Surah Al-Balad - Full Written — Qaloun Recitation

1

لَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا اَلْبَلَدِ﴿1﴾

I do swear by this city [of Makkah] –

2

وَأَنتَ حِلُّ بِهَٰذَا اَلْبَلَدِ﴿2﴾

and you are free of restriction [for a while] in this city –

3

وَوَالِدٖ وَمَا وَلَدَ﴿3﴾

and by every parent and his offspring,

4

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا اَلْإِنسَٰنَ فِي كَبَدٍ﴿4﴾

We have created man in hardship.

5

أَيَحْسِبُ أَن لَّنْ يَّقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٞ﴿5﴾

Does he think that none can ever have power over him?

6

يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالاٗ لُّبَداً﴿6﴾

He says, “I have squandered enormous wealth!”

7

أَيَحْسِبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ﴿7﴾

Does he think that no one sees him?

8

أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ عَيْنَيْنِ﴿8﴾

Have We not given him two eyes,

9

وَلِسَاناٗ وَشَفَتَيْنِ﴿9﴾

and a tongue and two lips,

10

وَهَدَيْنَٰهُ اُلنَّجْدَيْنِ﴿10﴾

and shown him the two ways [of right and wrong]?

11

فَلَا اَقْتَحَمَ اَلْعَقَبَةَ﴿11﴾

Yet he did not make his way through the steep path,

12

وَمَا أَدْرَيٰكَ مَا اَلْعَقَبَةُ﴿12﴾

and how do you know what the steep path is?

13

فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ﴿13﴾

It is freeing a slave,

14

أَوْ إِطْعَامٞ فِي يَوْمٖ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٖ﴿14﴾

or giving food on a day of hunger,

15

يَتِيماٗ ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ﴿15﴾

to an orphan relative,

16

أَوْ مِسْكِيناٗ ذَا مَتْرَبَةٖ﴿16﴾

or to a needy person in misery,

17

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ اَلذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوْاْ بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْاْ بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ﴿17﴾

then [most importantly] to be one of those who believe and exhort one another to patience and exhort one another to compassion.

18

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ اُلْمَيْمَنَةِ﴿18﴾

Such are the people of the Right.

19

وَالذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَٰبُ اُلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ﴿19﴾

As for those who reject Our signs, they are the people of the Left,

20

عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٞ مُّوصَدَةُ﴿20﴾

who will be locked up in the Fire.

البَلَد
