لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ اِلْقِيَٰمَةِ﴿1﴾
لا أقسم بيوم القيمة
I swear by the Day of Resurrection,
وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اِللَّوَّامَةِ﴿2﴾
ولا أقسم بالنفس اللوامة
and I swear by the self-reproaching soul!
أَيَحْسِبُ اُلْإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ﴿3﴾
أيحسب الإنسن ألن نجمع عظامه
Does man think that We cannot reassemble his bones?
بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ﴿4﴾
بلى قدرين على أن نسوي بنانه
In fact, We are able to restore even his very fingertips.
بَلْ يُرِيدُ اُلْإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ﴿5﴾
بل يريد الإنسن ليفجر أمامه
But man desires to persist in sin,
يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ اُلْقِيَٰمَةِ﴿6﴾
يسـل أيان يوم القيمة
and asks [mockingly], “When is the Day of Resurrection?”
فَإِذَا بَرَقَ اَلْبَصَرُ﴿7﴾
فإذا برق البصر
But when the sight is dazzled,
وَخَسَفَ اَلْقَمَرُ﴿8﴾
وخسف القمر
and the moon is darkened,
وَجُمِعَ اَلشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ﴿9﴾
وجمع الشمس والقمر
and the sun and the moon are brought together,
يَقُولُ اُلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ اَلْمَفَرُّ﴿10﴾
يقول الإنسن يومئذ أين المفر
on that Day man will say, “Where is the escape?”
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ﴿11﴾
كلا لا وزر
No indeed! There will be no refuge.
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ اِلْمُسْتَقَرُّ﴿12﴾
إلى ربك يومئذ المستقر
On that Day all will end up before your Lord.
يُنَبَّؤُاْ اُلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذِ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ﴿13﴾
ينبؤا الإنسن يومئذ بما قدم وأخر
On that Day man will be informed of what he has sent forth and left behind.
بَلِ اِلْإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٞ﴿14﴾
بل الإنسن على نفسه بصيرة
In fact, man will be a witness against himself,
وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ﴿15﴾
ولو ألقى معاذيره
despite the excuses he may put forward.
لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْءَانَهُ﴿16﴾
لا تحرك به لسانك لتعجل به إن علينا جمعه وقرءانه
Do not move your tongue [O Prophet] in haste trying to memorize it.
فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَٰهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُ﴿17﴾
فإذا قرأنه فاتبع قرءانه
It is upon Us to make you memorize and recite it.
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ﴿18﴾
ثم إن علينا بيانه
Then when We recite it [through Gabriel], follow its recitation attentively;
كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ اَلْعَاجِلَةَ﴿19﴾
كلا بل تحبون العاجلة
then it is upon Us to explain its meanings.
وَتَذَرُونَ اَلْأٓخِرَةَ﴿20﴾
وتذرون الأخرة
No indeed! You [people] love this fleeting world,
وُجُوهٞ يَوْمَئِذٖ نَّاضِرَةٌ﴿21﴾
وجوه يومئذ ناضرة
and neglect the Hereafter.
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٞ﴿22﴾
إلى ربها ناظرة
On that Day some faces will be bright,
وَوُجُوهٞ يَوْمَئِذِ بَاسِرَةٞ﴿23﴾
ووجوه يومئذ باسرة
looking at their Lord.
تَظُنُّ أَنْ يُّفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٞ﴿24﴾
تظن أن يفعل بها فاقرة
And on that Day, some faces will be gloomy,
كَلَّا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ اِلتَّرَاقِيَ﴿25﴾
كلا إذا بلغت التراقي
knowing that a crushing calamity will befall them.
وَقِيلَ مَن رَّاقٖ﴿26﴾
وقيل من راق
Indeed, when the soul reaches the throat,
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ اُلْفِرَاقُ﴿27﴾
وظن أنه الفراق
and it is said, “Is there any healer?”
وَالْتَفَّتِ اِلسَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴿28﴾
والتفت الساق بالساق
And he realizes that it is time to depart,
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ اِلْمَسَاقُ﴿29﴾
إلى ربك يومئذ المساق
when legs are brought together [in a shroud];
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ﴿30﴾
فلا صدق ولا صلى
on that Day, he will be driven to your Lord.
وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ﴿31﴾
ولكن كذب وتولى
He neither believed nor prayed;
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ يَتَمَطَّىٰ﴿32﴾
ثم ذهب إلى أهله يتمطى
rather he denied and turned away,
أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ﴿33﴾
أولى لك فأولى
then he went to his people, elated with pride,
ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ﴿34﴾
ثم أولى لك فأولى
Woe to you, and woe!
أَيَحْسِبُ اُلْإِنسَٰنُ أَنْ يُّتْرَكَ سُدىً﴿35﴾
أيحسب الإنسن أن يترك سدى
Again, woe to you, and woe!
أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةٗ مِّن مَّنِيّٖ تُمْنَىٰ﴿36﴾
ألم يك نطفة من مني تمنى
Does man think that he will be left neglected?
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةٗ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ﴿37﴾
ثم كان علقة فخلق فسوى
Was he not once a drop of semen emitted,
فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ اُلزَّوْجَيْنِ اِلذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنثَىٰ﴿38﴾
فجعل منه الزوجين الذكر والأنثى
then he became a clinging clot, then He created him and perfected his form,
أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يُّحْـِيَ اَلْمَوْتَىٰ﴿39﴾
أليس ذلك بقدر على أن يحـي الموتى
and made from him both genders, male and female?
