وَالصَّٰٓفَّٰتِ صَفّاٗ﴿1﴾
والصفت صفا
By those [angels] lined up in rows,
فَالزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجْراٗ﴿2﴾
فالزجرت زجرا
and those who drive [the clouds],
فَالتَّٰلِيَٰتِ ذِكْراً﴿3﴾
فالتليت ذكرا
and those who recite Allah’s words,
إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَٰحِدٞ﴿4﴾
إن إلهكم لوحد
indeed, your God is One,
رَّبُّ اُلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ اُلْمَشَٰرِقِ﴿5﴾
رب السموت والأرض وما بينهما ورب المشرق
Lord of the heavens and earth and all that is between them, and Lord of the points of sunrise.
إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا اَلسَّمَآءَ اَلدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةِ اِلْكَوَاكِبِ﴿6﴾
إنا زينا السماء الدنيا بزينة الكواكب
We have adorned the sky with the beauty of the stars,
وَحِفْظاٗ مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَٰنٖ مَّارِدٖ﴿7﴾
وحفظا من كل شيطن مارد
and for safeguarding it against every rebellious devil,
لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ إِلَى اَلْمَلَإِ اِلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٖ﴿8﴾
لا يسمعون إلى الملإ الأعلى ويقذفون من كل جانب
so that they cannot eavesdrop on the highest assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side
دُحُوراٗ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٞ وَاصِبٌ﴿9﴾
دحورا ولهم عذاب واصب
to repel them; and for them there will be a perpetual punishment,
إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ اَلْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٞ ثَاقِبٞ﴿10﴾
إلا من خطف الخطفة فأتبعه شهاب ثاقب
except who stealthily snatches away some words, he will be pursued by a piercing flame.
فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقاً أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَا إِنَّا خَلَقْنَٰهُم مِّن طِينٖ لَّٰزِبِ﴿11﴾
فاستفتهم أهم أشد خلقا أم من خلقنا إنا خلقنهم من طين لزب
So ask them, “Are they more difficult to create or other things We created? We created them from sticky clay.
بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ﴿12﴾
بل عجبت ويسخرون
Rather you are astonished, while they ridicule it,
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُواْ لَا يَذْكُرُونَ﴿13﴾
وإذا ذكروا لا يذكرون
and when they are reminded, they pay no heed,
وَإِذَا رَأَوْاْ ءَايَةٗ يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ﴿14﴾
وإذا رأوا ءاية يستسخرون
and when they see a sign, they ridicule it,
وَقَالُواْ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٞ مُّبِينٌ﴿15﴾
وقالوا إن هذا إلا سحر مبين
and they say, “This is nothing but clear magic.
أَٰذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَاباٗ وَعِظَٰماً إِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ﴿16﴾
أذا متنا وكنا ترابا وعظما إنا لمبعوثون
Is it that when we are dead and become dust and bones, will we really be raised up again,
أَوْءَابَآؤُنَا اَلْأَوَّلُونَ﴿17﴾
أوءاباؤنا الأولون
and our forefathers too?”
قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَٰخِرُونَ﴿18﴾
قل نعم وأنتم دخرون
Say, “Yes, and you will be disgraced.”
فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ﴿19﴾
فإنما هي زجرة وحدة فإذا هم ينظرون
It will only be a single Blast, and at once they will be looking around.
وَقَالُواْ يَٰوَيْلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوْمُ اُلدِّينِ﴿20﴾
وقالوا يويلنا هذا يوم الدين
They will say, “Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!”
هَٰذَا يَوْمُ اُلْفَصْلِ اِلذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ﴿21﴾
هذا يوم الفصل الذي كنتم به تكذبون
[They will be told], “This is the Day of Decision that you used to deny.”
اَحْشُرُواْ اُلذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُواْ يَعْبُدُونَ﴿22﴾
احشروا الذين ظلموا وأزوجهم وما كانوا يعبدون
[The angels will be told], “Gather all those who did wrong and their fellows, and whatever they used to worship
مِن دُونِ اِللَّهِ فَاهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ اِلْجَحِيمِ﴿23﴾
من دون الله فاهدوهم إلى صرط الجحيم
besides Allah, and lead them to the way of Hell,
وَقِفُوهُمْ إِنَّهُم مَّسْـُٔولُونَ﴿24﴾
وقفوهم إنهم مسـولون
and stop them, for they are to be questioned.”
