اِلْحَآقَّةُ مَا اَلْحَآقَّةُ﴿1﴾
الحاقة ما الحاقة
The Inevitable Hour!
وَمَا أَدْرَيٰكَ مَا اَلْحَآقَّةُ﴿2﴾
وما أدريك ما الحاقة
What is the Inevitable Hour?
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادُ بِالْقَارِعَةِ﴿3﴾
كذبت ثمود وعاد بالقارعة
How do you know what the Inevitable Hour is?
فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُواْ بِالطَّاغِيَةِ﴿4﴾
فأما ثمود فأهلكوا بالطاغية
Thamūd and ‘Ād denied the Striking Calamity of the Hour.
وَأَمَّا عَادٞ فَأُهْلِكُواْ بِرِيحٖ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٖ﴿5﴾
وأما عاد فأهلكوا بريح صرصر عاتية
As for Thamūd, they were destroyed by a dreadful blast.
سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٖ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُوماٗ فَتَرَى اَلْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٖ﴿6﴾
سخرها عليهم سبع ليال وثمنية أيام حسوما فترى القوم فيها صرعى كأنهم أعجاز نخل خاوية
And as for ‘Ād, they were destroyed by a furious windstorm
فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّن بَاقِيَةٖ﴿7﴾
فهل ترى لهم من باقية
which He unleashed against them for seven successive nights and eight days, so you would see the people lying dead as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
وَجَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَٰتُ بِالْخَاطِئَةِ﴿8﴾
وجاء فرعون ومن قبله والمؤتفكت بالخاطية
Do you see any trace of them now?
فَعَصَوْاْ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةٗ رَّابِيَةً﴿9﴾
فعصوا رسول ربهم فأخذهم أخذة رابية
Also, Pharaoh and those who came before him, and the overturned cities [of Lot] committed the grave sin,
إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا اَلْمَآءُ حَمَلْنَٰكُمْ فِي اِلْجَارِيَةِ﴿10﴾
إنا لما طغا الماء حملنكم في الجارية
each disobeying the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a severe punishment.
لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةٗ وَتَعِيَهَا أُذْنٞ وَٰعِيَةٞ﴿11﴾
لنجعلها لكم تذكرة وتعيها أذن وعية
Indeed, when the floodwater overflowed, We carried you [O humans] in the sailing Ark,
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي اِلصُّورِ نَفْخَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ﴿12﴾
فإذا نفخ في الصور نفخة وحدة
so that We might make it a reminder for you, and that attentive ears may take heed.
وَحُمِلَتِ اِلْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ﴿13﴾
وحملت الأرض والجبال فدكتا دكة وحدة
Then when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast,
فَيَوْمَئِذٖ وَقَعَتِ اِلْوَاقِعَةُ﴿14﴾
فيومئذ وقعت الواقعة
and the earth and mountains are lifted up and crushed with a single blow,
وَانشَقَّتِ اِلسَّمَآءُ فَهْيَ يَوْمَئِذٖ وَاهِيَةٞ﴿15﴾
وانشقت السماء فهي يومئذ واهية
on that Day the Inevitable Event will occur.
وَالْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰ أَرْجَآئِهَا وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٖ ثَمَٰنِيَةٞ﴿16﴾
والملك على أرجائها ويحمل عرش ربك فوقهم يومئذ ثمنية
And the sky will split asunder and will be frail on that day,
يَوْمَئِذٖ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٞ﴿17﴾
يومئذ تعرضون لا تخفى منكم خافية
with the angels on all its sides, and on that Day, eight [mighty angels] will bear the Throne of your Lord above them.
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ اُقْرَءُواْ كِتَٰبِيَهْ﴿18﴾
فأما من أوتي كتبه بيمينه فيقول هاؤم اقرءوا كتبيه
On that day, you will be brought forth [before Allah], and none of your secrets will remain hidden.
إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ﴿19﴾
إني ظننت أني ملق حسابيه
As for the one who is given his Record in his right hand, he will say, “Here is my Record, read it!
فَهْوَ فِي عِيشَةٖ رَّاضِيَةٖ﴿20﴾
فهو في عيشة راضية
I was sure that I would meet my reckoning.”
