طَسِٓمِّٓ تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ اُلْكِتَٰبِ اِلْمُبِينِ﴿1﴾
طسم تلك ءايت الكتب المبين
Tā sīn mīm.
لَعَلَّكَ بَٰخِعٞ نَّفْسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُواْ مُؤْمِنِينَ﴿2﴾
لعلك بخع نفسك ألا يكونوا مؤمنين
These are the verses of the clear Book.
إِن نَّشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ اَلسَّمَآءِ اَيَةٗ فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَٰقُهُمْ لَهَا خَٰضِعِينَ﴿3﴾
إن نشأ ننزل عليهم من السماء اية فظلت أعنقهم لها خضعين
Perhaps you will grieve yourself to death because they do not believe.
وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٖ مِّنَ اَلرَّحْمَٰنِ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُواْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضِينَ﴿4﴾
وما يأتيهم من ذكر من الرحمن محدث إلا كانوا عنه معرضين
If We willed, We could send down upon them a sign from the heaven, at which their necks would stay bowed in humility.
فَقَدْ كَذَّبُواْ فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ أَنبَٰٓؤُاْ مَا كَانُواْ بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ﴿5﴾
فقد كذبوا فسيأتيهم أنبؤا ما كانوا به يستهزءون
No new reminder comes to them from the Most Compassionate except that they turn away from it.
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْاْ إِلَى اَلْأَرْضِ كَمْ أَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٖ كَرِيمٍ﴿6﴾
أولم يروا إلى الأرض كم أنبتنا فيها من كل زوج كريم
They have rejected [the Truth], soon there will come to them the consequences of their ridicule.
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ﴿7﴾
إن في ذلك لأية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين
Do they not see the earth, how many fine kinds of plants We grow in it?
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهْوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿8﴾
وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم
Indeed, there is a sign in this, yet most of them will not believe.
وَإِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبُّكَ مُوسَىٰ أَنِ اِئْتِ اِلْقَوْمَ اَلظَّٰلِمِينَ﴿9﴾
وإذ نادى ربك موسى أن ايت القوم الظلمين
Your Lord is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ أَلَا يَتَّقُونَ﴿10﴾
قوم فرعون ألا يتقون
And [remember] when your Lord called out to Moses, “Go to the wrongdoing people –
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّيَ أَخَافُ أَنْ يُّكَذِّبُونِ﴿11﴾
قال رب إني أخاف أن يكذبون
the people of Pharaoh; will they not fear [the punishment of] Allah?”
وَيَضِيقُ صَدْرِي وَلَا يَنطَلِقُ لِسَانِي فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَىٰ هَٰرُونَ﴿12﴾
ويضيق صدري ولا ينطلق لساني فأرسل إلى هرون
He said, “My Lord, I fear that they may reject me,
وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنبٞ فَأَخَافُ أَنْ يَّقْتُلُونِ﴿13﴾
ولهم علي ذنب فأخاف أن يقتلون
and I will feel distressed and my tongue will not be fluent, so send Aaron along [to help me].
قَالَ كَلَّا فَاذْهَبَا بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّسْتَمِعُونَ﴿14﴾
قال كلا فاذهبا بـايتنا إنا معكم مستمعون
Moreover, they have a charge against me, so I fear they may kill me.”
فَأْتِيَا فِرْعَوْنَ فَقُولَا إِنَّا رَسُولُ رَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿15﴾
فأتيا فرعون فقولا إنا رسول رب العلمين
Allah said, “Certainly not! Go, both of you, with Our signs; We are with you, listening.
أَنْ أَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِي إِسْرَآءِيلَ﴿16﴾
أن أرسل معنا بني إسراءيل
Go to Pharaoh and say, ‘We are the messengers from the Lord of the worlds,
قَالَ أَلَمْ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيداٗ وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ﴿17﴾
قال ألم نربك فينا وليدا ولبثت فينا من عمرك سنين
that you let the Children of Israel go with us.’”
وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ اَلتِي فَعَلْتَ وَأَنتَ مِنَ اَلْكَٰفِرِينَ﴿18﴾
وفعلت فعلتك التي فعلت وأنت من الكفرين
Pharaoh said, “Did we not bring you up as a child among us, and you stayed with us several years of your life?
قَالَ فَعَلْتُهَا إِذاٗ وَأَنَا مِنَ اَلضَّآلِّينَ﴿19﴾
قال فعلتها إذا وأنا من الضالين
Yet you did what you did, and you are extremely ungrateful.”
فَفَرَرْتُ مِنكُمْ لَمَّا خِفْتُكُمْ فَوَهَبَ لِي رَبِّي حُكْماٗ وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ اَلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿20﴾
ففررت منكم لما خفتكم فوهب لي ربي حكما وجعلني من المرسلين
He said, “I did it when I had no guidance.
وَتِلْكَ نِعْمَةٞ تَمُنُّهَا عَلَيَّ أَنْ عَبَّدتَّ بَنِي إِسْرَآءِيلَ﴿21﴾
وتلك نعمة تمنها علي أن عبدت بني إسراءيل
So I fled from you in fear. Then my Lord gave me wisdom and made me one of the messengers.
قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَا رَبُّ اُلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿22﴾
قال فرعون وما رب العلمين
Is this a favor that you remind me with, that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?
قَالَ رَبُّ اُلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ﴿23﴾
قال رب السموت والأرض وما بينهما إن كنتم موقنين
Pharaoh said, “What is ‘the Lord of the worlds’?”
قَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُ أَلَا تَسْتَمِعُونَ﴿24﴾
قال لمن حوله ألا تستمعون
Moses said, “The Lord of the heavens and earth and all that is between them, if only you had sure faith.”
قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ اُلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿25﴾
قال ربكم ورب ءابائكم الأولين
Pharaoh said to those around him, “Did you hear [what he just said]?”
قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَكُمُ اُلذِي أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمَجْنُونٞ﴿26﴾
قال إن رسولكم الذي أرسل إليكم لمجنون
Moses said, “Your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.”
قَالَ رَبُّ اُلْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ﴿27﴾
قال رب المشرق والمغرب وما بينهما إن كنتم تعقلون
Pharaoh said, “Your messenger who has been sent to you is truly insane!”
قَالَ لَئِنِ اِتَّخَذتَّ إِلَٰهاً غَيْرِي لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ اَلْمَسْجُونِينَ﴿28﴾
قال لئن اتخذت إلها غيري لأجعلنك من المسجونين
Moses said, “Lord of the east and west and all that is between them, if only you had sense!”
قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَيْءٖ مُّبِينٖ﴿29﴾
قال أولو جيتك بشيء مبين
Pharaoh said, “If you take any god other than me, I will throw you into prison.”
قَالَ فَأْتِ بِهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ اَلصَّٰدِقِينَ﴿30﴾
قال فأت به إن كنت من الصدقين
Moses said, “What if I bring you a clear proof?”
فَأَلْقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعْبَانٞ مُّبِينٞ﴿31﴾
فألقى عصاه فإذا هي ثعبان مبين
Pharaoh said, “Bring it then if you are truthful!”
وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ بَيْضَآءُ لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ﴿32﴾
ونزع يده فإذا هي بيضاء للنظرين
So he threw down his staff, and suddenly it was a real serpent.
قَالَ لِلْمَلَإِ حَوْلَهُ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَسَٰحِرٌ عَلِيمٞ﴿33﴾
قال للملإ حوله إن هذا لسحر عليم
And he drew out his hand, and it was glowing white to the beholders.
يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُّخْرِجَكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ﴿34﴾
يريد أن يخرجكم من أرضكم بسحره فماذا تأمرون
Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him, “This is indeed a learned magician!
قَالُواْ أَرْجِهِ وَأَخَاهُ وَابْعَثْ فِي اِلْمَدَآئِنِ حَٰشِرِينَ﴿35﴾
قالوا أرجه وأخاه وابعث في المدائن حشرين
He wants to drive you out of your land with his magic. What do you suggest?”
يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٖ﴿36﴾
يأتوك بكل سحار عليم
They said, “Let him and his brother wait and dispatch heralds to the cities
فَجُمِعَ اَلسَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَٰتِ يَوْمٖ مَّعْلُومٖ﴿37﴾
فجمع السحرة لميقت يوم معلوم
to bring you every learned magician.”
وَقِيلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّجْتَمِعُونَ﴿38﴾
وقيل للناس هل أنتم مجتمعون
So the magicians were assembled at an appointed time on a known day.
لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ اُلسَّحَرَةَ إِن كَانُواْ هُمُ اُلْغَٰلِبِينَ﴿39﴾
لعلنا نتبع السحرة إن كانوا هم الغلبين
And it was said to the people, “Will you join the gathering,
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ اَلسَّحَرَةُ قَالُواْ لِفِرْعَوْنَ أَٰئِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْراً إِن كُنَّا نَحْنُ اُلْغَٰلِبِينَ﴿40﴾
فلما جاء السحرة قالوا لفرعون أئن لنا لأجرا إن كنا نحن الغلبين
so that we may follow the magicians, if they are victorious?”
قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ إِذاٗ لَّمِنَ اَلْمُقَرَّبِينَ﴿41﴾
قال نعم وإنكم إذا لمن المقربين
When the magicians came, they said to Pharaoh, “Will there be a reward for us if we are victorious?”
قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰ أَلْقُواْ مَا أَنتُم مُّلْقُونَ﴿42﴾
قال لهم موسى ألقوا ما أنتم ملقون
He said, “Yes, and then you will surely be of those who are close to me.”
فَأَلْقَوْاْ حِبَالَهُمْ وَعِصِيَّهُمْ وَقَالُواْ بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّا لَنَحْنُ اُلْغَٰلِبُونَ﴿43﴾
فألقوا حبالهم وعصيهم وقالوا بعزة فرعون إنا لنحن الغلبون
Moses said to them, “Throw whatever you wish to throw.”
فَأَلْقَىٰ مُوسَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلَقَّفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ﴿44﴾
فألقى موسى عصاه فإذا هي تلقف ما يأفكون
So they threw their ropes and staffs, and said, “By the glory of Pharaoh, it is we who will be the victorious!”
فَأُلْقِيَ اَلسَّحَرَةُ سَٰجِدِينَ﴿45﴾
فألقي السحرة سجدين
Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it swallowed up all objects of their illusion.
