صَٓ وَالْقُرْءَانِ ذِي اِلذِّكْرِ بَلِ اِلذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِي عِزَّةٖ وَشِقَاقٖ﴿1﴾
ص والقرءان ذي الذكر بل الذين كفروا في عزة وشقاق
Sād. By the Qur’an, full of reminder,
كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٖ فَنَادَواْ وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٖ﴿2﴾
كم أهلكنا من قبلهم من قرن فنادوا ولات حين مناص
yet those who disbelieve are in arrogance and dissension.
وَعَجِبُواْ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٞ مِّنْهُمْ وَقَالَ اَلْكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا سَٰحِرٞ كَذَّابٌ﴿3﴾
وعجبوا أن جاءهم منذر منهم وقال الكفرون هذا سحر كذاب
How many generations have We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was too late for deliverance.
أَجَعَلَ اَلْأٓلِهَةَ إِلَٰهاٗ وَٰحِداً إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَابٞ﴿4﴾
أجعل الألهة إلها وحدا إن هذا لشيء عجاب
They wonder that a warner has come to them from among themselves, and the disbelievers say, “This is a magician and a liar!
وَانطَلَقَ اَلْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ اِمْشُواْ وَاصْبِرُواْ عَلَىٰ ءَالِهَتِكُمْ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٞ يُرَادُ﴿5﴾
وانطلق الملأ منهم أن امشوا واصبروا على ءالهتكم إن هذا لشيء يراد
Has he made all gods into one God? Indeed, this is something strange!”
مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِي اِلْمِلَّةِ اِلْأٓخِرَةِ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا اَخْتِلَٰقٌ﴿6﴾
ما سمعنا بهذا في الملة الأخرة إن هذا إلا اختلق
The leaders among them departed, saying, “Carry on as you are, and stay faithful to your gods. Indeed, there is a motive behind it.
أَٰنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ اِلذِّكْرُ مِن بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكّٖ مِّن ذِكْرِي بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِ﴿7﴾
أنزل عليه الذكر من بيننا بل هم في شك من ذكري بل لما يذوقوا عذاب
We have not heard of this in the last religion. This is nothing but a fabrication.
أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ اَلْعَزِيزِ اِلْوَهَّابِ﴿8﴾
أم عندهم خزائن رحمة ربك العزيز الوهاب
Has the Reminder been sent down to him from among us?” Rather, they are in doubt about My Reminder, for they have not yet tasted My punishment.
أَمْ لَهُم مُّلْكُ اُلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَلْيَرْتَقُواْ فِي اِلْأَسْبَٰبِ﴿9﴾
أم لهم ملك السموت والأرض وما بينهما فليرتقوا في الأسبب
Or do they possess the treasuries of the mercy of your Lord, the All-Mighty, the Bestower?
جُندٞ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٞ مِّنَ اَلْأَحْزَابِ﴿10﴾
جند ما هنالك مهزوم من الأحزاب
Or do they have the dominion of the heavens and earth and all that is between them? Then let them ascend by any means.
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٖ وَعَادٞ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو اُلْأَوْتَادِ﴿11﴾
كذبت قبلهم قوم نوح وعاد وفرعون ذو الأوتاد
This is only a small army among several armies that will soon be defeated.
وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٖ وَأَصْحَٰبُ لَيْكَةَ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ اَلْأَحْزَابُ﴿12﴾
وثمود وقوم لوط وأصحب ليكة أولئك الأحزاب
The people of Noah rejected [their messengers] before them, as did ‘Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes;
إِن كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ اَلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ﴿13﴾
إن كل إلا كذب الرسل فحق عقاب
and Thamūd and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the Forest – such were the [denier] parties.
وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَٰؤُلَآ إِلَّا صَيْحَةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٖ﴿14﴾
وما ينظر هؤلا إلا صيحة وحدة ما لها من فواق
Each of them rejected their messenger, therefore My punishment became inevitable.
وَقَالُواْ رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ اِلْحِسَابِ﴿15﴾
وقالوا ربنا عجل لنا قطنا قبل يوم الحساب
They are only waiting for a single Blast that cannot be stopped.
اِصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوُدَ ذَا اَلْأَيْدِ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ﴿16﴾
اصبر على ما يقولون واذكر عبدنا داود ذا الأيد إنه أواب
They say, “Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of punishment] before the Day of Reckoning.”
إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا اَلْجِبَالَ مَعَهُ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِالْعَشِيِّ وَالْإِشْرَاقِ﴿17﴾
إنا سخرنا الجبال معه يسبحن بالعشي والإشراق
Bear with patience whatever they say, and remember Our slave David, the man of strength who constantly turned [to Allah].
وَالطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةٗ كُلّٞ لَّهُ أَوَّابٞ﴿18﴾
والطير محشورة كل له أواب
We subjected the mountains to join him in glorifying Allah in the evening and the morning,
وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُ وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ اُلْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ اَلْخِطَابِ﴿19﴾
وشددنا ملكه وءاتينه الحكمة وفصل الخطاب
and the birds, in their flocks; they all would echo his praise.
وَهَلْ أَتَيٰكَ نَبَؤُاْ اُلْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُواْ اُلْمِحْرَابَ﴿20﴾
وهل أتيك نبؤا الخصم إذ تسوروا المحراب
We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and sound judgment [and speech].
إِذْ دَخَلُواْ عَلَىٰ دَاوُدَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْ قَالُواْ لَا تَخَفْ خَصْمَٰنِ بَغَىٰ بَعْضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٖ فَاحْكُم بَيْنَنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تُشْطِطْ وَاهْدِنَا إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ اِلصِّرَٰطِ﴿21﴾
إذ دخلوا على داود ففزع منهم قالوا لا تخف خصمن بغى بعضنا على بعض فاحكم بيننا بالحق ولا تشطط واهدنا إلى سواء الصرط
Has there come to you the story of the adversaries, when they climbed the wall of his chamber?
إِنَّ هَٰذَا أَخِي لَهُ تِسْعٞ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةٗ وَلِي نَعْجَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِي فِي اِلْخِطَابِ﴿22﴾
إن هذا أخي له تسع وتسعون نعجة ولي نعجة وحدة فقال أكفلنيها وعزني في الخطاب
When they entered upon David, he was frightened. They said, “Do not be afraid. We are two adversaries: one of us has wronged the other, so judge between us with fairness, and do not be unjust, and guide us to the straight path.
قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِ وَإِنَّ كَثِيراٗ مِّنَ اَلْخُلَطَآءِ لَيَبْغِي بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا اَلذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ اُلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَقَلِيلٞ مَّا هُمْ وَظَنَّ دَاوُدُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّٰهُ فَاسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعاٗ وَأَنَابَ﴿23﴾
قال لقد ظلمك بسؤال نعجتك إلى نعاجه وإن كثيرا من الخلطاء ليبغي بعضهم على بعض إلا الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت وقليل ما هم وظن داود أنما فتنه فاستغفر ربه وخر راكعا وأناب
This is my brother. He has ninety-nine ewes while I have only one. He said, ‘Give her into my charge,’ and he overpowered me in speech.”
فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُ ذَٰلِكَ وَإِنَّ لَهُ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٖ﴿24﴾
فغفرنا له ذلك وإن له عندنا لزلفى وحسن مـاب
David said, “He has certainly wronged you by demanding that your ewe be added to his flock. Indeed, many partners oppress one another, except those who believe and do righteous deeds – and how few they are.” Then David realized that We were only testing him, so he asked his Lord for forgiveness, fell down bowing, and turned to Him in repentance.
يَٰدَاوُدُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَٰكَ خَلِيفَةٗ فِي اِلْأَرْضِ فَاحْكُم بَيْنَ اَلنَّاسِ بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ اِلْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اِللَّهِ إِنَّ اَلذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ اِللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٞ شَدِيدُ بِمَا نَسُواْ يَوْمَ اَلْحِسَابِ﴿25﴾
يداود إنا جعلنك خليفة في الأرض فاحكم بين الناس بالحق ولا تتبع الهوى فيضلك عن سبيل الله إن الذين يضلون عن سبيل الله لهم عذاب شديد بما نسوا يوم الحساب
So We forgave that for him, and he certainly has a place of nearness to Us and a good place of return.
