الرُّوم

أَلَٓمِّٓ غُلِبَتِ اِلرُّومُ فِي أَدْنَى اَلْأَرْضِ وَهُم مِّن بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ﴿1﴾

ألم غلبت الروم في أدنى الأرض وهم من بعد غلبهم سيغلبون

Alif Lām Mīm.

فِي بِضْعِ سِنِينَ﴿2﴾

في بضع سنين

The Romans have been defeated

لِلهِ اِلْأَمْرُ مِن قَبْلُ وَمِن بَعْدُ وَيَوْمَئِذٖ يَفْرَحُ اُلْمُؤْمِنُونَ﴿3﴾

لله الأمر من قبل ومن بعد ويومئذ يفرح المؤمنون

in a nearby land, but they will gain victory after their defeat

بِنَصْرِ اِللَّهِ يَنصُرُ مَنْ يَّشَآءُ وَهْوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿4﴾

بنصر الله ينصر من يشاء وهو العزيز الرحيم

within a few years. To Allah belongs the whole matter before and after [the victory]. On that day the believers will rejoice

وَعْدَ اَللَّهِ لَا يُخْلِفُ اُللَّهُ وَعْدَهُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ اَلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿5﴾

وعد الله لا يخلف الله وعده ولكن أكثر الناس لا يعلمون

at the victory granted by Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.

يَعْلَمُونَ ظَٰهِراٗ مِّنَ اَلْحَيَوٰةِ اِلدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ عَنِ اِلْأٓخِرَةِ هُمْ غَٰفِلُونَ﴿6﴾

يعلمون ظهرا من الحيوة الدنيا وهم عن الأخرة هم غفلون

This is the promise of Allah. Allah never breaks His promise, but most people do not know.

أَوَلَمْ يَتَفَكَّرُواْ فِي أَنفُسِهِم مَّا خَلَقَ اَللَّهُ اُلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَأَجَلٖ مُّسَمّىٗ وَإِنَّ كَثِيراٗ مِّنَ اَلنَّاسِ بِلِقَآءِ رَبِّهِمْ لَكَٰفِرُونَ﴿7﴾

أولم يتفكروا في أنفسهم ما خلق الله السموت والأرض وما بينهما إلا بالحق وأجل مسمى وإن كثيرا من الناس بلقاء ربهم لكفرون

They only know the apparent life of this world, but they are heedless of the Hereafter.

أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُواْ فِي اِلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُواْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ اُلذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ كَانُواْ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةٗ وَأَثَارُواْ اُلْأَرْضَ وَعَمَرُوهَا أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا عَمَرُوهَا وَجَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَٰتِ فَمَا كَانَ اَللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَٰكِن كَانُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ﴿8﴾

أولم يسيروا في الأرض فينظروا كيف كان عقبة الذين من قبلهم كانوا أشد منهم قوة وأثاروا الأرض وعمروها أكثر مما عمروها وجاءتهم رسلهم بالبينت فما كان الله ليظلمهم ولكن كانوا أنفسهم يظلمون

Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah did not create the heavens and earth and all that is between them except for a true purpose and for an appointed term, but most people deny the meeting with their Lord.

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ اُلذِينَ أَسَٰٓـُٔواْ اُلسُّوٓأَىٰ أَن كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ اِللَّهِ وَكَانُواْ بِهَا يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ﴿9﴾

ثم كان عقبة الذين أسـوا السوأى أن كذبوا بـايت الله وكانوا بها يستهزءون

Have they not traveled through the land to see how was the end of those who came before them? They were more powerful than them, and they tilled the land and built it more than these people have ever built. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs. It was not Allah Who wronged them, but it was they who wronged themselves.

اَللَّهُ يَبْدَؤُاْ اُلْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ﴿10﴾

الله يبدؤا الخلق ثم يعيده ثم إليه ترجعون

Then the end of the evildoers was utterly evil because they rejected the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them.

وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ اُلسَّاعَةُ يُبْلِسُ اُلْمُجْرِمُونَ﴿11﴾

ويوم تقوم الساعة يبلس المجرمون

Allah brings the creation into being, then He will repeat it, then to Him you will be returned.

وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُم مِّن شُرَكَآئِهِمْ شُفَعَٰٓؤُاْ وَكَانُواْ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ كَٰفِرِينَ﴿12﴾

ولم يكن لهم من شركائهم شفعؤا وكانوا بشركائهم كفرين

On the Day when the Hour begins, the wicked will be in utmost despair.

وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ اُلسَّاعَةُ يَوْمَئِذٖ يَتَفَرَّقُونَ﴿13﴾

ويوم تقوم الساعة يومئذ يتفرقون

They will have no intercessors among their [so-called] partners, rather they will disown those partners.

فَأَمَّا اَلذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ اُلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ فَهُمْ فِي رَوْضَةٖ يُحْبَرُونَ﴿14﴾

فأما الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت فهم في روضة يحبرون

On the Day when the Hour begins, the people will then be separated:

وَأَمَّا اَلذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَلِقَآءِ اِلْأٓخِرَةِ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ فِي اِلْعَذَابِ مُحْضَرُونَ﴿15﴾

وأما الذين كفروا وكذبوا بـايتنا ولقاء الأخرة فأولئك في العذاب محضرون

As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, they will be rejoicing in a garden [of Paradise].

فَسُبْحَٰنَ اَللَّهِ حِينَ تُمْسُونَ وَحِينَ تُصْبِحُونَ﴿16﴾

فسبحن الله حين تمسون وحين تصبحون

And as for those who disbelieved, and rejected Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter, they will be arraigned for punishment.

وَلَهُ اُلْحَمْدُ فِي اِلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَعَشِيّاٗ وَحِينَ تُظْهِرُونَ﴿17﴾

وله الحمد في السموت والأرض وعشيا وحين تظهرون

So glory be to Allah in the evening and in the morning,

يُخْرِجُ اُلْحَيَّ مِنَ اَلْمَيِّتِ وَيُخْرِجُ اُلْمَيِّتَ مِنَ اَلْحَيِّ وَيُحْيِ اِلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا وَكَذَٰلِكَ تُخْرَجُونَ﴿18﴾

يخرج الحي من الميت ويخرج الميت من الحي ويحي الأرض بعد موتها وكذلك تخرجون

and all praise is due to Him in the heavens and earth – and [glorify Him] in the afternoon and at noon.

وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِ أَنْ خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابٖ ثُمَّ إِذَا أَنتُم بَشَرٞ تَنتَشِرُونَ﴿19﴾

ومن ءايته أن خلقكم من تراب ثم إذا أنتم بشر تنتشرون

He brings the living out of the dead and the dead out of the living, and gives life to the earth after its death. This is how you will be brought forth.

وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجاٗ لِّتَسْكُنُواْ إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةٗ وَرَحْمَةً إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوْمٖ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ﴿20﴾

ومن ءايته أن خلق لكم من أنفسكم أزوجا لتسكنوا إليها وجعل بينكم مودة ورحمة إن في ذلك لأيت لقوم يتفكرون

Among His signs is that He created you from dust, then you became human beings spreading [on the earth].

وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِ خَلْقُ اُلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَٰفُ أَلْسِنَتِكُمْ وَأَلْوَٰنِكُمْ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿21﴾

ومن ءايته خلق السموت والأرض واختلف ألسنتكم وألونكم إن في ذلك لأيت للعلمين

And among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves that you may find comfort in them, and He placed between you love and mercy. Indeed, there are signs in this for people who reflect.

وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِ مَنَامُكُم بِاليْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَابْتِغَآؤُكُم مِّن فَضْلِهِ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوْمٖ يَسْمَعُونَ﴿22﴾

ومن ءايته منامكم باليل والنهار وابتغاؤكم من فضله إن في ذلك لأيت لقوم يسمعون

And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and earth, and the diversity of your tongues and colors. Indeed, there are signs in this for those who have knowledge.

وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِ يُرِيكُمُ اُلْبَرْقَ خَوْفاٗ وَطَمَعاٗ وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ اَلسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗ فَيُحْيِ بِهِ اِلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوْمٖ يَعْقِلُونَ﴿23﴾

ومن ءايته يريكم البرق خوفا وطمعا وينزل من السماء ماء فيحي به الأرض بعد موتها إن في ذلك لأيت لقوم يعقلون

And among His signs is your sleep by night and day, and your seeking of His bounty [by day]. Indeed, there are signs in this for people who listen.

وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِ أَن تَقُومَ اَلسَّمَآءُ وَالْأَرْضُ بِأَمْرِهِ ثُمَّ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ دَعْوَةٗ مِّنَ اَلْأَرْضِ إِذَا أَنتُمْ تَخْرُجُونَ﴿24﴾

ومن ءايته أن تقوم السماء والأرض بأمره ثم إذا دعاكم دعوة من الأرض إذا أنتم تخرجون

And among His signs is that He shows you lightning, causing fear and hope, and He sends down water from the sky, reviving therewith the earth after its death. Indeed, there are signs in this for people who understand.