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ﴿25﴾
ما لكم لا تناصرون
[They will be asked], “What is the matter with you, that you no longer help one another?”
بَلْ هُمُ اُلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ﴿26﴾
بل هم اليوم مستسلمون
Rather on that Day they will surrender completely.
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٖ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ﴿27﴾
وأقبل بعضهم على بعض يتساءلون
They will turn to one another, reproaching one another.
قَالُواْ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ اِلْيَمِينِ﴿28﴾
قالوا إنكم كنتم تأتوننا عن اليمين
[The followers] will say, “It was you who used to delude us from the right way.”
قَالُواْ بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُواْ مُؤْمِنِينَ﴿29﴾
قالوا بل لم تكونوا مؤمنين
[The misleaders] will say, “Rather, you yourselves were not believers,
وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَٰنِ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْماٗ طَٰغِينَ﴿30﴾
وما كان لنا عليكم من سلطن بل كنتم قوما طغين
and We had no power over you, rather you yourselves were a transgressing people.
فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَ﴿31﴾
فحق علينا قول ربنا إنا لذائقون
Now the punishment of our Lord has come true against us; we will surely taste it.
فَأَغْوَيْنَٰكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَٰوِينَ﴿32﴾
فأغوينكم إنا كنا غوين
We did misguide you, for we ourselves were misguided”.
فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٖ فِي اِلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ﴿33﴾
فإنهم يومئذ في العذاب مشتركون
On that Day they will all share in the punishment.
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ﴿34﴾
إنا كذلك نفعل بالمجرمين
This is how We deal with the wicked,
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اَللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ﴿35﴾
إنهم كانوا إذا قيل لهم لا إله إلا الله يستكبرون
for whenever it was said to them, “None has the right to be worshiped except Allah,” they became arrogant,
وَيَقُولُونَ أَٰئِنَّا لَتَارِكُواْ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٖ مَّجْنُونِ﴿36﴾
ويقولون أئنا لتاركوا ءالهتنا لشاعر مجنون
and said, “Are we going to abandon our gods for a mad poet?”
بَلْ جَآءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ اَلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿37﴾
بل جاء بالحق وصدق المرسلين
Rather, he came with the truth and confirmed the messengers.
إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُواْ اُلْعَذَابِ اِلْأَلِيمِ﴿38﴾
إنكم لذائقوا العذاب الأليم
You will surely taste the painful punishment,
وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿39﴾
وما تجزون إلا ما كنتم تعملون
and you will only be recompensed for what you used to do,
إِلَّا عِبَادَ اَللَّهِ اِلْمُخْلَصِينَ﴿40﴾
إلا عباد الله المخلصين
except the chosen slaves of Allah.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٞ مَّعْلُومٞ﴿41﴾
أولئك لهم رزق معلوم
They will have a known provision,
فَوَٰكِهُ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ﴿42﴾
فوكه وهم مكرمون
fruits; and they will be honored
فِي جَنَّٰتِ اِلنَّعِيمِ﴿43﴾
في جنت النعيم
in Gardens of Bliss,
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ﴿44﴾
على سرر متقبلين
facing one another on couches.
يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٖ مِّن مَّعِينِ﴿45﴾
يطاف عليهم بكأس من معين
They will be served with a cup of wine from a flowing stream,
بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٖ لِّلشَّٰرِبِينَ﴿46﴾
بيضاء لذة للشربين
white and delicious for those who drink.
لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٞ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ﴿47﴾
لا فيها غول ولا هم عنها ينزفون
It will cause no harm, nor will they be intoxicated by it,
وَعِندَهُمْ قَٰصِرَٰتُ اُلطَّرْفِ عِينٞ﴿48﴾
وعندهم قصرت الطرف عين
and with them will be maidens of modest gaze and beautiful eyes,
كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٞ مَّكْنُونٞ﴿49﴾
كأنهن بيض مكنون
as if they were well-protected eggs.
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٖ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ﴿50﴾
فأقبل بعضهم على بعض يتساءلون
Then they will turn to one another asking.
