قالوا فأتوا به على أعين الناس لعلهم يشهدون
They said, “Bring him then before the eyes of the people, so that they may witness [his trial].”
قَالُواْ ءَٰانتَ فَعَلْتَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَا يَٰإِبْرَٰهِيمُ﴿62﴾
قالوا ءانت فعلت هذا بـالهتنا يإبرهيم
They said, “Are you the one who did this to our gods, O Abraham?”
قَالَ بَلْ فَعَلَهُ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَٰذَا فَسْـَٔلُوهُمْ إِن كَانُواْ يَنطِقُونَ﴿63﴾
قال بل فعله كبيرهم هذا فسـلوهم إن كانوا ينطقون
He said, “Rather, it was this biggest one who did it. So ask them, if they can speak!”
فَرَجَعُواْ إِلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ فَقَالُواْ إِنَّكُمْ أَنتُمُ اُلظَّٰلِمُونَ﴿64﴾
فرجعوا إلى أنفسهم فقالوا إنكم أنتم الظلمون
So they turned back to one another, and said, “Indeed, it is you who are the wrongdoers.”
ثُمَّ نُكِسُواْ عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمْ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا هَٰؤُلَآءِ يَنطِقُونَ﴿65﴾
ثم نكسوا على رءوسهم لقد علمت ما هؤلاء ينطقون
Then they turned to their obstinacy, [saying], “You already know that they cannot speak.”
قَالَ أَفَتَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اِللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُكُمْ شَئْاٗ وَلَا يَضُرُّكُمْ أُفّٖ لَّكُمْ وَلِمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اِللَّهِ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ﴿66﴾
قال أفتعبدون من دون الله ما لا ينفعكم شيا ولا يضركم أف لكم ولما تعبدون من دون الله أفلا تعقلون
Abraham said, “Do you then worship besides Allah that which can neither benefit nor harm you in the least?
قَالُواْ حَرِّقُوهُ وَانصُرُواْ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَ﴿67﴾
قالوا حرقوه وانصروا ءالهتكم إن كنتم فعلين
Fie upon you and upon all that you worship besides Allah! Do you not have any sense?”
قُلْنَا يَٰنَارُ كُونِي بَرْداٗ وَسَلَٰماً عَلَىٰ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ﴿68﴾
قلنا ينار كوني بردا وسلما على إبرهيم
They said, “Burn him and avenge your gods if you must do something.”
وَأَرَادُواْ بِهِ كَيْداٗ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمُ اُلْأَخْسَرِينَ﴿69﴾
وأرادوا به كيدا فجعلنهم الأخسرين
We said, “O fire, be cool and safe for Abraham.”
وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَلُوطاً إِلَى اَلْأَرْضِ اِلتِي بَٰرَكْنَا فِيهَا لِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿70﴾
ونجينه ولوطا إلى الأرض التي بركنا فيها للعلمين
They plotted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers.
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ نَافِلَةٗ وَكُلّاٗ جَعَلْنَا صَٰلِحِينَ﴿71﴾
ووهبنا له إسحق ويعقوب نافلة وكلا جعلنا صلحين
And We saved him and Lot [and brought him] to the land that we have blessed for all people.
وَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ أَئِمَّةٗ يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ فِعْلَ اَلْخَيْرَٰتِ وَإِقَامَ اَلصَّلَوٰةِ وَإِيتَآءَ اَلزَّكَوٰةِ وَكَانُواْ لَنَا عَٰبِدِينَ﴿72﴾
وجعلنهم أئمة يهدون بأمرنا وأوحينا إليهم فعل الخيرت وإقام الصلوة وإيتاء الزكوة وكانوا لنا عبدين
And We gave him Isaac, and then Jacob, a grandson, and We made all of them righteous.
وَلُوطاً ءَاتَيْنَٰهُ حُكْماٗ وَعِلْماٗ وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ مِنَ اَلْقَرْيَةِ اِلتِي كَانَت تَّعْمَلُ اُلْخَبَٰٓئِثَ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ قَوْمَ سَوْءٖ فَٰسِقِينَ﴿73﴾
ولوطا ءاتينه حكما وعلما ونجينه من القرية التي كانت تعمل الخبئث إنهم كانوا قوم سوء فسقين
And We made them leaders, guiding people by Our command, and We inspired them to do righteous deeds, establish prayer and give zakah; and they were Our true worshipers.
وَأَدْخَلْنَٰهُ فِي رَحْمَتِنَا إِنَّهُ مِنَ اَلصَّٰلِحِينَ﴿74﴾
وأدخلنه في رحمتنا إنه من الصلحين
To Lot We gave sound judgment and knowledge, and We saved him from the town that was engrossed in shameful practices. They were Indeed an evil and rebellious people.
