وَالذَّٰرِيَٰتِ ذَرْواٗ﴿1﴾
والذريت ذروا
By the winds that scatter [dust],
فَالْحَٰمِلَٰتِ وِقْراٗ﴿2﴾
فالحملت وقرا
and by the clouds carrying loads of water,
فَالْجَٰرِيَٰتِ يُسْراٗ﴿3﴾
فالجريت يسرا
and by the ships that sail with ease,
فَالْمُقَسِّمَٰتِ أَمْراً﴿4﴾
فالمقسمت أمرا
and by the angels who distribute [blessings] by His command.
إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَصَادِقٞ﴿5﴾
إنما توعدون لصادق
Indeed, what you are promised is true,
وَإِنَّ اَلدِّينَ لَوَٰقِعٞ﴿6﴾
وإن الدين لوقع
and the Judgment will surely come to pass.
وَالسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ اِلْحُبُكِ﴿7﴾
والسماء ذات الحبك
By the heaven with its pathways,
إِنَّكُمْ لَفِي قَوْلٖ مُّخْتَلِفٖ﴿8﴾
إنكم لفي قول مختلف
Indeed, you [Makkans] have conflicting views.
يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ﴿9﴾
يؤفك عنه من أفك
He who is diverted from it is destined to be diverted.
قُتِلَ اَلْخَرَّٰصُونَ﴿10﴾
قتل الخرصون
Doomed are those who base their beliefs on conjecture.
اَلذِينَ هُمْ فِي غَمْرَةٖ سَاهُونَ﴿11﴾
الذين هم في غمرة ساهون
those who are steeped in ignorance heedlessly.
يَسْـَٔلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ اُلدِّينِ﴿12﴾
يسـلون أيان يوم الدين
They ask [mockingly], “When is the Day of Judgment?”
يَوْمَ هُمْ عَلَى اَلنَّارِ يُفْتَنُونَ﴿13﴾
يوم هم على النار يفتنون
It is the Day when they will be punished by the Fire.
ذُوقُواْ فِتْنَتَكُمْ هَٰذَا اَلذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ﴿14﴾
ذوقوا فتنتكم هذا الذي كنتم به تستعجلون
[It will be said], “Taste your punishment! This is what you were seeking to hasten.”
إِنَّ اَلْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّٰتٖ وَعُيُونٍ﴿15﴾
إن المتقين في جنت وعيون
Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and springs,
ءَاخِذِينَ مَا ءَاتَيٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحْسِنِينَ﴿16﴾
ءاخذين ما ءاتيهم ربهم إنهم كانوا قبل ذلك محسنين
receiving what their Lord will give them, for they were indeed doers of good beforehand.
كَانُواْ قَلِيلاٗ مِّنَ اَليْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ﴿17﴾
كانوا قليلا من اليل ما يهجعون
They used to sleep only a little at night,
وَبِالْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ﴿18﴾
وبالأسحار هم يستغفرون
and before dawn they would seek forgiveness,
وَفِي أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقّٞ لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ﴿19﴾
وفي أمولهم حق للسائل والمحروم
and in their wealth, there was a share for the beggar and the destitute.
وَفِي اِلْأَرْضِ ءَايَٰتٞ لِّلْمُوقِنِينَ﴿20﴾
وفي الأرض ءايت للموقنين
On earth there are signs for those who are certain in faith,
وَفِي أَنفُسِكُمْ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿21﴾
وفي أنفسكم أفلا تبصرون
and also within yourselves. Do you not see?
وَفِي اِلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقُكُمْ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ﴿22﴾
وفي السماء رزقكم وما توعدون
And in the heaven is your provision and all that you are promised.
فَوَرَبِّ اِلسَّمَآءِ وَالْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُ لَحَقّٞ مِّثْلَ مَا أَنَّكُمْ تَنطِقُونَ﴿23﴾
فورب السماء والأرض إنه لحق مثل ما أنكم تنطقون
By the Lord of the heaven and earth, this [resurrection] is certainly as true as the fact that you can speak.
هَلْ أَتَيٰكَ حَدِيثُ ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ اَلْمُكْرَمِينَ﴿24﴾
هل أتيك حديث ضيف إبرهيم المكرمين
Has there come to you the story of Abraham’s honored guests?