قَالَ قَآئِلٞ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي قَرِينٞ﴿51﴾
قال قائل منهم إني كان لي قرين
One of them will say, “I had a close friend [in the world]
يَقُولُ أَٰنَّكَ لَمِنَ اَلْمُصَدِّقِينَ﴿52﴾
يقول أنك لمن المصدقين
who used to say, ‘Are you one of those who believe
أَٰذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَاباٗ وَعِظَٰماً إِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ﴿53﴾
أذا متنا وكنا ترابا وعظما إنا لمدينون
that when we die and become dust and bones, shall we be brought for judgment?’”
قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ﴿54﴾
قال هل أنتم مطلعون
He will say, “Do you wish to see [his fate]?”
فَاطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِي سَوَآءِ اِلْجَحِيمِ﴿55﴾
فاطلع فرءاه في سواء الجحيم
So he will look down and see him in the midst of the Blazing Fire.
قَالَ تَاللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ﴿56﴾
قال تالله إن كدت لتردين
He will say, “By Allah, you were about to ruin me.
وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّي لَكُنتُ مِنَ اَلْمُحْضَرِينَ﴿57﴾
ولولا نعمة ربي لكنت من المحضرين
Were it not for the grace of my Lord, I would have been among those who are brought [to Hell].”
أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ﴿58﴾
أفما نحن بميتين
[He will say to his fellow believers], “Are we not going to die anymore,
إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا اَلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ﴿59﴾
إلا موتتنا الأولى وما نحن بمعذبين
except for our first death, nor are we going to be punished?”
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهْوَ اَلْفَوْزُ اُلْعَظِيمُ﴿60﴾
إن هذا لهو الفوز العظيم
This is indeed the supreme triumph!
لِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ اِلْعَٰمِلُونَ﴿61﴾
لمثل هذا فليعمل العملون
For such [reward] let the workers work.
أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٞ نُّزُلاً أَمْ شَجَرَةُ اُلزَّقُّومِ﴿62﴾
أذلك خير نزلا أم شجرة الزقوم
Is this a better accommodation or the tree of Zaqqūm?
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَٰهَا فِتْنَةٗ لِّلظَّٰلِمِينَ﴿63﴾
إنا جعلنها فتنة للظلمين
We have made it a trial for the wrongdoers.
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٞ تَخْرُجُ فِي أَصْلِ اِلْجَحِيمِ﴿64﴾
إنها شجرة تخرج في أصل الجحيم
It is a tree that grows in the bottom of the Blazing Fire;
طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُ رُءُوسُ اُلشَّيَٰطِينِ﴿65﴾
طلعها كأنه رءوس الشيطين
its fruits are like heads of devils.
فَإِنَّهُمْ لَأٓكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا اَلْبُطُونَ﴿66﴾
فإنهم لأكلون منها فمالـون منها البطون
They will certainly eat from it, filling their bellies.
ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْباٗ مِّنْ حَمِيمٖ﴿67﴾
ثم إن لهم عليها لشوبا من حميم
Then on top of that they will be given a mixture of scalding water,
ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى اَلْجَحِيمِ﴿68﴾
ثم إن مرجعهم لإلى الجحيم
then their final return will be to the Blazing Fire.
إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْاْ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَ﴿69﴾
إنهم ألفوا ءاباءهم ضالين
For they found their forefathers astray,
فَهُمْ عَلَىٰ ءَاثَٰرِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ﴿70﴾
فهم على ءاثرهم يهرعون
so they rushed to follow in their footsteps.
وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ اُلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿71﴾
ولقد ضل قبلهم أكثر الأولين
Indeed, most of the earlier people went astray before them,
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ﴿72﴾
ولقد أرسلنا فيهم منذرين
even though We sent among them warners.
فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ اُلْمُنذَرِينَ﴿73﴾
فانظر كيف كان عقبة المنذرين
Then see how was the end of those who were warned,
إِلَّا عِبَادَ اَللَّهِ اِلْمُخْلَصِينَ﴿74﴾
إلا عباد الله المخلصين
except the chosen slaves of Allah.
وَلَقَدْ نَادَيٰنَا نُوحٞ فَلَنِعْمَ اَلْمُجِيبُونَ﴿75﴾
ولقد نادينا نوح فلنعم المجيبون
Indeed, Noah called upon Us; how excellent are We at responding!
وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ اَلْكَرْبِ اِلْعَظِيمِ﴿76﴾
ونجينه وأهله من الكرب العظيم
And We saved him and his household from the great distress,
وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ اُلْبَاقِينَ﴿77﴾
وجعلنا ذريته هم الباقين
and made his offspring the only survivors,
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي اِلْأٓخِرِينَ﴿78﴾
وتركنا عليه في الأخرين
and We left for him [a favorable mention] among later generations:
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٖ فِي اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿79﴾
سلم على نوح في العلمين
“Peace be upon Noah among all the nations.”
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي اِلْمُحْسِنِينَ﴿80﴾
إنا كذلك نجزي المحسنين
This is how We reward those who do good.
إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿81﴾
إنه من عبادنا المؤمنين
He was one of Our believing slaves.
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا اَلْأٓخَرِينَ﴿82﴾
ثم أغرقنا الأخرين
Then we drowned the others.
وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِ لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ﴿83﴾
وإن من شيعته لإبرهيم
Indeed, Abraham was one of those who followed his way.
إِذْ جَآءَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبٖ سَلِيمٍ﴿84﴾
إذ جاء ربه بقلب سليم
When he came to his Lord with a sound heart,
إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ﴿85﴾
إذ قال لأبيه وقومه ماذا تعبدون
and said to his father and his people, “What are you worshiping?
أَٰئِفْكاً ءَالِهَةٗ دُونَ اَللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ﴿86﴾
أئفكا ءالهة دون الله تريدون
Is it false gods that you seek other than Allah?
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿87﴾
فما ظنكم برب العلمين
Then what do you think of the Lord of the worlds?”
فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةٗ فِي اِلنُّجُومِ﴿88﴾
فنظر نظرة في النجوم
He then cast a glance at the stars,
فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَقِيمٞ﴿89﴾
فقال إني سقيم
and said, “I am sick.”
فَتَوَلَّوْاْ عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ﴿90﴾
فتولوا عنه مدبرين
So they went away from him and left.
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰ ءَالِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ﴿91﴾
فراغ إلى ءالهتهم فقال ألا تأكلون
Then he turned to their gods and said, “Why do you not eat?
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ﴿92﴾
ما لكم لا تنطقون
What is wrong with you that you do not speak?”
فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْباَ بِالْيَمِينِ﴿93﴾
فراغ عليهم ضربا باليمين
Then he turned upon them, striking them with his right hand.
فَأَقْبَلُواْ إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ﴿94﴾
فأقبلوا إليه يزفون
Then his people came rushing towards him.
قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ﴿95﴾
قال أتعبدون ما تنحتون
He said, “Do you worship what you yourselves carve,
وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ﴿96﴾
والله خلقكم وما تعملون
when it is Allah Who created you and all what you do?”
قَالُواْ اُبْنُواْ لَهُ بُنْيَٰناٗ فَأَلْقُوهُ فِي اِلْجَحِيمِ﴿97﴾
قالوا ابنوا له بنينا فألقوه في الجحيم
They said, “Build a pyre for him and throw him into the blazing fire.”
فَأَرَادُواْ بِهِ كَيْداٗ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمُ اُلْأَسْفَلِينَ﴿98﴾
فأرادوا به كيدا فجعلنهم الأسفلين
They contrived a plan against him, but We made them the lowest.
وَقَالَ إِنِّي ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ﴿99﴾
وقال إني ذاهب إلى ربي سيهدين
He said, “I am going to my Lord; He will guide me.
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ اَلصَّٰلِحِينَ﴿100﴾
رب هب لي من الصلحين
My Lord, grant me righteous offspring.”
فَبَشَّرْنَٰهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ حَلِيمٖ﴿101﴾
فبشرنه بغلم حليم
So We gave him glad tidings of a forbearing boy.
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ اُلسَّعْيَ قَالَ يَٰبُنَيِّ إِنِّيَ أَرَىٰ فِي اِلْمَنَامِ أَنِّيَ أَذْبَحُكَ فَانظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ قَالَ يَٰأَبَتِ اِفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ سَتَجِدُنِيَ إِن شَآءَ اَللَّهُ مِنَ اَلصَّٰبِرِينَ﴿102﴾
فلما بلغ معه السعي قال يبني إني أرى في المنام أني أذبحك فانظر ماذا ترى قال يأبت افعل ما تؤمر ستجدني إن شاء الله من الصبرين
Then when he reached the age where he could work with him, Abraham said, “O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice you. What do you think?” He said, “O my dear father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, one of the steadfast.”
فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُ لِلْجَبِينِ﴿103﴾
فلما أسلما وتله للجبين
When they both submitted [to Allah’s command] and Abraham laid him on his forehead,
وَنَٰدَيْنَٰهُ أَنْ يَّٰإِبْرَٰهِيمُ﴿104﴾
وندينه أن يإبرهيم
and We called out to him, “O Abraham,
قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ اَلرُّءْيَا إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي اِلْمُحْسِنِينَ﴿105﴾
قد صدقت الرءيا إنا كذلك نجزي المحسنين
You have fulfilled the dream.” This is how We reward those who do good.
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهْوَ اَلْبَلَٰٓؤُاْ اُلْمُبِينُ﴿106﴾
إن هذا لهو البلؤا المبين
This was indeed a revealing test.
وَفَدَيْنَٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٖ﴿107﴾
وفدينه بذبح عظيم
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي اِلْأٓخِرِينَ﴿108﴾
وتركنا عليه في الأخرين
and We left for him [a favorable mention] among later generations:
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ﴿109﴾
سلم على إبرهيم
“Peace be upon Abraham.”
كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي اِلْمُحْسِنِينَ﴿110﴾
كذلك نجزي المحسنين
This is how We reward those who do good.
إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿111﴾
إنه من عبادنا المؤمنين
He was one of Our believing slaves.
وَبَشَّرْنَٰهُ بِإِسْحَٰقَ نَبِيٓـٔاٗ مِّنَ اَلصَّٰلِحِينَ﴿112﴾
وبشرنه بإسحق نبيـا من الصلحين
And We gave him the glad tidings of Isaac, a prophet, and one of the righteous.
وَبَٰرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰ إِسْحَٰقَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٞ وَظَالِمٞ لِّنَفْسِهِ مُبِينٞ﴿113﴾
وبركنا عليه وعلى إسحق ومن ذريتهما محسن وظالم لنفسه مبين
We blessed him and Isaac, but among their offspring were some who did good and some who clearly wronged themselves.
وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ﴿114﴾
ولقد مننا على موسى وهرون
Indeed, We bestowed Our favor upon Moses and Aaron,
وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ اَلْكَرْبِ اِلْعَظِيمِ﴿115﴾
ونجينهما وقومهما من الكرب العظيم
and We saved them and their people from the great distress,
وَنَصَرْنَٰهُمْ فَكَانُواْ هُمُ اُلْغَٰلِبِينَ﴿116﴾
ونصرنهم فكانوا هم الغلبين
and We helped them, so they were victorious,
وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمَا اَلْكِتَٰبَ اَلْمُسْتَبِينَ﴿117﴾
وءاتينهما الكتب المستبين
and We gave them both the clear Scripture,
وَهَدَيْنَٰهُمَا اَلصِّرَٰطَ اَلْمُسْتَقِيمَ﴿118﴾
وهدينهما الصرط المستقيم
and guided them to the straight path;
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِي اِلْأٓخِرِينَ﴿119﴾
وتركنا عليهما في الأخرين
and We left for them [a favorable mention] among later generations:
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ﴿120﴾
سلم على موسى وهرون
“Peace be upon Moses and Aaron.”
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي اِلْمُحْسِنِينَ﴿121﴾
إنا كذلك نجزي المحسنين
This is how We reward those who do good.
إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿122﴾
إنهما من عبادنا المؤمنين
They were truly of Our believing slaves.
وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ اَلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿123﴾
وإن إلياس لمن المرسلين
Elijah was indeed one of the messengers.
إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ﴿124﴾
إذ قال لقومه ألا تتقون
When he said to his people: “Do you not fear Allah?
أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلاٗ وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ اَلْخَٰلِقِينَ﴿125﴾
أتدعون بعلا وتذرون أحسن الخلقين
Do you call upon Ba‘l and ignore the Best of the Creators,
اَللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ اُلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿126﴾
الله ربكم ورب ءابائكم الأولين
Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?”
