الفَجر

وَالْفَجْرِ﴿1﴾

والفجر

By the dawn,

وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٖ﴿2﴾

وليال عشر

and the ten nights,

وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ﴿3﴾

والشفع والوتر

and the even and the odd,

وَاليْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ﴿4﴾

واليل إذا يسر

and by the night when it comes,

هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٞ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ﴿5﴾

هل في ذلك قسم لذي حجر

are these oaths not sufficient for those who have sense?

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ﴿6﴾

ألم تر كيف فعل ربك بعاد

Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with ‘Ād

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ اِلْعِمَادِ﴿7﴾

إرم ذات العماد

of Iram, who were people of great stature,

اِلتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي اِلْبِلَٰدِ﴿8﴾

التي لم يخلق مثلها في البلد

the like of whom had never been created in the land;

وَثَمُودَ اَلذِينَ جَابُواْ اُلصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ﴿9﴾

وثمود الذين جابوا الصخر بالواد

and Thamūd, who carved out the rocks in the Valley;

وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي اِلْأَوْتَادِ﴿10﴾

وفرعون ذي الأوتاد

and the mighty and powerful Pharaoh?

اِلذِينَ طَغَوْاْ فِي اِلْبِلَٰدِ﴿11﴾

الذين طغوا في البلد

All of them transgressed in the land,

فَأَكْثَرُواْ فِيهَا اَلْفَسَادَ﴿12﴾

فأكثروا فيها الفساد

and spread therein much corruption,

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ﴿13﴾

فصب عليهم ربك سوط عذاب

so your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ﴿14﴾

إن ربك لبالمرصاد

Indeed, your Lord is ever vigilant.

فَأَمَّا اَلْإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا اَبْتَلَيٰهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ﴿15﴾

فأما الإنسن إذا ما ابتليه ربه فأكرمه ونعمه

As for man, when he is tested by his Lord by honoring him and bestowing blessings upon him, he says, “My Lord has [deservedly] honored me!”

فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيَ أَكْرَمَنِ﴿16﴾

فيقول ربي أكرمن

But when he is tested by restricting his provision, he says, “My Lord has [undeservedly] humiliated me!”

وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا اَبْتَلَيٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ﴿17﴾

وأما إذا ما ابتليه فقدر عليه رزقه

No indeed! You are not kind to the orphan,

فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيَ أَهَٰنَنِ﴿18﴾

فيقول ربي أهنن

nor do you urge one another to feed the needy,

كَلَّا بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ اَلْيَتِيمَ﴿19﴾

كلا بل لا تكرمون اليتيم

and you greedily consume the entire inheritance,

وَلَا تَحُضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ اِلْمِسْكِينِ﴿20﴾

ولا تحضون على طعام المسكين

and love wealth immensely.

وَتَأْكُلُونَ اَلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلاٗ لَّمّاٗ﴿21﴾

وتأكلون التراث أكلا لما

No indeed! When the earth is crushed over and over,

وَتُحِبُّونَ اَلْمَالَ حُبّاٗ جَمّاٗ﴿22﴾

وتحبون المال حبا جما

and your Lord comes with the angels, rank after rank,

كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ اِلْأَرْضُ دَكّاٗ دَكّاٗ﴿23﴾

كلا إذا دكت الأرض دكا دكا

and Hell is brought near on that Day – this is when man will understand, but what is the use of that understanding?

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفّاٗ صَفّاٗ﴿24﴾

وجاء ربك والملك صفا صفا

He will say, “Would that I had sent forth something for my [eternal] life!”

وَجِيٓءَ يَوْمَئِذِ بِجَهَنَّمَ﴿25﴾

وجيء يومئذ بجهنم

None can punish as He punishes on that Day,

يَوْمَئِذٖ يَتَذَكَّرُ اُلْإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ اُلذِّكْرَىٰ﴿26﴾

يومئذ يتذكر الإنسن وأنى له الذكرى

and none can bind as He binds.

يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي﴿27﴾

يقول يليتني قدمت لحياتي

[It will be said to the believer,] “O the tranquil soul!

فَيَوْمَئِذٖ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٞ﴿28﴾

فيومئذ لا يعذب عذابه أحد

Return to your Lord, well pleased and pleasing [to Him].

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٞ﴿29﴾

ولا يوثق وثاقه أحد

Join My [righteous] slaves,

يَٰأَيَّتُهَا اَلنَّفْسُ اُلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ﴿30﴾

يأيتها النفس المطمئنة

and enter My Paradise.”

اُرْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةٗ مَّرْضِيَّةٗ﴿31﴾

ارجعي إلى ربك راضية مرضية

فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَٰدِي وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي﴿32﴾

فادخلي في عبدي وادخلي جنتي