وَلَهُ مَن فِي اِلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ كُلّٞ لَّهُ قَٰنِتُونَ﴿25﴾

وله من في السموت والأرض كل له قنتون

And among His signs is that the sky and earth are maintained by His command. Then when He calls you out of the earth, you will immediately come forth.

وَهْوَ اَلذِي يَبْدَؤُاْ اُلْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ وَهْوَ أَهْوَنُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَهُ اُلْمَثَلُ اُلْأَعْلَىٰ فِي اِلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَهْوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلْحَكِيمُ﴿26﴾

وهو الذي يبدؤا الخلق ثم يعيده وهو أهون عليه وله المثل الأعلى في السموت والأرض وهو العزيز الحكيم

To Him belong all those who are in the heavens and earth; all are devotedly obedient to Him.

ضَرَبَ لَكُم مَّثَلاٗ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ هَل لَّكُم مِّن مَّا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَٰنُكُم مِّن شُرَكَآءَ فِي مَا رَزَقْنَٰكُمْ فَأَنتُمْ فِيهِ سَوَآءٞ تَخَافُونَهُمْ كَخِيفَتِكُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ كَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ اُلْأٓيَٰتِ لِقَوْمٖ يَعْقِلُونَ﴿27﴾

ضرب لكم مثلا من أنفسكم هل لكم من ما ملكت أيمنكم من شركاء في ما رزقنكم فأنتم فيه سواء تخافونهم كخيفتكم أنفسكم كذلك نفصل الأيت لقوم يعقلون

It is He Who originates the creation and then repeats it, which is easier for Him. To Him belong the most sublime attributes in the heavens and earth, and He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

بَلِ اِتَّبَعَ اَلذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ أَهْوَآءَهُم بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٖ فَمَنْ يَّهْدِي مَنْ أَضَلَّ اَللَّهُ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّٰصِرِينَ﴿28﴾

بل اتبع الذين ظلموا أهواءهم بغير علم فمن يهدي من أضل الله وما لهم من نصرين

He makes this comparison for you from your own lives: do you have among your slaves any partners who equally share with you whatever wealth we have given you, so you are fearing them as you fear one another? This is how We make the verses clear for people who understand.

فَأَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ حَنِيفاٗ فِطْرَتَ اَللَّهِ اِلتِي فَطَرَ اَلنَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا لَا تَبْدِيلَ لِخَلْقِ اِللَّهِ ذَٰلِكَ اَلدِّينُ اُلْقَيِّمُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ اَلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿29﴾

فأقم وجهك للدين حنيفا فطرت الله التي فطر الناس عليها لا تبديل لخلق الله ذلك الدين القيم ولكن أكثر الناس لا يعلمون

In fact, the wrongdoers follow their own desires without any knowledge. Who can guide those whom Allah caused to stray? They will have no helpers.

مُنِيبِينَ إِلَيْهِ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَقِيمُواْ اُلصَّلَوٰةَ وَلَا تَكُونُواْ مِنَ اَلْمُشْرِكِينَ﴿30﴾

منيبين إليه واتقوه وأقيموا الصلوة ولا تكونوا من المشركين

Adhere sincerely to the true religion in all uprightness. This is the natural disposition with which Allah has created mankind. There is no change in Allah’s creation. This is the straight religion, but most people do not know.

مِنَ اَلذِينَ فَرَّقُواْ دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُواْ شِيَعاٗ كُلُّ حِزْبِ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ﴿31﴾

من الذين فرقوا دينهم وكانوا شيعا كل حزب بما لديهم فرحون

Turn to Him [in repentance] and fear Him, and establish prayer, and do not be among those who associate partners with Allah,

وَإِذَا مَسَّ اَلنَّاسَ ضُرّٞ دَعَوْاْ رَبَّهُم مُّنِيبِينَ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ إِذَا أَذَاقَهُم مِّنْهُ رَحْمَةً إِذَا فَرِيقٞ مِّنْهُم بِرَبِّهِمْ يُشْرِكُونَ﴿32﴾

وإذا مس الناس ضر دعوا ربهم منيبين إليه ثم إذا أذاقهم منه رحمة إذا فريق منهم بربهم يشركون

those who split up their religion and became sects, each party rejoicing in what it has.