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ﴿127﴾
فكذبوه فإنهم لمحضرون
But they rejected him, so they will surely be brought [for punishment],
إِلَّا عِبَادَ اَللَّهِ اِلْمُخْلَصِينَ﴿128﴾
إلا عباد الله المخلصين
except the chosen slaves of Allah.
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي اِلْأٓخِرِينَ﴿129﴾
وتركنا عليه في الأخرين
And We left for him [a favorable mention] among later generations:
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ ءَالِ يَاسِينَ﴿130﴾
سلم على ءال ياسين
“Peace be upon Elias.”
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي اِلْمُحْسِنِينَ﴿131﴾
إنا كذلك نجزي المحسنين
This is how We reward those who do good.
إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿132﴾
إنه من عبادنا المؤمنين
He was one of Our believing slaves.
وَإِنَّ لُوطاٗ لَّمِنَ اَلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿133﴾
وإن لوطا لمن المرسلين
Lot was indeed one of the messengers.
إِذْ نَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿134﴾
إذ نجينه وأهله أجمعين
When We saved him and all of his household,
إِلَّا عَجُوزاٗ فِي اِلْغَٰبِرِينَ﴿135﴾
إلا عجوزا في الغبرين
except an old woman who was among those who stayed behind.
ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا اَلْأٓخَرِينَ﴿136﴾
ثم دمرنا الأخرين
Then We destroyed the rest.
وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَ﴿137﴾
وإنكم لتمرون عليهم مصبحين
You [Makkans] pass by their ruins by day
وَبِاليْلِ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ﴿138﴾
وباليل أفلا تعقلون
and by night. Do you still not understand?
وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ اَلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿139﴾
وإن يونس لمن المرسلين
Jonah was indeed one of the messengers.
إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى اَلْفُلْكِ اِلْمَشْحُونِ﴿140﴾
إذ أبق إلى الفلك المشحون
When he fled to the fully laden ship,
فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ اَلْمُدْحَضِينَ﴿141﴾
فساهم فكان من المدحضين
then he cast lots with them, but was among those who lost.
فَالْتَقَمَهُ اُلْحُوتُ وَهْوَ مُلِيمٞ﴿142﴾
فالتقمه الحوت وهو مليم
The whale then swallowed him while he was blameworthy.
فَلَوْلَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ اَلْمُسَبِّحِينَ﴿143﴾
فلولا أنه كان من المسبحين
Were it not for the fact that he was one of those who glorify Allah,
لَلَبِثَ فِي بَطْنِهِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ﴿144﴾
للبث في بطنه إلى يوم يبعثون
he would have stayed in its belly until the Day of Resurrection.
فَنَبَذْنَٰهُ بِالْعَرَآءِ وَهْوَ سَقِيمٞ﴿145﴾
فنبذنه بالعراء وهو سقيم
But We cast him ashore on a barren land while he was ill,
وَأَنبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةٗ مِّنْ يَّقْطِينٖ﴿146﴾
وأنبتنا عليه شجرة من يقطين
and caused a gourd vine to grow over him.
وَأَرْسَلْنَٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِاْئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ﴿147﴾
وأرسلنه إلى ماية ألف أو يزيدون
We sent him to one hundred thousand people or more,
فَـَٔامَنُواْ فَمَتَّعْنَٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٖ﴿148﴾
فـامنوا فمتعنهم إلى حين
and they believed, so We let them enjoy for a while.
فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ اَلْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ اُلْبَنُونَ﴿149﴾
فاستفتهم ألربك البنات ولهم البنون
So ask them, “Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?”
أَمْ خَلَقْنَا اَلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَٰثاٗ وَهُمْ شَٰهِدُونَ﴿150﴾
أم خلقنا الملئكة إنثا وهم شهدون
Or did We create the angels as females while they were watching?
أَلَا إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ﴿151﴾
ألا إنهم من إفكهم ليقولون
No indeed, it is one of their fabrications when they say,
وَلَدَ اَللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ﴿152﴾
ولد الله وإنهم لكذبون
“Allah has children,” and they are truly liars.
أَصْطَفَى اَلْبَنَاتِ عَلَى اَلْبَنِينَ﴿153﴾
أصطفى البنات على البنين
Did He choose daughters over sons?