وَنُوحاً إِذْ نَادَىٰ مِن قَبْلُ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ فَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ اَلْكَرْبِ اِلْعَظِيمِ﴿75﴾
ونوحا إذ نادى من قبل فاستجبنا له فنجينه وأهله من الكرب العظيم
And We admitted him to Our mercy, for he was one of the righteous.
وَنَصَرْنَٰهُ مِنَ اَلْقَوْمِ اِلذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ قَوْمَ سَوْءٖ فَأَغْرَقْنَٰهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿76﴾
ونصرنه من القوم الذين كذبوا بـايتنا إنهم كانوا قوم سوء فأغرقنهم أجمعين
And [remember] Noah, when he called out to Us before, so We responded to him and saved him and his household from the great distress.
وَدَاوُدَ وَسُلَيْمَٰنَ إِذْ يَحْكُمَٰنِ فِي اِلْحَرْثِ إِذْ نَفَشَتْ فِيهِ غَنَمُ اُلْقَوْمِ وَكُنَّا لِحُكْمِهِمْ شَٰهِدِينَ﴿77﴾
وداود وسليمن إذ يحكمن في الحرث إذ نفشت فيه غنم القوم وكنا لحكمهم شهدين
And We helped him against the people who rejected Our signs. They were indeed evil people, so We drowned them all.
فَفَهَّمْنَٰهَا سُلَيْمَٰنَ وَكُلّاً ءَاتَيْنَا حُكْماٗ وَعِلْماٗ وَسَخَّرْنَا مَعَ دَاوُدَ اَلْجِبَالَ يُسَبِّحْنَ وَالطَّيْرَ وَكُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ﴿78﴾
ففهمنها سليمن وكلا ءاتينا حكما وعلما وسخرنا مع داود الجبال يسبحن والطير وكنا فعلين
And [remember] David and Solomon, when they passed judgment about the tillage into which some people’s sheep had strayed at night, and We were witnesses to their judgment.
وَعَلَّمْنَٰهُ صَنْعَةَ لَبُوسٖ لَّكُمْ لِيُحْصِنَكُم مِّن بَأْسِكُمْ فَهَلْ أَنتُمْ شَٰكِرُونَ﴿79﴾
وعلمنه صنعة لبوس لكم ليحصنكم من بأسكم فهل أنتم شكرون
We made Solomon understand it, although We gave each of them sound judgment and knowledge. We subjected the mountains and birds to glorify Allah along with David. It was We Who did all this.
وَلِسُلَيْمَٰنَ اَلرِّيحَ عَاصِفَةٗ تَجْرِي بِأَمْرِهِ إِلَى اَلْأَرْضِ اِلتِي بَٰرَكْنَا فِيهَا وَكُنَّا بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَٰلِمِينَ﴿80﴾
ولسليمن الريح عاصفة تجري بأمره إلى الأرض التي بركنا فيها وكنا بكل شيء علمين
And We taught him the art of making coats of mail for you to protect yourselves in your battle. Will you then be grateful?
وَمِنَ اَلشَّيَٰطِينِ مَنْ يَّغُوصُونَ لَهُ وَيَعْمَلُونَ عَمَلاٗ دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَكُنَّا لَهُمْ حَٰفِظِينَ﴿81﴾
ومن الشيطين من يغوصون له ويعملون عملا دون ذلك وكنا لهم حفظين
And to Solomon [We subjected] the raging wind, to blow by his command to the land We had blessed. It is We Who have full knowledge of everything.
وَأَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ اَلضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ اُلرَّٰحِمِينَ﴿82﴾
وأيوب إذ نادى ربه أني مسني الضر وأنت أرحم الرحمين
And among the devils [We subjected] those who dived for him and performed other duties. It is We Who were watching over them.
فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِ مِن ضُرّٖ وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ أَهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةٗ مِّنْ عِندِنَا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْعَٰبِدِينَ﴿83﴾
فاستجبنا له فكشفنا ما به من ضر وءاتينه أهله ومثلهم معهم رحمة من عندنا وذكرى للعبدين
And [remember] Job, when he cried out to his Lord, “I have been struck by adversity, and You are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.”
وَإِسْمَٰعِيلَ وَإِدْرِيسَ وَذَا اَلْكِفْلِ كُلّٞ مِّنَ اَلصَّٰبِرِينَ﴿84﴾
وإسمعيل وإدريس وذا الكفل كل من الصبرين
So We responded to him and relieved his adversity, and We restored to him his family, twice as many, as a mercy from Us and as a reminder for Our worshipers.
وَأَدْخَلْنَٰهُمْ فِي رَحْمَتِنَا إِنَّهُم مِّنَ اَلصَّٰلِحِينَ﴿85﴾
وأدخلنهم في رحمتنا إنهم من الصلحين
And [remember] Ishmael, Idrīs and Dhul-Kifl; they were all steadfast.