لِيَكْفُرُواْ بِمَا ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ فَتَمَتَّعُواْ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ﴿33﴾

ليكفروا بما ءاتينهم فتمتعوا فسوف تعلمون

When people are afflicted with hardship, they cry out to their Lord, turning to Him penitently. But as soon as He gives them a taste of His mercy, some of them associate partners with their Lord,

أَمْ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَٰناٗ فَهْوَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِمَا كَانُواْ بِهِ يُشْرِكُونَ﴿34﴾

أم أنزلنا عليهم سلطنا فهو يتكلم بما كانوا به يشركون

showing their ingratitude for what We have given them. Then enjoy yourselves for a while, but you will soon come to know.

وَإِذَا أَذَقْنَا اَلنَّاسَ رَحْمَةٗ فَرِحُواْ بِهَا وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةُ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ إِذَا هُمْ يَقْنَطُونَ﴿35﴾

وإذا أذقنا الناس رحمة فرحوا بها وإن تصبهم سيية بما قدمت أيديهم إذا هم يقنطون

Is it that We have sent down to them any authority that speaks in support of their associating partners with Him?

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْاْ أَنَّ اَللَّهَ يَبْسُطُ اُلرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَّشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوْمٖ يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿36﴾

أولم يروا أن الله يبسط الرزق لمن يشاء ويقدر إن في ذلك لأيت لقوم يؤمنون

When We give people a taste of mercy, they rejoice in pride. But when they are afflicted with evil because of what their hands have done, they fall into utter despair.

فَـَٔاتِ ذَا اَلْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُ وَالْمِسْكِينَ وَابْنَ اَلسَّبِيلِ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٞ لِّلذِينَ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَ اَللَّهِ وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ اُلْمُفْلِحُونَ﴿37﴾

فـات ذا القربى حقه والمسكين وابن السبيل ذلك خير للذين يريدون وجه الله وأولئك هم المفلحون

Do they not see that Allah extends provision to whom He wills or restricts it? Indeed, there are signs in this for people who believe.

وَمَا ءَاتَيْتُم مِّن رِّباٗ لِّتُرْبُواْ فِي أَمْوَٰلِ اِلنَّاسِ فَلَا يَرْبُواْ عِندَ اَللَّهِ وَمَا ءَاتَيْتُم مِّن زَكَوٰةٖ تُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَ اَللَّهِ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ اُلْمُضْعِفُونَ﴿38﴾

وما ءاتيتم من ربا لتربوا في أمول الناس فلا يربوا عند الله وما ءاتيتم من زكوة تريدون وجه الله فأولئك هم المضعفون

So give your close relatives their due, and the needy, and the wayfarer. That is best for those who seek Allah’s pleasure, and it is they who will be successful.

اَللَّهُ اُلذِي خَلَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ رَزَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ هَلْ مِن شُرَكَآئِكُم مَّنْ يَّفْعَلُ مِن ذَٰلِكُم مِّن شَيْءٖ سُبْحَٰنَهُ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ﴿39﴾

الله الذي خلقكم ثم رزقكم ثم يميتكم ثم يحييكم هل من شركائكم من يفعل من ذلكم من شيء سبحنه وتعلى عما يشركون

Whatever you lend in usury in order to gain more at the expense of people’s wealth, it will not increase [in reward] with Allah. But whatever you give as charity, seeking Allah’s pleasure – it is they who will have multiple rewards.

ظَهَرَ اَلْفَسَادُ فِي اِلْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِي اِلنَّاسِ لِيُذِيقَهُم بَعْضَ اَلذِي عَمِلُواْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ﴿40﴾

ظهر الفساد في البر والبحر بما كسبت أيدي الناس ليذيقهم بعض الذي عملوا لعلهم يرجعون

It is Allah Who created you, then gave you provision, then He will cause you to die and then will bring you back to life. Is there any of your [so-called] partners who can do anything of this? Glorified and Exalted is He far above what they associate with Him!

قُلْ سِيرُواْ فِي اِلْأَرْضِ فَانظُرُواْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ اُلذِينَ مِن قَبْلُ كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّشْرِكِينَ﴿41﴾

قل سيروا في الأرض فانظروا كيف كان عقبة الذين من قبل كان أكثرهم مشركين

Corruption has appeared on land and sea because of what people’s hands have earned, so that He may cause them to taste the consequence of some of their deeds, so that they may return.

فَأَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ اِلْقَيِّمِ مِن قَبْلِ أَنْ يَّأْتِيَ يَوْمٞ لَّا مَرَدَّ لَهُ مِنَ اَللَّهِ يَوْمَئِذٖ يَصَّدَّعُونَ﴿42﴾

فأقم وجهك للدين القيم من قبل أن يأتي يوم لا مرد له من الله يومئذ يصدعون

Say, “Travel through the land and see how was the end of those who came before – most of them associated partners with Allah.”

مَن كَفَرَ فَعَلَيْهِ كُفْرُهُ وَمَنْ عَمِلَ صَٰلِحاٗ فَلِأَنفُسِهِمْ يَمْهَدُونَ﴿43﴾

من كفر فعليه كفره ومن عمل صلحا فلأنفسهم يمهدون

Adhere sincerely to the true religion before there comes a Day that cannot be averted from Allah. On that Day people will be divided.

لِيَجْزِيَ اَلذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ اُلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ مِن فَضْلِهِ إِنَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ اُلْكَٰفِرِينَ﴿44﴾

ليجزي الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت من فضله إنه لا يحب الكفرين

Whoever disbelieves will bear [the burden of] his disbelief, and whoever does righteous deeds, they are preparing for themselves [a place in Paradise],

وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِ أَنْ يُّرْسِلَ اَلرِّيَاحَ مُبَشِّرَٰتٖ وَلِيُذِيقَكُم مِّن رَّحْمَتِهِ وَلِتَجْرِيَ اَلْفُلْكُ بِأَمْرِهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُواْ مِن فَضْلِهِ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ﴿45﴾

ومن ءايته أن يرسل الرياح مبشرت وليذيقكم من رحمته ولتجري الفلك بأمره ولتبتغوا من فضله ولعلكم تشكرون

so that He may reward those who believe and do righteous deeds out of His grace. Indeed, He does not like the disbelievers.

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ رُسُلاً إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِمْ فَجَآءُوهُم بِالْبَيِّنَٰتِ فَانتَقَمْنَا مِنَ اَلذِينَ أَجْرَمُواْ وَكَانَ حَقّاً عَلَيْنَا نَصْرُ اُلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿46﴾

ولقد أرسلنا من قبلك رسلا إلى قومهم فجاءوهم بالبينت فانتقمنا من الذين أجرموا وكان حقا علينا نصر المؤمنين

Among His signs is that He sends the winds as harbingers [of rain], so that He may give you a taste of His mercy, and that the ships may sail by His command, and that you may seek His bounty, and so that you may be grateful.

اَللَّهُ اُلذِي يُرْسِلُ اُلرِّيَٰحَ فَتُثِيرُ سَحَاباٗ فَيَبْسُطُهُ فِي اِلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ يَشَآءُ وَيَجْعَلُهُ كِسَفاٗ فَتَرَى اَلْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلَٰلِهِ فَإِذَا أَصَابَ بِهِ مَنْ يَّشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ إِذَا هُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ﴿47﴾

الله الذي يرسل الريح فتثير سحابا فيبسطه في السماء كيف يشاء ويجعله كسفا فترى الودق يخرج من خلله فإذا أصاب به من يشاء من عباده إذا هم يستبشرون

Indeed, We sent before you messengers to their people, and they came to them with clear signs. Then We took vengeance on those who persisted in wickedness, for it is incumbent upon Us to help the believers.

وَإِن كَانُواْ مِن قَبْلِ أَنْ يُّنَزَّلَ عَلَيْهِم مِّن قَبْلِهِ لَمُبْلِسِينَ﴿48﴾

وإن كانوا من قبل أن ينزل عليهم من قبله لمبلسين

It is Allah Who sends the winds that stir up clouds, then He spreads them in the sky as He wills, and He splits them into different fragments, and then you see the rain pouring down from their midst. Then as soon as He makes it fall upon whoever He wills of His slaves, they rejoice,

فَانظُرْ إِلَىٰ أَثَرِ رَحْمَتِ اِللَّهِ كَيْفَ يُحْيِ اِلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمُحْيِ اِلْمَوْتَىٰ وَهْوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٖ قَدِيرٞ﴿49﴾

فانظر إلى أثر رحمت الله كيف يحي الأرض بعد موتها إن ذلك لمحي الموتى وهو على كل شيء قدير

although they had lost all hope before it was sent down to them.

وَلَئِنْ أَرْسَلْنَا رِيحاٗ فَرَأَوْهُ مُصْفَرّاٗ لَّظَلُّواْ مِن بَعْدِهِ يَكْفُرُونَ﴿50﴾

ولئن أرسلنا ريحا فرأوه مصفرا لظلوا من بعده يكفرون

See then the effects of Allah’s mercy, how He revives the earth after its death. Indeed, it is He Who will raise the dead, and He is Most Capable of all things.

