الدُّخان

حَمِٓ وَالْكِتَٰبِ اِلْمُبِينِ﴿1﴾

حم والكتب المبين

Hā Mīm.

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَٰهُ فِي لَيْلَةٖ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ﴿2﴾

إنا أنزلنه في ليلة مبركة إنا كنا منذرين

By the clear Book.

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ﴿3﴾

فيها يفرق كل أمر حكيم

Indeed, We sent it down on a blessed night, We have been warning about.

أَمْراٗ مِّنْ عِندِنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ﴿4﴾

أمرا من عندنا إنا كنا مرسلين

On that night, every matter of wisdom is determined

رَحْمَةٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَ إِنَّهُ هُوَ اَلسَّمِيعُ اُلْعَلِيمُ﴿5﴾

رحمة من ربك إنه هو السميع العليم

by Our command. We have always sent messengers.

رَبُّ اُلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ﴿6﴾

رب السموت والأرض وما بينهما إن كنتم موقنين

as a mercy from your Lord. He is indeed the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْيِ وَيُمِيتُ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ اُلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿7﴾

لا إله إلا هو يحي ويميت ربكم ورب ءابائكم الأولين

Lord of the heavens and earth and all that is between them, if only you had sure faith.

بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكّٖ يَلْعَبُونَ﴿8﴾

بل هم في شك يلعبون

None has the right to be worshiped except Him, Who gives life and causes death – your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers.

فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي اِلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٖ مُّبِينٖ﴿9﴾

فارتقب يوم تأتي السماء بدخان مبين

But they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

يَغْشَى اَلنَّاسَ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ﴿10﴾

يغشى الناس هذا عذاب أليم

So wait for a day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke,

رَّبَّنَا اَكْشِفْ عَنَّا اَلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ﴿11﴾

ربنا اكشف عنا العذاب إنا مؤمنون

that will overwhelm the people. This is a painful punishment!

أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ اُلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٞ مُّبِينٞ﴿12﴾

أنى لهم الذكرى وقد جاءهم رسول مبين

[They will cry,] “Our Lord, remove the punishment from us; we will surely believe!”

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْاْ عَنْهُ وَقَالُواْ مُعَلَّمٞ مَّجْنُونٌ﴿13﴾

ثم تولوا عنه وقالوا معلم مجنون

How will they take heed, when a messenger who explained things clearly has already come to them?

إِنَّا كَاشِفُواْ اُلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلاً إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ﴿14﴾

إنا كاشفوا العذاب قليلا إنكم عائدون

Then they turned away from him and said, “[He is] a madman, taught by others.”

يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ اُلْبَطْشَةَ اَلْكُبْرَىٰ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ﴿15﴾

يوم نبطش البطشة الكبرى إنا منتقمون

We shall hold the punishment back for a while, but you will surely return [to disbelief].

وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٞ كَرِيمٌ﴿16﴾

ولقد فتنا قبلهم قوم فرعون وجاءهم رسول كريم

On the Day when We seize [them] with the greatest assault, We will surely exact retribution.

أَنْ أَدُّواْ إِلَيَّ عِبَادَ اَللَّهِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٞ﴿17﴾

أن أدوا إلي عباد الله إني لكم رسول أمين

Indeed, We tested the people of Pharaoh before them, when a noble messenger came to them,

وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُواْ عَلَى اَللَّهِ إِنِّيَ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَٰنٖ مُّبِينٖ﴿18﴾

وأن لا تعلوا على الله إني ءاتيكم بسلطن مبين

[saying], “Hand over to me the slaves of Allah. I am indeed a trustworthy messenger to you,

وَإِنِّي عُذْتُ بِرَبِّي وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ﴿19﴾

وإني عذت بربي وربكم أن ترجمون

and do not be arrogant towards Allah. I have certainly come to you with clear proof.

وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُواْ لِي فَاعْتَزِلُونِ﴿20﴾

وإن لم تؤمنوا لي فاعتزلون

And I certainly seek refuge with my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me to death.

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنَّ هَٰؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٞ مُّجْرِمُونَ﴿21﴾

فدعا ربه أن هؤلاء قوم مجرمون

If you do not believe me, then leave me alone.”

فَاسْرِ بِعِبَادِي لَيْلاً إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ﴿22﴾

فاسر بعبادي ليلا إنكم متبعون

Then he called upon his Lord, “These are wicked people”.

وَاتْرُكِ اِلْبَحْرَ رَهْواً إِنَّهُمْ جُندٞ مُّغْرَقُونَ﴿23﴾

واترك البحر رهوا إنهم جند مغرقون

[Allah said], “Leave along with My slaves by night; you will surely be pursued.

كَمْ تَرَكُواْ مِن جَنَّٰتٖ وَعُيُونٖ﴿24﴾

كم تركوا من جنت وعيون

And leave the sea parted; for they are surely an army destined to drown.”

وَزُرُوعٖ وَمَقَامٖ كَرِيمٖ﴿25﴾

وزروع ومقام كريم

[Imagine] how many gardens and springs they left behind,

وَنَعْمَةٖ كَانُواْ فِيهَا فَٰكِهِينَ﴿26﴾

ونعمة كانوا فيها فكهين

and crops and splendid mansions,

كَذَٰلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَٰهَا قَوْماً ءَاخَرِينَ﴿27﴾

كذلك وأورثنها قوما ءاخرين

and luxuries they used to rejoice therein.

فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ اُلسَّمَآءُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُنظَرِينَ﴿28﴾

فما بكت عليهم السماء والأرض وما كانوا منظرين

So it was; and We made another people inherit all that.

وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِي إِسْرَآءِيلَ مِنَ اَلْعَذَابِ اِلْمُهِينِ﴿29﴾

ولقد نجينا بني إسراءيل من العذاب المهين

Neither the heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they given any respite.

مِن فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَالِياٗ مِّنَ اَلْمُسْرِفِينَ﴿30﴾

من فرعون إنه كان عاليا من المسرفين

Thus did We save the Children of Israel from the humiliating punishment,

وَلَقَدِ اِخْتَرْنَٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى اَلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿31﴾

ولقد اخترنهم على علم على العلمين

from Pharaoh. He was indeed arrogant who transgressed all bounds.

وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُم مِّنَ اَلْأٓيَٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَٰٓؤٞاْ مُّبِينٌ﴿32﴾

وءاتينهم من الأيت ما فيه بلؤا مبين

We chose them knowingly over all other peoples.

إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا اَلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ﴿33﴾

إن هؤلاء ليقولون إن هي إلا موتتنا الأولى وما نحن بمنشرين

And We gave them signs in which there was a clear test.

فَأْتُواْ بِـَٔابَآئِنَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ﴿34﴾

فأتوا بـابائنا إن كنتم صدقين

Indeed, these [Makkans] say,

أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٖ وَالذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ أَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ مُجْرِمِينَ﴿35﴾

أهم خير أم قوم تبع والذين من قبلهم أهلكنهم إنهم كانوا مجرمين

“There is nothing after our first death, and we will not be resurrected,

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا اَلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ﴿36﴾

وما خلقنا السموت والأرض وما بينهما لعبين

then bring back our forefathers if you are truthful.”

مَا خَلَقْنَٰهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿37﴾

ما خلقنهما إلا بالحق ولكن أكثرهم لا يعلمون

Are they better [in power] or the people of Tubba‘ and those who were before them? We destroyed them, for they were truly wicked.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ اَلْفَصْلِ مِيقَٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿38﴾

إن يوم الفصل ميقتهم أجمعين

We have not created the heavens and earth and all that is between them for amusement.

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِي مَوْلىً عَن مَّوْلىٗ شَئْاٗ وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ﴿39﴾

يوم لا يغني مولى عن مولى شيا ولا هم ينصرون

We have not created them except for a true purpose, but most of them do not know.

إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ اَللَّهُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿40﴾

إلا من رحم الله إنه هو العزيز الرحيم

Indeed, the Day of Judgment is the time appointed for them all,

إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ اَلزَّقُّومِ طَعَامُ اُلْأَثِيمِ﴿41﴾

إن شجرت الزقوم طعام الأثيم

the Day when no patron will avail another in the least, nor will they be helped,

كَالْمُهْلِ تَغْلِي فِي اِلْبُطُونِ﴿42﴾

كالمهل تغلي في البطون

except those to whom Allah shows mercy. He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.

كَغَلْيِ اِلْحَمِيمِ﴿43﴾

كغلي الحميم

Indeed, the tree of Zaqqūm

خُذُوهُ فَاعْتُلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ اِلْجَحِيمِ﴿44﴾

خذوه فاعتلوه إلى سواء الجحيم

will be the food of the sinful,

ثُمَّ صُبُّواْ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ اِلْحَمِيمِ﴿45﴾

ثم صبوا فوق رأسه من عذاب الحميم

like molten metal that will boil in their bellies

ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلْكَرِيمُ﴿46﴾

ذق إنك أنت العزيز الكريم

like the boiling of scalding water.

إِنَّ هَٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِ تَمْتَرُونَ﴿47﴾

إن هذا ما كنتم به تمترون

[It will be said], “Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Blazing Fire.

إِنَّ اَلْمُتَّقِينَ فِي مُقَامٍ أَمِينٖ﴿48﴾

إن المتقين في مقام أمين

Then pour over his head the torment of scalding water.”

فِي جَنَّٰتٖ وَعُيُونٖ﴿49﴾

في جنت وعيون

“Taste this. You are surely the mighty and honorable!

يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٖ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٖ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ﴿50﴾

يلبسون من سندس وإستبرق متقبلين

This is what you [all] used to doubt.”

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٖ﴿51﴾

كذلك وزوجنهم بحور عين

Indeed, the righteous will be in a safe place,

يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ﴿52﴾

يدعون فيها بكل فكهة ءامنين

in gardens and springs,

لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا اَلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا اَلْمَوْتَةَ اَلْأُولَىٰ وَوَقَيٰهُمْ عَذَابَ اَلْجَحِيمِ﴿53﴾

لا يذوقون فيها الموت إلا الموتة الأولى ووقيهم عذاب الجحيم

wearing fine silk and heavy brocade, facing one another.

فَضْلاٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ اَلْفَوْزُ اُلْعَظِيمُ﴿54﴾

فضلا من ربك ذلك هو الفوز العظيم

So it will be, and We will marry them to maidens with gorgeous eyes.

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ﴿55﴾

فإنما يسرنه بلسانك لعلهم يتذكرون

They will call therein for every kind of fruit, safe and secure.

فَارْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ﴿56﴾

فارتقب إنهم مرتقبون

They will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will protect them from the punishment of the Blazing Fire,