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا اَلسَّمَآءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَٰطِلاٗ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ اُلذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فَوَيْلٞ لِّلذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنَ اَلنَّارِ﴿26﴾
وما خلقنا السماء والأرض وما بينهما بطلا ذلك ظن الذين كفروا فويل للذين كفروا من النار
“O David, We have made you a ruler on earth, so judge between people with justice, and do not follow your desires lest they lead you astray from Allah’s way. Those who go astray from Allah’s way will have a severe punishment because of their forgetting the Day of Reckoning.”
أَمْ نَجْعَلُ اُلذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ اُلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ كَالْمُفْسِدِينَ فِي اِلْأَرْضِ أَمْ نَجْعَلُ اُلْمُتَّقِينَ كَالْفُجَّارِ﴿27﴾
أم نجعل الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت كالمفسدين في الأرض أم نجعل المتقين كالفجار
We have not created the heavens and earth and all that is between them in vain. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve. So woe to the disbelievers from the Fire!
كِتَٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَٰرَكٞ لِّيَدَّبَّرُواْ ءَايَٰتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُواْ اُلْأَلْبَٰبِ﴿28﴾
كتب أنزلنه إليك مبرك ليدبروا ءايته وليتذكر أولوا الألبب
Should We make those who believe and do righteous deeds equal to those who spread corruption on earth? Or should We make the righteous equal to the wicked?
وَوَهَبْنَا لِدَاوُدَ سُلَيْمَٰنَ نِعْمَ اَلْعَبْدُ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ﴿29﴾
ووهبنا لداود سليمن نعم العبد إنه أواب
This is a blessed Book that We have sent down to you [O Prophet] so that they may reflect upon its verses, and so that people of understanding may take heed.
إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْعَشِيِّ اِلصَّٰفِنَٰتُ اُلْجِيَادُ﴿30﴾
إذ عرض عليه بالعشي الصفنت الجياد
And to David We gave Solomon, an excellent and faithful slave who constantly turned [to Us].
فَقَالَ إِنِّيَ أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ اَلْخَيْرِ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّي حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ﴿31﴾
فقال إني أحببت حب الخير عن ذكر ربي حتى توارت بالحجاب
One evening, well-trained and swift horses of noble breed were presented before him.
رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّ فَطَفِقَ مَسْحاَ بِالسُّوقِ وَالْأَعْنَاقِ﴿32﴾
ردوها علي فطفق مسحا بالسوق والأعناق
He then said, “I gave preference to the love of fine things over the remembrance of my Lord,” until the sun went out of sight.
وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا سُلَيْمَٰنَ وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلَىٰ كُرْسِيِّهِ جَسَداٗ ثُمَّ أَنَابَ﴿33﴾
ولقد فتنا سليمن وألقينا على كرسيه جسدا ثم أناب
[He ordered], “Bring them back to me,” and he began striking [their] shanks and necks.
قَالَ رَبِّ اِغْفِرْ لِي وَهَبْ لِي مُلْكاٗ لَّا يَنبَغِي لِأَحَدٖ مِّن بَعْدِيَ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ اَلْوَهَّابُ﴿34﴾
قال رب اغفر لي وهب لي ملكا لا ينبغي لأحد من بعدي إنك أنت الوهاب
Indeed, We tested Solomon and cast upon his throne a body, then he turned [to Allah].
فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ اُلرِّيحَ تَجْرِي بِأَمْرِهِ رُخَآءً حَيْثُ أَصَابَ﴿35﴾
فسخرنا له الريح تجري بأمره رخاء حيث أصاب
He said, “My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom, the like of which will never be granted to anyone after me. You are indeed the Bestower.”
