الطُّور

وَالطُّورِ وَكِتَٰبٖ مَّسْطُورٖ﴿1﴾

والطور وكتب مسطور

By the mount of Tūr,

فِي رَقّٖ مَّنشُورٖ﴿2﴾

في رق منشور

and by the Book inscribed

وَالْبَيْتِ اِلْمَعْمُورِ﴿3﴾

والبيت المعمور

on an unrolled parchment,

وَالسَّقْفِ اِلْمَرْفُوعِ﴿4﴾

والسقف المرفوع

and by the much-frequented House,

وَالْبَحْرِ اِلْمَسْجُورِ﴿5﴾

والبحر المسجور

and by the canopy raised high,

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَٰقِعٞ﴿6﴾

إن عذاب ربك لوقع

and by the sea set on fire.

مَّا لَهُ مِن دَافِعٖ﴿7﴾

ما له من دافع

The punishment of your Lord will surely come to pass;

يَوْمَ تَمُورُ اُلسَّمَآءُ مَوْراٗ﴿8﴾

يوم تمور السماء مورا

there is none who can avert it.

وَتَسِيرُ اُلْجِبَالُ سَيْراٗ﴿9﴾

وتسير الجبال سيرا

On the Day when the heaven will convulse violently,

فَوَيْلٞ يَوْمَئِذٖ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿10﴾

فويل يومئذ للمكذبين

and the mountains will move a horrible movement.

اَلذِينَ هُمْ فِي خَوْضٖ يَلْعَبُونَ﴿11﴾

الذين هم في خوض يلعبون

Then woe to the deniers on that Day,

يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعّاً هَٰذِهِ اِلنَّارُ اُلتِي كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ﴿12﴾

يوم يدعون إلى نار جهنم دعا هذه النار التي كنتم بها تكذبون

those who amuse themselves in falsehood.

أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَا أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿13﴾

أفسحر هذا أم أنتم لا تبصرون

On the Day when they will be shoved into the Fire forcefully,

اَصْلَوْهَا فَاصْبِرُواْ أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿14﴾

اصلوها فاصبروا أو لا تصبروا سواء عليكم إنما تجزون ما كنتم تعملون

[They will be told,] “This is the Fire which you used to deny.

إِنَّ اَلْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّٰتٖ وَنَعِيمٖ﴿15﴾

إن المتقين في جنت ونعيم

Is this [punishment] magic, or do you not see?

فَٰكِهِينَ بِمَا ءَاتَيٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَيٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ اَلْجَحِيمِ﴿16﴾

فكهين بما ءاتيهم ربهم ووقيهم ربهم عذاب الجحيم

Burn in it, whether you bear it patiently or impatiently, it makes no difference to you; you are recompensed only for what you used to do.”

كُلُواْ وَاشْرَبُواْ هَنِيٓـٔاَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿17﴾

كلوا واشربوا هنيـا بما كنتم تعملون

Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and bliss,

مُتَّكِـِٕينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مَّصْفُوفَةٖ وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٖ﴿18﴾

متكـين على سرر مصفوفة وزوجنهم بحور عين

enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of the Blazing Fire.

وَالذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَٰنٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّٰتِهِمْ وَمَا أَلَتْنَٰهُم مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَيْءٖ كُلُّ اُمْرِيِٕ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٞ﴿19﴾

والذين ءامنوا واتبعتهم ذريتهم بإيمن ألحقنا بهم ذريتهم وما ألتنهم من عملهم من شيء كل امري بما كسب رهين

“Eat and drink pleasantly for what you used to do,

وَأَمْدَدْنَٰهُم بِفَٰكِهَةٖ وَلَحْمٖ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ﴿20﴾

وأمددنهم بفكهة ولحم مما يشتهون

reclining on couches all lined up”. And We will marry them to houris with wide beautiful eyes.

يَتَنَٰزَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْساٗ لَّا لَغْوٞ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٞ﴿21﴾

يتنزعون فيها كأسا لا لغو فيها ولا تأثيم

As for those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will cause their offspring to join them, and will not detract anything from [the reward of] their deeds. Everyone will be accountable for what he earned.

وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٞ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٞ مَّكْنُونٞ﴿22﴾

ويطوف عليهم غلمان لهم كأنهم لؤلؤ مكنون

And We will provide them with whatever fruit and meat they desire.

وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٖ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ﴿23﴾

وأقبل بعضهم على بعض يتساءلون

They will pass around to one another a glass [of pure wine] which does not lead to idle talk or sin.

قَالُواْ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِي أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ﴿24﴾

قالوا إنا كنا قبل في أهلنا مشفقين

They will be served by their servant boys, as if they were well-protected pearls.

فَمَنَّ اَللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَيٰنَا عَذَابَ اَلسَّمُومِ﴿25﴾

فمن الله علينا ووقينا عذاب السموم

They will turn to one another with questions.

إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ أَنَّهُ هُوَ اَلْبَرُّ اُلرَّحِيمُ﴿26﴾

إنا كنا من قبل ندعوه أنه هو البر الرحيم

They will say, “Before this, we used to be in awe [of Allah] when we were living among our people.

فَذَكِّرْ فَمَا أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٖ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ﴿27﴾

فذكر فما أنت بنعمت ربك بكاهن ولا مجنون

Therefore Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire.

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٞ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِ رَيْبَ اَلْمَنُونِ﴿28﴾

أم يقولون شاعر نتربص به ريب المنون

Indeed, we used to call upon Him before. He is indeed the Most Kind, the Most Merciful.”

قُلْ تَرَبَّصُواْ فَإِنِّي مَعَكُم مِّنَ اَلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ﴿29﴾

قل تربصوا فإني معكم من المتربصين

So keep exhorting [O Prophet], for you are not, by the grace of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman.

أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَٰمُهُم بِهَٰذَا أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٞ طَاغُونَ﴿30﴾

أم تأمرهم أحلمهم بهذا أم هم قوم طاغون

Or do they say: “He is a poet for whom we await a misfortune”?

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُ بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿31﴾

أم يقولون تقوله بل لا يؤمنون

Say, “Wait, I too am waiting with you.”

فَلْيَأْتُواْ بِحَدِيثٖ مِّثْلِهِ إِن كَانُواْ صَٰدِقِينَ﴿32﴾

فليأتوا بحديث مثله إن كانوا صدقين

Do their minds prompt them to say such things, or are they transgressing people?

أَمْ خُلِقُواْ مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ اُلْخَٰلِقُونَ﴿33﴾

أم خلقوا من غير شيء أم هم الخلقون

Or do they say, “He has made this [Qur’an] up”? Rather, they are not willing to believe.

أَمْ خَلَقُواْ اُلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ﴿34﴾

أم خلقوا السموت والأرض بل لا يوقنون

Then let them produce a discourse like this, if they are truthful.

أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ اُلْمُصَيْطِرُونَ﴿35﴾

أم عندهم خزائن ربك أم هم المصيطرون

Were they created by none, or were they the creators [of themselves]?

أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٞ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَٰنٖ مُّبِينٍ﴿36﴾

أم لهم سلم يستمعون فيه فليأت مستمعهم بسلطن مبين

Or did they create the heavens and earth? Rather, they are not certain in faith.

أَمْ لَهُ اُلْبَنَٰتُ وَلَكُمُ اُلْبَنُونَ﴿37﴾

أم له البنت ولكم البنون

Or do they possess the treasures of your Lord, or do they have full control [of everything]?

أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْراٗ فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٖ مُّثْقَلُونَ﴿38﴾

أم تسـلهم أجرا فهم من مغرم مثقلون

Or do they have a stairway [to the heaven] by which they eavesdrop? Then let those who eavesdrop produce a compelling proof.

أَمْ عِندَهُمُ اُلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ﴿39﴾

أم عندهم الغيب فهم يكتبون

Or does He have daughters while you have sons?

أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْداٗ فَالذِينَ كَفَرُواْ هُمُ اُلْمَكِيدُونَ﴿40﴾

أم يريدون كيدا فالذين كفروا هم المكيدون

Or are you asking them [O Prophet] for a reward so they are overburdened by debt?

أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ اُللَّهِ سُبْحَٰنَ اَللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ﴿41﴾

أم لهم إله غير الله سبحن الله عما يشركون

Or do they have [the knowledge of] the unseen so they are writing it down?

وَإِنْ يَّرَوْاْ كِسْفاٗ مِّنَ اَلسَّمَآءِ سَاقِطاٗ يَقُولُواْ سَحَابٞ مَّرْكُومٞ﴿42﴾

وإن يروا كسفا من السماء ساقطا يقولوا سحاب مركوم

Or do they intend a plot [against the Prophet]? But the plot of the disbelievers will rebound against themselves.

فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُواْ يَوْمَهُمُ اُلذِي فِيهِ يَصْعَقُونَ﴿43﴾

فذرهم حتى يلقوا يومهم الذي فيه يصعقون

Or do they have a god other than Allah? Glory be to Allah far above what they associate with Him.

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَئْاٗ وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ﴿44﴾

يوم لا يغني عنهم كيدهم شيا ولا هم ينصرون

If they were to see pieces of the sky falling down, they would still say, “[This is only] a mass of clouds.”

وَإِنَّ لِلذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ عَذَاباٗ دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿45﴾

وإن للذين ظلموا عذابا دون ذلك ولكن أكثرهم لا يعلمون

So leave them alone until they encounter their Day in which they will be struck down,

وَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ﴿46﴾

واصبر لحكم ربك فإنك بأعيننا وسبح بحمد ربك حين تقوم

the Day their plots will not avail them in the least, nor will they be helped.

وَمِنَ اَليْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَٰرَ اَلنُّجُومِ﴿47﴾

ومن اليل فسبحه وإدبر النجوم

And for the wrongdoers, there will be another punishment before that, but most of them do not know.