وَذَا اَلنُّونِ إِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَٰضِباٗ فَظَنَّ أَن لَّن نَّقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِي اِلظُّلُمَٰتِ أَن لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَٰنَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ اَلظَّٰلِمِينَ﴿86﴾
وذا النون إذ ذهب مغضبا فظن أن لن نقدر عليه فنادى في الظلمت أن لا إله إلا أنت سبحنك إني كنت من الظلمين
And We admitted them to Our mercy, for they were truly righteous.
فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ مِنَ اَلْغَمِّ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُجِي اِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿87﴾
فاستجبنا له ونجينه من الغم وكذلك نجي المؤمنين
And [remember] the Man of the Whale [i.e., Jonah] when he departed in anger, thinking that We would not take him to task. Then he cried out in the depths of darkness, “None has the right to be worshiped except You. Glory be to You! I have certainly done wrong”.
وَزَكَرِيَّآءَ اذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْداٗ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ اُلْوَٰرِثِينَ﴿88﴾
وزكرياء اذ نادى ربه رب لا تذرني فردا وأنت خير الورثين
So We answered his prayer and rescued him from distress. This is how We rescue the believers.
فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ يَحْيَىٰ وَأَصْلَحْنَا لَهُ زَوْجَهُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِي اِلْخَيْرَٰتِ وَيَدْعُونَنَا رَغَباٗ وَرَهَباٗ وَكَانُواْ لَنَا خَٰشِعِينَ﴿89﴾
فاستجبنا له ووهبنا له يحيى وأصلحنا له زوجه إنهم كانوا يسرعون في الخيرت ويدعوننا رغبا ورهبا وكانوا لنا خشعين
And [remember] Zachariah, when he cried out to his Lord, “My Lord, do not leave me childless, for You are the Best of Inheritors.”
وَالتِي أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهَا مِن رُّوحِنَا وَجَعَلْنَٰهَا وَابْنَهَا ءَايَةٗ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿90﴾
والتي أحصنت فرجها فنفخنا فيها من روحنا وجعلنها وابنها ءاية للعلمين
So We answered his prayer and gave him John, and made his wife fertile. They used to hasten in doing good deeds and used to call upon Us with hope and fear, and they were humble before Us.
إِنَّ هَٰذِهِ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ وَأَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُونِ﴿91﴾
إن هذه أمتكم أمة وحدة وأنا ربكم فاعبدون
And [remember Mary] who guarded her chastity; We breathed in her [garment] through Our Spirit [Gabriel] and made her and her son a sign for all people.
وَتَقَطَّعُواْ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ كُلٌّ إِلَيْنَا رَٰجِعُونَ﴿92﴾
وتقطعوا أمرهم بينهم كل إلينا رجعون
Indeed, this religion of yours is one religion, and I am your Lord, so worship Me alone.
فَمَنْ يَّعْمَلْ مِنَ اَلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَهْوَ مُؤْمِنٞ فَلَا كُفْرَانَ لِسَعْيِهِ وَإِنَّا لَهُ كَٰتِبُونَ﴿93﴾
فمن يعمل من الصلحت وهو مؤمن فلا كفران لسعيه وإنا له كتبون
But people have divided themselves into sects, yet they will all return to Us.
وَحَرَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَٰهَا أَنَّهُمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ﴿94﴾
وحرم على قرية أهلكنها أنهم لا يرجعون
Whoever does righteous deeds while he is a believer, his efforts will not be denied, for We are recording them all.
حَتَّىٰ إِذَا فُتِحَتْ يَاجُوجُ وَمَاجُوجُ وَهُم مِّن كُلِّ حَدَبٖ يَنسِلُونَ﴿95﴾
حتى إذا فتحت ياجوج وماجوج وهم من كل حدب ينسلون
It is not possible for any town that We have destroyed to ever come back [to this world],
وَاقْتَرَبَ اَلْوَعْدُ اُلْحَقُّ فَإِذَا هِيَ شَٰخِصَةٌ أَبْصَٰرُ اُلذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يَٰوَيْلَنَا قَدْ كُنَّا فِي غَفْلَةٖ مِّنْ هَٰذَا بَلْ كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ﴿96﴾
واقترب الوعد الحق فإذا هي شخصة أبصر الذين كفروا يويلنا قد كنا في غفلة من هذا بل كنا ظلمين
until when Gog and Magog are let loose, swarming swiftly from every mound,
إِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اِللَّهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ أَنتُمْ لَهَا وَٰرِدُونَ﴿97﴾
إنكم وما تعبدون من دون الله حصب جهنم أنتم لها وردون
when the True Promise draws near, the eyes of those who disbelieved will stare in horror, [saying], “Woe to us! We were indeed heedless of this; nay, we were wrongdoers.”