وَالشَّيَٰطِينَ كُلَّ بَنَّآءٖ وَغَوَّاصٖ﴿36﴾
والشيطين كل بناء وغواص
So We subjected to him the wind blowing gently by his command to wherever he wished,
وَءَاخَرِينَ مُقَرَّنِينَ فِي اِلْأَصْفَادِ﴿37﴾
وءاخرين مقرنين في الأصفاد
And [We subjected to him] the devils, all kinds of builders and divers,
هَٰذَا عَطَآؤُنَا فَامْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٖ﴿38﴾
هذا عطاؤنا فامنن أو أمسك بغير حساب
and others bound in chains.
وَإِنَّ لَهُ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٖ﴿39﴾
وإن له عندنا لزلفى وحسن مـاب
[We said], “This is Our gift, so give freely or withhold, without account.”
وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا أَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ اَلشَّيْطَٰنُ بِنُصْبٖ وَعَذَابٍ﴿40﴾
واذكر عبدنا أيوب إذ نادى ربه أني مسني الشيطن بنصب وعذاب
And he certainly has a status of nearness to Us and a good place of return.
اُرْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ هَٰذَا مُغْتَسَلُ بَارِدٞ وَشَرَابٞ﴿41﴾
اركض برجلك هذا مغتسل بارد وشراب
And remember Our slave Job, when he cried out to his Lord, “Indeed, Satan has afflicted me with hardship and pain.”
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ أَهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةٗ مِّنَّا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُوْلِي اِلْأَلْبَٰبِ﴿42﴾
ووهبنا له أهله ومثلهم معهم رحمة منا وذكرى لأولي الألبب
[Allah said], “Stamp [the ground] with your foot: here is a cool spring for bathing and drinking.”
وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثاٗ فَاضْرِب بِّهِ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَٰهُ صَابِراٗ نِّعْمَ اَلْعَبْدُ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٞ﴿43﴾
وخذ بيدك ضغثا فاضرب به ولا تحنث إنا وجدنه صابرا نعم العبد إنه أواب
And We restored his family to him and the like of them as a mercy from Us and as a reminder for people of understanding.
وَاذْكُرْ عِبَٰدَنَا إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسْحَٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُوْلِي اِلْأَيْدِي وَالْأَبْصَٰرِ﴿44﴾
واذكر عبدنا إبرهيم وإسحق ويعقوب أولي الأيدي والأبصر
[We said], “Take a bunch of grass in your hand, and strike [your wife] with it, and do not break your oath.” We truly found him patient – an excellent and faithful slave he was. He constantly turned [to Us].
إِنَّا أَخْلَصْنَٰهُم بِخَالِصَةِ ذِكْرَى اَلدَّارِ﴿45﴾
إنا أخلصنهم بخالصة ذكرى الدار
Remember Our slaves: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – men of strength and insight.
وَإِنَّهُمْ عِندَنَا لَمِنَ اَلْمُصْطَفَيْنَ اَلْأَخْيَارِ﴿46﴾
وإنهم عندنا لمن المصطفين الأخيار
We chose them exclusively for the remembrance of the Final Home.
وَاذْكُرْ إِسْمَٰعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَذَا اَلْكِفْلِ وَكُلّٞ مِّنَ اَلْأَخْيَارِ﴿47﴾
واذكر إسمعيل واليسع وذا الكفل وكل من الأخيار
Indeed, they are before us among the chosen and best ones.
هَٰذَا ذِكْرٞ وَإِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ لَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٖ﴿48﴾
هذا ذكر وإن للمتقين لحسن مـاب
Also remember Ishmael, Elisha, and Dhul-Kifl – all were among the best.
جَنَّٰتِ عَدْنٖ مُّفَتَّحَةٗ لَّهُمُ اُلْأَبْوَابُ﴿49﴾
جنت عدن مفتحة لهم الأبواب
This is a reminder. And the righteous will surely have a good return:
مُتَّكِـِٕينَ فِيهَا يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِفَٰكِهَةٖ كَثِيرَةٖ وَشَرَابٖ﴿50﴾
متكـين فيها يدعون فيها بفكهة كثيرة وشراب
Gardens of Eternity, with gates wide open for them.