إِذْ دَخَلُواْ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُواْ سَلَٰماٗ قَالَ سَلَٰمٞ قَوْمٞ مُّنكَرُونَ﴿25﴾
إذ دخلوا عليه فقالوا سلما قال سلم قوم منكرون
When they came to him and said, “Peace.” He said, “Upon you be peace.” [saying to himself] “Unknown people!”
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ فَجَآءَ بِعِجْلٖ سَمِينٖ﴿26﴾
فراغ إلى أهله فجاء بعجل سمين
Then he went quickly to his household, and came with a fat [roasted] calf,
فَقَرَّبَهُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ﴿27﴾
فقربه إليهم قال ألا تأكلون
and placed it before them and said, “Will you not eat?”
فَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةٗ قَالُواْ لَا تَخَفْ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٖ﴿28﴾
فأوجس منهم خيفة قالوا لا تخف وبشروه بغلم عليم
He felt apprehensive about them. They said, “Do not be afraid,” and gave him glad tidings of a knowledgeable son.
فَأَقْبَلَتِ اِمْرَأَتُهُ فِي صَرَّةٖ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٞ﴿29﴾
فأقبلت امرأته في صرة فصكت وجهها وقالت عجوز عقيم
His wife cried out loud, and struck her face [in astonishment] and said, “[I am] a barren old woman!”
قَالُواْ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ إِنَّهُ هُوَ اَلْحَكِيمُ اُلْعَلِيمُ﴿30﴾
قالوا كذلك قال ربك إنه هو الحكيم العليم
They said, “This is what your Lord said. Indeed, He is the All-Wise, the All-Knowing.”
قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا اَلْمُرْسَلُونَ﴿31﴾
قال فما خطبكم أيها المرسلون
Abraham said, “Then what is your mission, O messengers?”
قَالُواْ إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمٖ مُّجْرِمِينَ﴿32﴾
قالوا إنا أرسلنا إلى قوم مجرمين
They said, “We have been sent to a wicked people,
لِنُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةٗ مِّن طِينٖ﴿33﴾
لنرسل عليهم حجارة من طين
to send down upon them stones of clay,
مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ﴿34﴾
مسومة عند ربك للمسرفين
marked by your Lord for the transgressors.”
فَأَخْرَجْنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿35﴾
فأخرجنا من كان فيها من المؤمنين
We brought out those believers who were there,
فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٖ مِّنَ اَلْمُسْلِمِينَ﴿36﴾
فما وجدنا فيها غير بيت من المسلمين
but We only found in it one Muslim household.
وَتَرَكْنَا فِيهَا ءَايَةٗ لِّلذِينَ يَخَافُونَ اَلْعَذَابَ اَلْأَلِيمَ﴿37﴾
وتركنا فيها ءاية للذين يخافون العذاب الأليم
And We left there a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.
وَفِي مُوسَىٰ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَٰهُ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ بِسُلْطَٰنٖ مُّبِينٖ﴿38﴾
وفي موسى إذ أرسلنه إلى فرعون بسلطن مبين
And [there is a sign in the story of] Moses when We sent him to Pharaoh with compelling proofs,
فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِ وَقَالَ سَٰحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٞ﴿39﴾
فتولى بركنه وقال سحر أو مجنون
But he and his supporters turned away, and he said about [Moses], “A magician or a madman!”
فَأَخَذْنَٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُ فَنَبَذْنَٰهُمْ فِي اِلْيَمِّ وَهْوَ مُلِيمٞ﴿40﴾
فأخذنه وجنوده فنبذنهم في اليم وهو مليم
So We seized him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea while he was blameworthy.
وَفِي عَادٍ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ اُلرِّيحَ اَلْعَقِيمَ﴿41﴾
وفي عاد إذ أرسلنا عليهم الريح العقيم
And [there is a sign in the story of] ‘Ād, when We sent against them the devastating barren wind.
مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَيْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتْهُ كَالرَّمِيمِ﴿42﴾
ما تذر من شيء أتت عليه إلا جعلته كالرميم
It spared nothing it came upon except that it reduced it to ruin and decay.