قَالُواْ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿46﴾
قالوا ءامنا برب العلمين
So the magicians fell down in prostration.
رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ﴿47﴾
رب موسى وهرون
They said, “We believe in the Lord of the worlds,
قَالَ ءَاٰمَنتُمْ لَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمْ إِنَّهُ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ اُلذِي عَلَّمَكُمُ اُلسِّحْرَ فَلَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ﴿48﴾
قال ءامنتم له قبل أن ءاذن لكم إنه لكبيركم الذي علمكم السحر فلسوف تعلمون
the Lord of Moses and Aaron.”
لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَٰفٖ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿49﴾
لأقطعن أيديكم وأرجلكم من خلف ولأصلبنكم أجمعين
Pharaoh said, “How dare you believe in him before I give you permission. Indeed, he is your master who taught you magic, but you will soon come to know. I will surely cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all.”
قَالُواْ لَا ضَيْرَ إِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ﴿50﴾
قالوا لا ضير إنا إلى ربنا منقلبون
They said, “No harm; we will surely return to our Lord.
إِنَّا نَطْمَعُ أَنْ يَّغْفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَٰيَٰنَا أَن كُنَّا أَوَّلَ اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿51﴾
إنا نطمع أن يغفر لنا ربنا خطينا أن كنا أول المؤمنين
We hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers.”
وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنِ اِسْرِ بِعِبَادِيَ إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ﴿52﴾
وأوحينا إلى موسى أن اسر بعبادي إنكم متبعون
We inspired Moses, “Leave with My slaves by night; you will surely be pursued.”
فَأَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِي اِلْمَدَآئِنِ حَٰشِرِينَ﴿53﴾
فأرسل فرعون في المدائن حشرين
So Pharaoh sent heralds to the cities,
إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَآءِ لَشِرْذِمَةٞ قَلِيلُونَ﴿54﴾
إن هؤلاء لشرذمة قليلون
saying, “These are but a small band,
وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَآئِظُونَ﴿55﴾
وإنهم لنا لغائظون
and they have enraged us,
وَإِنَّا لَجَمِيعٌ حَذِرُونَ﴿56﴾
وإنا لجميع حذرون
but we are all well-prepared.”
فَأَخْرَجْنَٰهُم مِّن جَنَّٰتٖ وَعُيُونٖ﴿57﴾
فأخرجنهم من جنت وعيون
Thus did We drive them out of their gardens and springs,
وَكُنُوزٖ وَمَقَامٖ كَرِيمٖ﴿58﴾
وكنوز ومقام كريم
and their treasures and splendid dwellings.
كَذَٰلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَٰهَا بَنِي إِسْرَآءِيلَ﴿59﴾
كذلك وأورثنها بني إسراءيل
So it was, and We made the Children of Israel to inherit them.
فَأَتْبَعُوهُم مُّشْرِقِينَ﴿60﴾
فأتبعوهم مشرقين
They pursued them at sunrise.
فَلَمَّا تَرَٰٓءَا اَلْجَمْعَٰنِ قَالَ أَصْحَٰبُ مُوسَىٰ إِنَّا لَمُدْرَكُونَ﴿61﴾
فلما ترءا الجمعن قال أصحب موسى إنا لمدركون
When the two groups saw each other, the companions of Moses said, “We are surely overtaken!”
قَالَ كَلَّا إِنَّ مَعِي رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ﴿62﴾
قال كلا إن معي ربي سيهدين
Moses said, “Certainly not! My Lord is with me; He will guide me.”
فَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنِ اِضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ اَلْبَحْرَ فَانفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٖ كَالطَّوْدِ اِلْعَظِيمِ﴿63﴾
فأوحينا إلى موسى أن اضرب بعصاك البحر فانفلق فكان كل فرق كالطود العظيم
Then We inspired Moses, “Strike the sea with your staff,” so it parted, and each part became like a huge mountain.
وَأَزْلَفْنَا ثَمَّ اَلْأٓخَرِينَ﴿64﴾
وأزلفنا ثم الأخرين
Then We brought the others [i.e., the pursuers] close to that place,
وَأَنجَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿65﴾
وأنجينا موسى ومن معه أجمعين
and We saved Moses and all those who were with him.
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا اَلْأٓخَرِينَ﴿66﴾
ثم أغرقنا الأخرين
Then we drowned the others.
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ﴿67﴾
إن في ذلك لأية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين
Indeed, there is a sign in this, yet most of them would not believe.
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهْوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿68﴾
وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم
Indeed, your Lord is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ ابْرَٰهِيمَ﴿69﴾
واتل عليهم نبأ ابرهيم
Relate to them the story of Abraham,
إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ﴿70﴾
إذ قال لأبيه وقومه ما تعبدون
when he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?”
قَالُواْ نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَاماٗ فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَٰكِفِينَ﴿71﴾
قالوا نعبد أصناما فنظل لها عكفين
They said, “We worship idols and remain devoted to them.”
قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَدْعُونَ﴿72﴾
قال هل يسمعونكم إذ تدعون
He said, “Do they hear you when you call upon them?
أَوْ يَنفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ﴿73﴾
أو ينفعونكم أو يضرون
Or can they benefit or harm you?”