وَعِندَهُمْ قَٰصِرَٰتُ اُلطَّرْفِ أَتْرَابٌ﴿51﴾
وعندهم قصرت الطرف أتراب
They will recline therein, calling for abundant fruit and drink.
هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِيَوْمِ اِلْحِسَابِ﴿52﴾
هذا ما توعدون ليوم الحساب
And they will have maidens of modest gaze and equal age.
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَرِزْقُنَا مَا لَهُ مِن نَّفَادٍ﴿53﴾
إن هذا لرزقنا ما له من نفاد
This is what you are promised for the Day of Account.
هَٰذَا وَإِنَّ لِلطَّٰغِينَ لَشَرَّ مَـَٔابٖ﴿54﴾
هذا وإن للطغين لشر مـاب
Indeed, this is Our provision [for the righteous] that will never cease.
جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ اَلْمِهَادُ﴿55﴾
جهنم يصلونها فبيس المهاد
This [is so]. But the transgressors will surely have the worst return:
هَٰذَا فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ حَمِيمٞ وَغَسَاقٞ﴿56﴾
هذا فليذوقوه حميم وغساق
Hell, where they will burn. What a terrible resting place!
وَءَاخَرُ مِن شَكْلِهِ أَزْوَٰجٌ﴿57﴾
وءاخر من شكله أزوج
Let them taste this: scalding water and pus,
هَٰذَا فَوْجٞ مُّقْتَحِمٞ مَّعَكُمْ لَا مَرْحَباَ بِهِمْ إِنَّهُمْ صَالُواْ اُلنَّارِ﴿58﴾
هذا فوج مقتحم معكم لا مرحبا بهم إنهم صالوا النار
and other similar [torments] of various kinds.
قَالُواْ بَلْ أَنتُمْ لَا مَرْحَباَ بِكُمْ أَنتُمْ قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ لَنَا فَبِئْسَ اَلْقَرَارُ﴿59﴾
قالوا بل أنتم لا مرحبا بكم أنتم قدمتموه لنا فبيس القرار
[The misleaders will say], “Here is a crowd of people being thrown in with you. They are not welcome! They will surely burn in the Fire.”
قَالُواْ رَبَّنَا مَن قَدَّمَ لَنَا هَٰذَا فَزِدْهُ عَذَاباٗ ضِعْفاٗ فِي اِلنَّارِ﴿60﴾
قالوا ربنا من قدم لنا هذا فزده عذابا ضعفا في النار
They will say, “No! You are not welcome! You brought this on us. What a terrible place to settle in!”
وَقَالُواْ مَا لَنَا لَا نَرَىٰ رِجَالاٗ كُنَّا نَعُدُّهُم مِّنَ اَلْأَشْرَارِ﴿61﴾
وقالوا ما لنا لا نرى رجالا كنا نعدهم من الأشرار
They will say, “Our Lord, whoever brought this on us, give him double punishment in the Fire.”
أَتَّخَذْنَٰهُمْ سُخْرِيّاً أَمْ زَاغَتْ عَنْهُمُ اُلْأَبْصَٰرُ﴿62﴾
أتخذنهم سخريا أم زاغت عنهم الأبصر
They will say, “Why do we not see those whom we considered to be among the wicked?
إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَحَقّٞ تَخَاصُمُ أَهْلِ اِلنَّارِ﴿63﴾
إن ذلك لحق تخاصم أهل النار
Is it that we mistakenly made fun of them, or do our eyes fail to see them [in the Fire]?”
قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا مُنذِرٞ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ إِلَّا اَللَّهُ اُلْوَٰحِدُ اُلْقَهَّارُ﴿64﴾
قل إنما أنا منذر وما من إله إلا الله الوحد القهار
This is certainly true that the people of the Fire will dispute among themselves.
رَبُّ اُلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلْغَفَّٰرُ﴿65﴾
رب السموت والأرض وما بينهما العزيز الغفر
Say [O Prophet], “I am only a warner, and none has the right to be worshiped except Allah, the One, the Subjugator,
قُلْ هُوَ نَبَؤٌاْ عَظِيمٌ﴿66﴾
قل هو نبؤا عظيم
Lord of the heavens and earth and all that is between them, the All-Mighty, Most Forgiving.”
أَنتُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضُونَ﴿67﴾
أنتم عنه معرضون
Say, “This [Qur’an] is of momentous news
مَا كَانَ لِي مِنْ عِلْمِ بِالْمَلَإِ اِلْأَعْلَىٰ إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ﴿68﴾
ما كان لي من علم بالملإ الأعلى إذ يختصمون
from which you are turning away.”
إِنْ يُّوحَىٰ إِلَيَّ إِلَّا أَنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٌ﴿69﴾
إن يوحى إلي إلا أنما أنا نذير مبين
[And say], “I had no knowledge of the highest assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [about Adam].
إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّي خَٰلِقُ بَشَراٗ مِّن طِينٖ﴿70﴾
إذ قال ربك للملئكة إني خلق بشرا من طين
I have only received revelation in order to give a clear warning.”
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِي فَقَعُواْ لَهُ سَٰجِدِينَ﴿71﴾
فإذا سويته ونفخت فيه من روحي فقعوا له سجدين
[Remember] when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to create a human being from clay.
فَسَجَدَ اَلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ﴿72﴾
فسجد الملئكة كلهم أجمعون
When I completed his creation and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down in prostration to him.”
إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ اَسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ اَلْكَٰفِرِينَ﴿73﴾
إلا إبليس استكبر وكان من الكفرين
Then the angels fell down in prostration all together,
قَالَ يَٰإِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَيَّ أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ اَلْعَالِينَ﴿74﴾
قال يإبليس ما منعك أن تسجد لما خلقت بيدي أستكبرت أم كنت من العالين
except Iblīs, who was arrogant and became one of the disbelievers.
قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٞ مِّنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِي مِن نَّارٖ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِن طِينٖ﴿75﴾
قال أنا خير منه خلقتني من نار وخلقته من طين
[Allah] said, “O Iblīs, what prevented you from prostrating to whom I created with My two Hands? Did you just become proud or have you always been arrogant?”
قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٞ﴿76﴾
قال فاخرج منها فإنك رجيم
He said, “I am better than him: You created me from fire and created him from clay.”
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِيَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ اِلدِّينِ﴿77﴾
وإن عليك لعنتي إلى يوم الدين
[Allah] said, “Then get out of here, for you are accursed,
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِي إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ﴿78﴾
قال رب فأنظرني إلى يوم يبعثون
and My curse will be upon you until the Day of Judgment.”
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ اَلْمُنظَرِينَ﴿79﴾
قال فإنك من المنظرين
He said, “My Lord, then give me respite until the Day of their resurrection.”
إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ اِلْوَقْتِ اِلْمَعْلُومِ﴿80﴾
إلى يوم الوقت المعلوم
Allah said, “You are given respite,
قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿81﴾
قال فبعزتك لأغوينهم أجمعين
until the Day of the appointed time.”
إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ اُلْمُخْلَصِينَ﴿82﴾
إلا عبادك منهم المخلصين
Iblīs said, “By Your Glory, I will surely mislead them all,
قَالَ فَالْحَقَّ وَالْحَقَّ أَقُولُ لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكَ وَمِمَّن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿83﴾
قال فالحق والحق أقول لأملأن جهنم منك وممن تبعك منهم أجمعين
except for Your chosen slaves among them.”
قُلْ مَا أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٖ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ اَلْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ﴿84﴾
قل ما أسـلكم عليه من أجر وما أنا من المتكلفين
Allah said, “Such is the truth – and I only say the truth –
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٞ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿85﴾
إن هو إلا ذكر للعلمين
that I will certainly fill Hell with you and those of them who follow you all together.”
وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُ بَعْدَ حِينِ﴿86﴾
ولتعلمن نبأه بعد حين
Say [O Prophet], “I do not ask you for any reward for it, nor do I pretend to be what I am not.