لَوْ كَانَ هَٰؤُلَآءِ اَلِهَةٗ مَّا وَرَدُوهَا وَكُلّٞ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ﴿98﴾
لو كان هؤلاء الهة ما وردوها وكل فيها خلدون
Indeed, you and all that you worship besides Allah will be the fuel for Hell; you will surely enter it.
لَهُمْ فِيهَا زَفِيرٞ وَهُمْ فِيهَا لَا يَسْمَعُونَ﴿99﴾
لهم فيها زفير وهم فيها لا يسمعون
If these [idols] had truly been gods, they would not have entered it. But they will all abide therein forever.
إِنَّ اَلذِينَ سَبَقَتْ لَهُم مِّنَّا اَلْحُسْنَىٰ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ عَنْهَا مُبْعَدُونَ﴿100﴾
إن الذين سبقت لهم منا الحسنى أولئك عنها مبعدون
They will groan therein with anguish, and they will not be able to hear anything.
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ حَسِيسَهَا وَهُمْ فِي مَا اَشْتَهَتْ أَنفُسُهُمْ خَٰلِدُونَ﴿101﴾
لا يسمعون حسيسها وهم في ما اشتهت أنفسهم خلدون
But those for whom We have decreed the finest reward, they will be far away from it.
لَا يَحْزُنُهُمُ اُلْفَزَعُ اُلْأَكْبَرُ وَتَتَلَقَّيٰهُمُ اُلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ هَٰذَا يَوْمُكُمُ اُلذِي كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ﴿102﴾
لا يحزنهم الفزع الأكبر وتتلقيهم الملئكة هذا يومكم الذي كنتم توعدون
They will not hear its slightest hissing, and they will abide forever in whatever their souls desire.
يَوْمَ نَطْوِي اِلسَّمَآءَ كَطَيِّ اِلسِّجِلِّ لِلْكِتَٰبِ كَمَا بَدَأْنَا أَوَّلَ خَلْقٖ نُّعِيدُهُ وَعْداً عَلَيْنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ﴿103﴾
يوم نطوي السماء كطي السجل للكتب كما بدأنا أول خلق نعيده وعدا علينا إنا كنا فعلين
They will not be grieved by the Greatest Terror, and the angels will receive them [saying], “This is your Day that you were promised”.
وَلَقَدْ كَتَبْنَا فِي اِلزَّبُورِ مِن بَعْدِ اِلذِّكْرِ أَنَّ اَلْأَرْضَ يَرِثُهَا عِبَادِيَ اَلصَّٰلِحُونَ﴿104﴾
ولقد كتبنا في الزبور من بعد الذكر أن الأرض يرثها عبادي الصلحون
On the Day when We roll up the heavens like a scroll of records. Just as We originated the first creation, so We will bring it back. That is Our binding promise, which We will surely do.
إِنَّ فِي هَٰذَا لَبَلَٰغاٗ لِّقَوْمٍ عَٰبِدِينَ﴿105﴾
إن في هذا لبلغا لقوم عبدين
We have written in the Psalms after the Preserved Record, that the land will be inherited by My righteous slaves.
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةٗ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿106﴾
وما أرسلنك إلا رحمة للعلمين
Indeed, there is a message in this [Qur’an] for devoted worshipers.
قُلْ إِنَّمَا يُوحَىٰ إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَا إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٞ وَٰحِدٞ فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ﴿107﴾
قل إنما يوحى إلي أنما إلهكم إله وحد فهل أنتم مسلمون
We have not sent you [O Prophet] except as a mercy to the worlds.
فَإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَقُلْ ءَاذَنتُكُمْ عَلَىٰ سَوَآءٖ وَإِنْ أَدْرِي أَقَرِيبٌ أَم بَعِيدٞ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ﴿108﴾
فإن تولوا فقل ءاذنتكم على سواء وإن أدري أقريب أم بعيد ما توعدون
Say, “It is only revealed to me that your God is only One God; will you then submit to Him?
إِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ اُلْجَهْرَ مِنَ اَلْقَوْلِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْتُمُونَ﴿109﴾
إنه يعلم الجهر من القول ويعلم ما تكتمون
But if they turn away, say, “I have proclaimed the message to you all alike, and I do not know whether what you are warned of is near or far.
وَإِنْ أَدْرِي لَعَلَّهُ فِتْنَةٞ لَّكُمْ وَمَتَٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٖ﴿110﴾
وإن أدري لعله فتنة لكم ومتع إلى حين
Indeed, He knows what is said openly and knows what you conceal.
قُل رَّبِّ اِحْكُم بِالْحَقِّ وَرَبُّنَا اَلرَّحْمَٰنُ اُلْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ﴿111﴾
قل رب احكم بالحق وربنا الرحمن المستعان على ما تصفون
I do not know; perhaps this [delay] is a test for you and an enjoyment for a while.”