قَالُواْ بَلْ وَجَدْنَا ءَابَآءَنَا كَذَٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ﴿74﴾
قالوا بل وجدنا ءاباءنا كذلك يفعلون
They said, “No, but this is what we found our forefathers doing.”
قَالَ أَفَرَٰيْتُم مَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ﴿75﴾
قال أفريتم ما كنتم تعبدون
He said, “Do you see what you have been worshiping,
أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمُ اُلْأَقْدَمُونَ﴿76﴾
أنتم وءاباؤكم الأقدمون
you and your ancestors?
فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوّٞ لِّيَ إِلَّا رَبَّ اَلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿77﴾
فإنهم عدو لي إلا رب العلمين
Indeed, they are my enemies, except the Lord of the worlds,
اَلذِي خَلَقَنِي فَهْوَ يَهْدِينِ﴿78﴾
الذي خلقني فهو يهدين
Who created me, so He guides me;
وَالذِي هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِ﴿79﴾
والذي هو يطعمني ويسقين
and it is He Who provides me with food and drink;
وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهْوَ يَشْفِينِ﴿80﴾
وإذا مرضت فهو يشفين
and when I am ill He heals me;
وَالذِي يُمِيتُنِي ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ﴿81﴾
والذي يميتني ثم يحيين
and He will cause me to die and then bring me back to life;
وَالذِي أَطْمَعُ أَنْ يَّغْفِرَ لِي خَطِيَٓٔتِي يَوْمَ اَلدِّينِ﴿82﴾
والذي أطمع أن يغفر لي خطيتي يوم الدين
and I hope that He will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgment.”
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي حُكْماٗ وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّٰلِحِينَ﴿83﴾
رب هب لي حكما وألحقني بالصلحين
“My Lord, grant me knowledge, and join me with the righteous,
وَاجْعَل لِّي لِسَانَ صِدْقٖ فِي اِلْأٓخِرِينَ﴿84﴾
واجعل لي لسان صدق في الأخرين
and grant me an honorable mention among the later generations,
وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ وَّرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ اِلنَّعِيمِ﴿85﴾
واجعلني من ورثة جنة النعيم
and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss;
وَاغْفِرْ لِأَبِيَ إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ اَلضَّآلِّينَ﴿86﴾
واغفر لأبي إنه كان من الضالين
and forgive my father, for he is one of those who have gone astray;
وَلَا تُخْزِنِي يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ﴿87﴾
ولا تخزني يوم يبعثون
and do not disgrace me on the Day when all will be resurrected –
يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٞ وَلَا بَنُونَ﴿88﴾
يوم لا ينفع مال ولا بنون
the Day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail,
إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اَللَّهَ بِقَلْبٖ سَلِيمٖ﴿89﴾
إلا من أتى الله بقلب سليم
except the one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.”
وَأُزْلِفَتِ اِلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ﴿90﴾
وأزلفت الجنة للمتقين
Paradise will be brought near to the righteous,
وَبُرِّزَتِ اِلْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ﴿91﴾
وبرزت الجحيم للغاوين
and Hellfire will be uncovered to those who went astray,
وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ﴿92﴾
وقيل لهم أين ما كنتم تعبدون
and they will be told, “Where are those whom you used to worship
مِن دُونِ اِللَّهِ هَلْ يَنصُرُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَنتَصِرُونَ﴿93﴾
من دون الله هل ينصرونكم أو ينتصرون
other than Allah? Can they help you or even help themselves?”
فَكُبْكِبُواْ فِيهَا هُمْ وَالْغَاوُنَ﴿94﴾
فكبكبوا فيها هم والغاون
Then they will be hurled into Hell one upon another, along with those who led them astray,
وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ﴿95﴾
وجنود إبليس أجمعون
and the followers of Iblīs, all together.
قَالُواْ وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ﴿96﴾
قالوا وهم فيها يختصمون
There the deviants will say while quarreling with their false deities,
تَاللَّهِ إِن كُنَّا لَفِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٍ﴿97﴾
تالله إن كنا لفي ضلل مبين
“By Allah, we were clearly misguided,
إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُم بِرَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿98﴾
إذ نسويكم برب العلمين
when we deemed you equal to the Lord of the worlds.
وَمَا أَضَلَّنَا إِلَّا اَلْمُجْرِمُونَ﴿99﴾
وما أضلنا إلا المجرمون
None led us astray except the wicked.
فَمَا لَنَا مِن شَٰفِعِينَ﴿100﴾
فما لنا من شفعين
Now we neither have any intercessors,
وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٖ﴿101﴾
ولا صديق حميم
nor a close friend.
فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةٗ فَنَكُونَ مِنَ اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿102﴾
فلو أن لنا كرة فنكون من المؤمنين
If only we had a chance to return, we would be among the believers.”
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ﴿103﴾
إن في ذلك لأية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين
Indeed, there is a sign in this, yet most of them would not believe.
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهْوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿104﴾
وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم
Your Lord is surely the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ اِلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿105﴾
كذبت قوم نوح المرسلين
The people of Noah rejected the messengers
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ﴿106﴾
إذ قال لهم أخوهم نوح ألا تتقون
when their brother Noah said to them, “Do you not fear Allah?
إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٞ﴿107﴾
إني لكم رسول أمين
I am a trustworthy messenger to you,
فَاتَّقُواْ اُللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ﴿108﴾
فاتقوا الله وأطيعون
so fear Allah, and obey me.
وَمَا أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿109﴾
وما أسـلكم عليه من أجر إن أجري إلا على رب العلمين
I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds;
فَاتَّقُواْ اُللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ﴿110﴾
فاتقوا الله وأطيعون
so fear Allah, and obey me.”
قَالُواْ أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَاتَّبَعَكَ اَلْأَرْذَلُونَ﴿111﴾
قالوا أنؤمن لك واتبعك الأرذلون
They said, “Shall we believe in you when you are followed by the lowest people?”
قَالَ وَمَا عِلْمِي بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ﴿112﴾
قال وما علمي بما كانوا يعملون
He said, “What knowledge do I have of what they do?
إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّي لَوْ تَشْعُرُونَ﴿113﴾
إن حسابهم إلا على ربي لو تشعرون
Their reckoning is only with my Lord if you realize!
وَمَا أَنَا بِطَارِدِ اِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿114﴾
وما أنا بطارد المؤمنين
I am not going to drive the believers away.
إِنْ أَنَا إِلَّا نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٞ﴿115﴾
إن أنا إلا نذير مبين
I am only a clear warner.”
قَالُواْ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَٰنُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ اَلْمَرْجُومِينَ﴿116﴾
قالوا لئن لم تنته ينوح لتكونن من المرجومين
They said, “O Noah, if you do not desist, you will certainly be stoned.”
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِي كَذَّبُونِ﴿117﴾
قال رب إن قومي كذبون
He said, “My Lord, my people have rejected me.
فَافْتَحْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَتْحاٗ وَنَجِّنِي وَمَن مَّعِي مِنَ اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿118﴾
فافتح بيني وبينهم فتحا ونجني ومن معي من المؤمنين
So judge between me and them decisively, and save me and the believers who are with me.”
فَأَنجَيْنَٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُ فِي اِلْفُلْكِ اِلْمَشْحُونِ﴿119﴾
فأنجينه ومن معه في الفلك المشحون
So We saved him and those who were with him in the fully laden Ark.
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا بَعْدُ اُلْبَاقِينَ﴿120﴾
ثم أغرقنا بعد الباقين
Then We drowned thereafter all the rest.
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ﴿121﴾
إن في ذلك لأية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين
Indeed, there is a sign in this, yet most of them would not believe.
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهْوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿122﴾
وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم
Indeed, your Lord is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ اِلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿123﴾
كذبت عاد المرسلين
The people of ‘Ād rejected the messengers
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ﴿124﴾
إذ قال لهم أخوهم هود ألا تتقون
when their brother Hūd said to them, “Will you not fear Allah?
إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٞ﴿125﴾
إني لكم رسول أمين
I am a trustworthy messenger to you,
فَاتَّقُواْ اُللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ﴿126﴾
فاتقوا الله وأطيعون
so fear Allah, and obey me.
وَمَا أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿127﴾
وما أسـلكم عليه من أجر إن أجري إلا على رب العلمين
I do not ask you for any reward for this; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds.
أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ ءَايَةٗ تَعْبَثُونَ﴿128﴾
أتبنون بكل ريع ءاية تعبثون
Do you build a landmark on every high place for no purpose?
وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ﴿129﴾
وتتخذون مصانع لعلكم تخلدون
And do you construct for yourselves palaces, hoping that you will live forever?
وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُم بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ﴿130﴾
وإذا بطشتم بطشتم جبارين
And when you attack [others], do you attack ruthlessly?
فَاتَّقُواْ اُللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ﴿131﴾
فاتقوا الله وأطيعون
So fear Allah, and obey me.
وَاتَّقُواْ اُلذِي أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ﴿132﴾
واتقوا الذي أمدكم بما تعلمون
And fear the One Who has provided you with everything you know:
أَمَدَّكُم بِأَنْعَٰمٖ وَبَنِينَ﴿133﴾
أمدكم بأنعم وبنين
Who provided you with livestock and children,
وَجَنَّٰتٖ وَعُيُونٍ﴿134﴾
وجنت وعيون
and with gardens and springs.
إِنِّيَ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٖ﴿135﴾
إني أخاف عليكم عذاب يوم عظيم
I fear for you the punishment of a momentous day.”
قَالُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْنَا أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُن مِّنَ اَلْوَٰعِظِينَ﴿136﴾
قالوا سواء علينا أوعظت أم لم تكن من الوعظين
They said, “It is the same to us whether you admonish us or not.
إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا خُلُقُ اُلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿137﴾
إن هذا إلا خلق الأولين
This is nothing but the custom of the former people,
وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ﴿138﴾
وما نحن بمعذبين
and we will never be punished.”
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ﴿139﴾
فكذبوه فأهلكنهم إن في ذلك لأية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين
Thus they rejected him, so We destroyed them. Indeed, there is a sign in this, yet most of them would not believe,
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهْوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿140﴾
وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم
Your Lord is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ اُلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿141﴾
كذبت ثمود المرسلين
The people of Thamūd rejected the messengers
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ صَٰلِحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ﴿142﴾
إذ قال لهم أخوهم صلح ألا تتقون
when their brother Sālih said to them, “Will you not fear Allah?
إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٞ﴿143﴾
إني لكم رسول أمين
I am a trustworthy messenger to you,
فَاتَّقُواْ اُللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ﴿144﴾
فاتقوا الله وأطيعون
so fear Allah, and obey me.
وَمَا أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿145﴾
وما أسـلكم عليه من أجر إن أجري إلا على رب العلمين
I do not ask you for any reward for this; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds.
أَتُتْرَكُونَ فِي مَا هَٰهُنَا ءَامِنِينَ﴿146﴾
أتتركون في ما ههنا ءامنين
Will you be left secure in whatever you have here,
فِي جَنَّٰتٖ وَعُيُونٖ﴿147﴾
في جنت وعيون
in gardens and springs,
وَزُرُوعٖ وَنَخْلٖ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٞ﴿148﴾
وزروع ونخل طلعها هضيم
and in fields of crops and date palms laden with tender fruit,
وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ اَلْجِبَالِ بِيُوتاٗ فَرِهِينَ﴿149﴾
وتنحتون من الجبال بيوتا فرهين
carving out houses in the mountains with great skill?
فَاتَّقُواْ اُللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ﴿150﴾
فاتقوا الله وأطيعون
So fear Allah, and obey me.
وَلَا تُطِيعُواْ أَمْرَ اَلْمُسْرِفِينَ﴿151﴾
ولا تطيعوا أمر المسرفين
And do not obey the command of the transgressors,
اَلذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي اِلْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ﴿152﴾
الذين يفسدون في الأرض ولا يصلحون
those who spread corruption in the land and never do what is right.”
قَالُواْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مِنَ اَلْمُسَحَّرِينَ﴿153﴾
قالوا إنما أنت من المسحرين
They said, “You are but one of those who are bewitched!
مَا أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِـَٔايَةٍ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ اَلصَّٰدِقِينَ﴿154﴾
ما أنت إلا بشر مثلنا فأت بـاية إن كنت من الصدقين
You are but a human like us, so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful.”
قَالَ هَٰذِهِ نَاقَةٞ لَّهَا شِرْبٞ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٖ مَّعْلُومٖ﴿155﴾
قال هذه ناقة لها شرب ولكم شرب يوم معلوم
Sālih said, “This is a she-camel; she will have her share of water and you will have yours, each on a specified day.
وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوٓءٖ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٖ﴿156﴾
ولا تمسوها بسوء فيأخذكم عذاب يوم عظيم
Do not touch her with harm, or you will be seized by the punishment of a horrible day.”
فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصْبَحُواْ نَٰدِمِينَ﴿157﴾
فعقروها فأصبحوا ندمين
But they hamstrung her, then they became regretful,
فَأَخَذَهُمُ اُلْعَذَابُ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ﴿158﴾
فأخذهم العذاب إن في ذلك لأية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين
So the punishment seized them. Indeed, there is a sign in this, yet most of them would not believe.
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهْوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿159﴾
وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم
Your Lord is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ اِلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿160﴾
كذبت قوم لوط المرسلين
The people of Lot rejected the messengers,
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ﴿161﴾
إذ قال لهم أخوهم لوط ألا تتقون
when their brother Lot said to them, “Will you not fear Allah?
إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٞ﴿162﴾
إني لكم رسول أمين
I am a trustworthy messenger to you,
فَاتَّقُواْ اُللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ﴿163﴾
فاتقوا الله وأطيعون
so fear Allah, and obey me.
وَمَا أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿164﴾
وما أسـلكم عليه من أجر إن أجري إلا على رب العلمين
I do not ask you for any reward for this; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds.
أَتَأْتُونَ اَلذُّكْرَانَ مِنَ اَلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿165﴾
أتأتون الذكران من العلمين
Do you approach males with lust among all people,
وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُم مِّنْ أَزْوَٰجِكُم بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ﴿166﴾
وتذرون ما خلق لكم ربكم من أزوجكم بل أنتم قوم عادون
leaving the wives whom your Lord has created for you? You are but a transgressing people.”
قَالُواْ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَٰلُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ اَلْمُخْرَجِينَ﴿167﴾
قالوا لئن لم تنته يلوط لتكونن من المخرجين
They said, “O Lot, If you do not desist, you will surely be expelled.”
قَالَ إِنِّي لِعَمَلِكُم مِّنَ اَلْقَالِينَ﴿168﴾
قال إني لعملكم من القالين
Lot said, “I am one of those who utterly abhor your practice.
رَبِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهْلِي مِمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ﴿169﴾
رب نجني وأهلي مما يعملون
My Lord, save me and my family from [the consequences of] what they do.”
فَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿170﴾
فنجينه وأهله أجمعين
So We saved him and all his family,
إِلَّا عَجُوزاٗ فِي اِلْغَٰبِرِينَ﴿171﴾
إلا عجوزا في الغبرين
except an old woman who was among those who remained behind.
ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا اَلْأٓخَرِينَ﴿172﴾
ثم دمرنا الأخرين
Then We destroyed the rest,
وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَراٗ فَسَآءَ مَطَرُ اُلْمُنذَرِينَ﴿173﴾
وأمطرنا عليهم مطرا فساء مطر المنذرين
and We poured down upon them a rain [of stones]. How terrible was the rain of those who were warned!
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ﴿174﴾
إن في ذلك لأية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين
Indeed, there is a sign in this, yet most of them would not believe.
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهْوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿175﴾
وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم
Your Lord is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
كَذَّبَ أَصْحَٰبُ لَيْكَةَ اَلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿176﴾
كذب أصحب ليكة المرسلين
The people of the Forest rejected the messengers.
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ شُعَيْبٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ﴿177﴾
إذ قال لهم شعيب ألا تتقون
When Shu‘ayb said to them, “Will you not fear Allah?
إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٞ﴿178﴾
إني لكم رسول أمين
I am a trustworthy messenger to you,
فَاتَّقُواْ اُللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ﴿179﴾
فاتقوا الله وأطيعون
so fear Allah, and obey me.
وَمَا أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿180﴾
وما أسـلكم عليه من أجر إن أجري إلا على رب العلمين
I do not ask you for any reward for this; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds.
أَوْفُواْ اُلْكَيْلَ وَلَا تَكُونُواْ مِنَ اَلْمُخْسِرِينَ﴿181﴾
أوفوا الكيل ولا تكونوا من المخسرين
Give full measure and do not be of those who defraud others,
وَزِنُواْ بِالْقُسْطَاسِ اِلْمُسْتَقِيمِ﴿182﴾
وزنوا بالقسطاس المستقيم
and weigh with accurate scales,
وَلَا تَبْخَسُواْ اُلنَّاسَ أَشْيَآءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْاْ فِي اِلْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ﴿183﴾
ولا تبخسوا الناس أشياءهم ولا تعثوا في الأرض مفسدين
and do not defraud people of their goods, nor go about in the land spreading corruption.
وَاتَّقُواْ اُلذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالْجِبِلَّةَ اَلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿184﴾
واتقوا الذي خلقكم والجبلة الأولين
And fear the One Who created you and the former peoples.”
قَالُواْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مِنَ اَلْمُسَحَّرِينَ﴿185﴾
قالوا إنما أنت من المسحرين
They said, “You are truly bewitched!
وَمَا أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثْلُنَا وَإِن نَّظُنُّكَ لَمِنَ اَلْكَٰذِبِينَ﴿186﴾
وما أنت إلا بشر مثلنا وإن نظنك لمن الكذبين
You are only a human being like us, and we think you are nothing but a liar.
فَأَسْقِطْ عَلَيْنَا كِسْفاٗ مِّنَ اَلسَّمَآ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ اَلصَّٰدِقِينَ﴿187﴾
فأسقط علينا كسفا من السما إن كنت من الصدقين
So cause pieces of the sky to fall upon us, if you are of the truthful.”
قَالَ رَبِّيَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ﴿188﴾
قال ربي أعلم بما تعملون
Shu‘ayb said, “My Lord knows best whatever you do.”
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمِ اِلظُّلَّةِ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ﴿189﴾
فكذبوه فأخذهم عذاب يوم الظلة إنه كان عذاب يوم عظيم
Thus they rejected him, so they were seized by the punishment of the cloudy day; it was the punishment of a horrible day.
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ﴿190﴾
إن في ذلك لأية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين
Indeed, there is a sign in this, yet most of them would not believe.
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهْوَ اَلْعَزِيزُ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿191﴾
وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم
Your Lord is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
وَإِنَّهُ لَتَنزِيلُ رَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿192﴾
وإنه لتنزيل رب العلمين
This is indeed a revelation from the Lord of the worlds,
نَزَلَ بِهِ اِلرُّوحُ اُلْأَمِينُ﴿193﴾
نزل به الروح الأمين
which the Trustworthy Spirit [Gabriel] has brought down
عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ لِتَكُونَ مِنَ اَلْمُنذِرِينَ﴿194﴾
على قلبك لتكون من المنذرين
to your heart [O Prophet] so that you may be one of the warners,
بِلِسَانٍ عَرَبِيّٖ مُّبِينٖ﴿195﴾
بلسان عربي مبين
in a clear Arabic language.
وَإِنَّهُ لَفِي زُبُرِ اِلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿196﴾
وإنه لفي زبر الأولين
And it was indeed [mentioned] in the scriptures of the former peoples.
أَوَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُمْ ءَايَةً أَنْ يَّعْلَمَهُ عُلَمَٰٓؤُاْ بَنِي إِسْرَآءِيلَ﴿197﴾
أولم يكن لهم ءاية أن يعلمه علمؤا بني إسراءيل
Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of the Children of Israel recognized it [to be true]?
وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ بَعْضِ اِلْأَعْجَمِينَ﴿198﴾
ولو نزلنه على بعض الأعجمين
If We had sent it down to any of the non-Arabs,
فَقَرَأَهُ عَلَيْهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِ مُؤْمِنِينَ﴿199﴾
فقرأه عليهم ما كانوا به مؤمنين
and he had recited it to them; still, they would not have believed in it.