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٖ﴿21﴾
في جنة عالية
So he will be in a pleasant life,
قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٞ﴿22﴾
قطوفها دانية
in a lofty garden,
كُلُواْ وَاشْرَبُواْ هَنِيٓـٔاَ بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِي اِلْأَيَّامِ اِلْخَالِيَةِ﴿23﴾
كلوا واشربوا هنيـا بما أسلفتم في الأيام الخالية
with clustered fruit within his reach.
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُ بِشِمَالِهِ﴿24﴾
وأما من أوتي كتبه بشماله
[They will be told,] “Eat and drink joyfully for what you did in the days gone by.”
فَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِي لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَٰبِيَهْ﴿25﴾
فيقول يليتني لم أوت كتبيه
As for the one who is given his Record in his left hand, he will say, “Would that I had not been given my Record,
وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ﴿26﴾
ولم أدر ما حسابيه
nor had I known anything of my reckoning!
يَٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ اِلْقَاضِيَةَ﴿27﴾
يليتها كانت القاضية
Would that it [i.e., death] had been the end of me!
مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّي مَالِيَه﴿28﴾
ما أغنى عني ماليه
My wealth has been of no avail to me.
هَّلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَٰنِيَهْ﴿29﴾
هلك عني سلطنيه
My authority has vanished.”
خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ﴿30﴾
خذوه فغلوه
[It will be said,] “Seize him and shackle him,
ثُمَّ اَلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ﴿31﴾
ثم الجحيم صلوه
then make him burn in the Blazing Fire,
ثُمَّ فِي سِلْسِلَةٖ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعاٗ فَاسْلُكُوهُ﴿32﴾
ثم في سلسلة ذرعها سبعون ذراعا فاسلكوه
then tie him up with a chain of seventy cubits long.
إِنَّهُ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ اِلْعَظِيمِ﴿33﴾
إنه كان لا يؤمن بالله العظيم
For he did not believe in Allah, the Most Great,
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ اِلْمِسْكِينِ﴿34﴾
ولا يحض على طعام المسكين
nor did he encourage feeding the needy.
فَلَيْسَ لَهُ اُلْيَوْمَ هَٰهُنَا حَمِيمٞ﴿35﴾
فليس له اليوم ههنا حميم
So Today he will have no close friend here,
وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٖ﴿36﴾
ولا طعام إلا من غسلين
nor any food except the discharge of wounds,
لَّا يَأْكُلُهُ إِلَّا اَلْخَٰطِـُٔونَ﴿37﴾
لا يأكله إلا الخطـون
none will eat it except the sinners.”
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿38﴾
فلا أقسم بما تبصرون
I swear by what you can see.
وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿39﴾
وما لا تبصرون
and what you cannot see!
إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٖ كَرِيمٖ﴿40﴾
إنه لقول رسول كريم
Indeed, this is the word of a noble Messenger,
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٖ قَلِيلاٗ مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ﴿41﴾
وما هو بقول شاعر قليلا ما تؤمنون
and it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe!
وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٖ قَلِيلاٗ مَّا تَذَّكَّرُونَ﴿42﴾
ولا بقول كاهن قليلا ما تذكرون
Nor is it the word of a soothsayer; little do you take heed!
تَنزِيلٞ مِّن رَّبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿43﴾
تنزيل من رب العلمين
It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ اَلْأَقَاوِيلِ﴿44﴾
ولو تقول علينا بعض الأقاويل
If he had falsely attributed something to Us,
لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِالْيَمِينِ﴿45﴾
لأخذنا منه باليمين
We would have surely seized him by the right hand,
ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ اُلْوَتِينَ﴿46﴾
ثم لقطعنا منه الوتين
then severed his aorta,
فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَٰجِزِينَ﴿47﴾
فما منكم من أحد عنه حجزين
and none of you could have rescued him.
وَإِنَّهُ لَتَذْكِرَةٞ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ﴿48﴾
وإنه لتذكرة للمتقين
This [Qur’an] is indeed a reminder for those who are righteous.
وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ﴿49﴾
وإنا لنعلم أن منكم مكذبين
And We surely know that some of you will be deniers,
وَإِنَّهُ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى اَلْكَٰفِرِينَ﴿50﴾
وإنه لحسرة على الكفرين
and it will certainly be a source of regret for the disbelievers.
وَإِنَّهُ لَحَقُّ اُلْيَقِينِ﴿51﴾
وإنه لحق اليقين
And this is indeed the absolute truth.
فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ اَلْعَظِيمِ﴿52﴾
فسبح باسم ربك العظيم
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