فَإِنَّكَ لَا تُسْمِعُ اُلْمَوْتَىٰ وَلَا تُسْمِعُ اُلصُّمَّ اَلدُّعَآءَ اذَا وَلَّوْاْ مُدْبِرِينَ﴿51﴾

فإنك لا تسمع الموتى ولا تسمع الصم الدعاء اذا ولوا مدبرين

But if We send a [harmful] wind and they see [their crops] turning yellow, they become ungrateful thereafter.

وَمَا أَنتَ بِهَٰدِ اِلْعُمْيِ عَن ضَلَٰلَتِهِمْ إِن تُسْمِعُ إِلَّا مَنْ يُّؤْمِنُ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا فَهُم مُّسْلِمُونَ﴿52﴾

وما أنت بهد العمي عن ضللتهم إن تسمع إلا من يؤمن بـايتنا فهم مسلمون

You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs and walk away.

اَللَّهُ اُلذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن ضُعْفٖ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ ضُعْفٖ قُوَّةٗ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ قُوَّةٖ ضُعْفاٗ وَشَيْبَةٗ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ وَهْوَ اَلْعَلِيمُ اُلْقَدِيرُ﴿53﴾

الله الذي خلقكم من ضعف ثم جعل من بعد ضعف قوة ثم جعل من بعد قوة ضعفا وشيبة يخلق ما يشاء وهو العليم القدير

Nor can you guide the blind out of their misguidance. You cannot make anyone hear except those who believe in Our verses, for they are ready to submit [to Allah].

وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ اُلسَّاعَةُ يُقْسِمُ اُلْمُجْرِمُونَ مَا لَبِثُواْ غَيْرَ سَاعَةٖ كَذَٰلِكَ كَانُواْ يُؤْفَكُونَ﴿54﴾

ويوم تقوم الساعة يقسم المجرمون ما لبثوا غير ساعة كذلك كانوا يؤفكون

It is Allah Who created you in a state of weakness, then after weakness He gave you strength, then after strength He made you weak and old. He creates what He wills, and He is the All-Knowing, the Most Capable.

وَقَالَ اَلذِينَ أُوتُواْ اُلْعِلْمَ وَالْإِيمَٰنَ لَقَدْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِي كِتَٰبِ اِللَّهِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ اِلْبَعْثِ فَهَٰذَا يَوْمُ اُلْبَعْثِ وَلَٰكِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ﴿55﴾

وقال الذين أوتوا العلم والإيمن لقد لبثتم في كتب الله إلى يوم البعث فهذا يوم البعث ولكنكم كنتم لا تعلمون

On the Day when the Hour begins, the wicked will swear that they had not stayed [in this world] more than an hour. This is how they were deluded [from the truth].

فَيَوْمَئِذٖ لَّا تَنفَعُ اُلذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ﴿56﴾

فيومئذ لا تنفع الذين ظلموا معذرتهم ولا هم يستعتبون

As for those who were given knowledge and faith will say, “You did stay, according to Allah’s decree, until the Day of Resurrection. This is the Day of Resurrection, but you did not know.”

وَلَقَدْ ضَرَبْنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِي هَٰذَا اَلْقُرْءَانِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٖ وَلَئِن جِئْتَهُم بِـَٔايَةٖ لَّيَقُولَنَّ اَلذِينَ كَفَرُواْ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا مُبْطِلُونَ﴿57﴾

ولقد ضربنا للناس في هذا القرءان من كل مثل ولئن جيتهم بـاية ليقولن الذين كفروا إن أنتم إلا مبطلون

On that Day, no excuse will benefit the wrongdoers, nor will they be allowed to make amends.

كَذَٰلِكَ يَطْبَعُ اُللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ اِلذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿58﴾

كذلك يطبع الله على قلوب الذين لا يعلمون

We have presented in this Qur’an every kind of example for mankind. But no matter what sign you bring them, the disbelievers will surely say, “You follow nothing but falsehood.”

فَاصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ اَللَّهِ حَقّٞ وَلَا يَسْتَخِفَّنَّكَ اَلذِينَ لَا يُوقِنُونَ﴿59﴾

فاصبر إن وعد الله حق ولا يستخفنك الذين لا يوقنون

This is how Allah seals the hearts of those who have no knowledge.