كَذَٰلِكَ سَلَكْنَٰهُ فِي قُلُوبِ اِلْمُجْرِمِينَ﴿200﴾
كذلك سلكنه في قلوب المجرمين
This is how We made it [i.e., disbelief] enter the hearts of the wicked.
لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ حَتَّىٰ يَرَوُاْ اُلْعَذَابَ اَلْأَلِيمَ﴿201﴾
لا يؤمنون به حتى يروا العذاب الأليم
They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment,
فَيَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةٗ وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ﴿202﴾
فيأتيهم بغتة وهم لا يشعرون
which will come upon them suddenly when they least expect it.
فَيَقُولُواْ هَلْ نَحْنُ مُنظَرُونَ﴿203﴾
فيقولوا هل نحن منظرون
They will then say, “Can we be granted some respite?”
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ﴿204﴾
أفبعذابنا يستعجلون
Do they really seek to hasten Our punishment?
أَفَرَٰيْتَ إِن مَّتَّعْنَٰهُمْ سِنِينَ﴿205﴾
أفريت إن متعنهم سنين
Tell me [O Prophet] if We give them a life of ease for years,
ثُمَّ جَآءَهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يُوعَدُونَ﴿206﴾
ثم جاءهم ما كانوا يوعدون
then there came to them what they were warned of,
مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يُمَتَّعُونَ﴿207﴾
ما أغنى عنهم ما كانوا يمتعون
what would avail them the life of ease that they were given?
وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا لَهَا مُنذِرُونَ﴿208﴾
وما أهلكنا من قرية إلا لها منذرون
We never destroyed any town without sending them warners,
ذِكْرَىٰ وَمَا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ﴿209﴾
ذكرى وما كنا ظلمين
to admonish them, for We are never unjust.
وَمَا تَنَزَّلَتْ بِهِ اِلشَّيَٰطِينُ وَمَا يَنبَغِي لَهُمْ وَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ﴿210﴾
وما تنزلت به الشيطين وما ينبغي لهم وما يستطيعون
This [Qur’an] is not sent down by the devils,
إِنَّهُمْ عَنِ اِلسَّمْعِ لَمَعْزُولُونَ﴿211﴾
إنهم عن السمع لمعزولون
it is not for them to do this, nor is it within their capability,
فَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ اَللَّهِ إِلَٰهاً ءَاخَرَ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ اَلْمُعَذَّبِينَ﴿212﴾
فلا تدع مع الله إلها ءاخر فتكون من المعذبين
for they are strictly barred from overhearing it.
وَأَنذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ اَلْأَقْرَبِينَ﴿213﴾
وأنذر عشيرتك الأقربين
So do not call upon any other god besides Allah, lest you become of those who will be punished.
وَاخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِمَنِ اِتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿214﴾
واخفض جناحك لمن اتبعك من المؤمنين
And warn [starting with] the nearest kinsfolk,
فَإِنْ عَصَوْكَ فَقُلْ إِنِّي بَرِيٓءٞ مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ﴿215﴾
فإن عصوك فقل إني بريء مما تعملون
and lower your wing [in kindness] to the believers who follow you.
فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اَلْعَزِيزِ اِلرَّحِيمِ﴿216﴾
فتوكل على العزيز الرحيم
But if they disobey you, say, “I disown what you do.”
اِلذِي يَرَيٰكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ﴿217﴾
الذي يريك حين تقوم
And put your trust in the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful,
وَتَقَلُّبَكَ فِي اِلسَّٰجِدِينَ﴿218﴾
وتقلبك في السجدين
Who sees you when you stand up [for prayer],
إِنَّهُ هُوَ اَلسَّمِيعُ اُلْعَلِيمُ﴿219﴾
إنه هو السميع العليم
and your movements among those who prostrate.
هَلْ أُنَبِّئُكُمْ عَلَىٰ مَن تَنَزَّلُ اُلشَّيَٰطِينُ﴿220﴾
هل أنبيكم على من تنزل الشيطين
Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
تَنَزَّلُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمٖ﴿221﴾
تنزل على كل أفاك أثيم
Shall I inform you upon who the devils descend?
يُلْقُونَ اَلسَّمْعَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ كَٰذِبُونَ﴿222﴾
يلقون السمع وأكثرهم كذبون
They descend upon every sinful liar,
وَالشُّعَرَآءُ يَتْبَعُهُمُ اُلْغَاوُنَ﴿223﴾
والشعراء يتبعهم الغاون
who whisper hearsay in the ears, but most of them are liars.
أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي كُلِّ وَادٖ يَهِيمُونَ﴿224﴾
ألم تر أنهم في كل واد يهيمون
As for poets, they are followed by the deviants.
وَأَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُونَ﴿225﴾
وأنهم يقولون ما لا يفعلون
Do you not see that they wander aimlessly in every valley,
إِلَّا اَلذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ اُلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَذَكَرُواْ اُللَّهَ كَثِيراٗ وَانتَصَرُواْ مِن بَعْدِ مَا ظُلِمُواْ وَسَيَعْلَمُ اُلذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ أَيَّ مُنقَلَبٖ يَنقَلِبُونَ﴿226﴾
إلا الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت وذكروا الله كثيرا وانتصروا من بعد ما ظلموا وسيعلم الذين ظلموا أي منقلب ينقلبون
and that they say what they do not do?