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ﴿154﴾
ما لكم كيف تحكمون
What is the matter with you? How do you judge?
أَفَلَا تَذَّكَّرُونَ﴿155﴾
أفلا تذكرون
Will you not then take heed?
أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَٰنٞ مُّبِينٞ﴿156﴾
أم لكم سلطن مبين
Do you have any compelling proof?
فَأْتُواْ بِكِتَٰبِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ﴿157﴾
فأتوا بكتبكم إن كنتم صدقين
Then bring your scripture, if you are truthful.
وَجَعَلُواْ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ اَلْجِنَّةِ نَسَباٗ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ اِلْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ﴿158﴾
وجعلوا بينه وبين الجنة نسبا ولقد علمت الجنة إنهم لمحضرون
They claim that there is a kinship between Him and the jinn, when the jinn themselves know that such people will surely be brought [for punishment].
سُبْحَٰنَ اَللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ﴿159﴾
سبحن الله عما يصفون
Glorified is Allah far above what they ascribe [to Him].
إِلَّا عِبَادَ اَللَّهِ اِلْمُخْلَصِينَ﴿160﴾
إلا عباد الله المخلصين
But not the chosen slaves of Allah.
فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ﴿161﴾
فإنكم وما تعبدون
So you and whatever you worship
مَا أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَٰتِنِينَ﴿162﴾
ما أنتم عليه بفتنين
none of you can lure anyone away from Him,
إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ اِلْجَحِيمِ﴿163﴾
إلا من هو صال الجحيم
except those who are destined to burn in the Blazing Fire.
وَمَا مِنَّا إِلَّا لَهُ مَقَامٞ مَّعْلُومٞ﴿164﴾
وما منا إلا له مقام معلوم
[The angels say], “There is none among us but has a known station:
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ اُلصَّآفُّونَ﴿165﴾
وإنا لنحن الصافون
We are indeed those who stand lined up in rows,
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ اُلْمُسَبِّحُونَ﴿166﴾
وإنا لنحن المسبحون
and we are indeed those who glorify Allah.”
وَإِن كَانُواْ لَيَقُولُونَ﴿167﴾
وإن كانوا ليقولون
And [the pagans] used to say,
لَوْ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكْراٗ مِّنَ اَلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿168﴾
لو أن عندنا ذكرا من الأولين
“If only we had a scripture like the previous people,
لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ اَللَّهِ اِلْمُخْلَصِينَ﴿169﴾
لكنا عباد الله المخلصين
we would have surely been true slaves of Allah.”
فَكَفَرُواْ بِهِ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ﴿170﴾
فكفروا به فسوف يعلمون
But they rejected it; soon they will come to know.
وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا اَلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿171﴾
ولقد سبقت كلمتنا لعبادنا المرسلين
Our Word has already been given to Our slaves, the messengers,
إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ اُلْمَنصُورُونَ﴿172﴾
إنهم لهم المنصورون
that it is surely they who will be given victory,
وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ اُلْغَٰلِبُونَ﴿173﴾
وإن جندنا لهم الغلبون
and that Our soldiers will surely be the victors.
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٖ﴿174﴾
فتول عنهم حتى حين
So turn away from them for a while.
وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ﴿175﴾
وأبصرهم فسوف يبصرون
Wait and see; soon they will see [their end].
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ﴿176﴾
أفبعذابنا يستعجلون
Do they really seek to hasten Our punishment?
فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ اُلْمُنذَرِينَ﴿177﴾
فإذا نزل بساحتهم فساء صباح المنذرين
When it descends on their courtyard, how terrible will be the morning of those who were warned!
وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٖ﴿178﴾
وتول عنهم حتى حين
And turn away from them for a while.
وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ﴿179﴾
وأبصر فسوف يبصرون
Wait and see; soon they will see [their end].
سُبْحَٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ اِلْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ﴿180﴾
سبحن ربك رب العزة عما يصفون
Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, far above what they ascribe [to Him],
وَسَلَٰمٌ عَلَى اَلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿181﴾
وسلم على المرسلين
and peace be upon the messengers,
وَالْحَمْدُ لِلهِ رَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿182﴾
والحمد لله رب العلمين
and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