وَفِي ثَمُودَ إِذْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَمَتَّعُواْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٖ﴿43﴾
وفي ثمود إذ قيل لهم تمتعوا حتى حين
And [there is a sign in the story of] Thamūd, when they were told, “Enjoy yourselves for a while.”
فَعَتَوْاْ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ اُلصَّٰعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ﴿44﴾
فعتوا عن أمر ربهم فأخذتهم الصعقة وهم ينظرون
But they rebelled against the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them, while they were looking on.
فَمَا اَسْتَطَٰعُواْ مِن قِيَامٖ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُنتَصِرِينَ﴿45﴾
فما استطعوا من قيام وما كانوا منتصرين
They could not withstand it, nor could they ward it off.
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٖ مِّن قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ قَوْماٗ فَٰسِقِينَ﴿46﴾
وقوم نوح من قبل إنهم كانوا قوما فسقين
And the people of Noah [were also destroyed] before them. They were indeed a rebellious people.
وَالسَّمَآءَ بَنَيْنَٰهَا بِأَيَيْدٖ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ﴿47﴾
والسماء بنينها بأييد وإنا لموسعون
We built the heaven with might, and We are indeed expanding it.
وَالْأَرْضَ فَرَشْنَٰهَا فَنِعْمَ اَلْمَٰهِدُونَ﴿48﴾
والأرض فرشنها فنعم المهدون
And We spread out the earth. How well did We smooth it out!
وَمِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَّكَّرُونَ﴿49﴾
ومن كل شيء خلقنا زوجين لعلكم تذكرون
And We have created everything in pairs, so that you may take heed.
فَفِرُّواْ إِلَى اَللَّهِ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٞ﴿50﴾
ففروا إلى الله إني لكم منه نذير مبين
So flee to Allah. Indeed, I am a clear warner to you from Him.
وَلَا تَجْعَلُواْ مَعَ اَللَّهِ إِلَٰهاً ءَاخَرَ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٞ﴿51﴾
ولا تجعلوا مع الله إلها ءاخر إني لكم منه نذير مبين
And do not set up another god with Allah. Indeed, I am a clear warner to you from Him.”
كَذَٰلِكَ مَا أَتَى اَلذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُواْ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ﴿52﴾
كذلك ما أتى الذين من قبلهم من رسول إلا قالوا ساحر أو مجنون
Likewise, no messenger came to those before them without being told: “A magician, or a madman!”
أَتَوَاصَوْاْ بِهِ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٞ طَاغُونَ﴿53﴾
أتواصوا به بل هم قوم طاغون
Did they suggest this to one another? Rather they are transgressing people.
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَمَا أَنتَ بِمَلُومٖ﴿54﴾
فتول عنهم فما أنت بملوم
So turn away from them [O Prophet], for you are not to blame.
وَذَكِّرْ فَإِنَّ اَلذِّكْرَىٰ تَنفَعُ اُلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿55﴾
وذكر فإن الذكرى تنفع المؤمنين
But keep reminding them, for reminder benefits the believers.
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ اُلْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ﴿56﴾
وما خلقت الجن والإنس إلا ليعبدون
I have not created the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
مَا أُرِيدُ مِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٖ وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ يُّطْعِمُونِ﴿57﴾
ما أريد منهم من رزق وما أريد أن يطعمون
I seek no provision from them, nor do I want them to feed Me.
إِنَّ اَللَّهَ هُوَ اَلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو اُلْقُوَّةِ اِلْمَتِينُ﴿58﴾
إن الله هو الرزاق ذو القوة المتين
Indeed, it is Allah Who is the All-Provider, Lord of Power, the Mighty.
فَإِنَّ لِلذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ ذَنُوباٗ مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَٰبِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِ﴿59﴾
فإن للذين ظلموا ذنوبا مثل ذنوب أصحبهم فلا يستعجلون
Indeed, those who do wrong will have a share [of punishment] like that of their predecessors, so let them not ask Me to hasten it.
فَوَيْلٞ لِّلذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنْ يَّوْمِهِمُ اُلذِي يُوعَدُونَ﴿60﴾
فويل للذين كفروا من يومهم الذي يوعدون
So woe to those who disbelieve from [the punishment of] the Day which they are promised.
