هَلْ أَتَيٰكَ حَدِيثُ اُلْغَٰشِيَةِ﴿1﴾
هل أتيك حديث الغشية
Has there come to you the story of the Overwhelming Event?
وُجُوهٞ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ﴿2﴾
وجوه يومئذ خشعة
On that Day, some faces will be humiliated,
عَامِلَةٞ نَّاصِبَةٞ﴿3﴾
عاملة ناصبة
overburdened and weary,
تَصْلَىٰ نَاراً حَامِيَةٗ﴿4﴾
تصلى نارا حامية
as they burn in a scorching Fire.
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٖ﴿5﴾
تسقى من عين ءانية
They will be made to drink from a boiling spring,
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٖ﴿6﴾
ليس لهم طعام إلا من ضريع
and they will have no food except bitter thorny plants,
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِن جُوعٖ﴿7﴾
لا يسمن ولا يغني من جوع
that neither nourishes nor satisfies hunger.
وُجُوهٞ يَوْمَئِذٖ نَّاعِمَةٞ﴿8﴾
وجوه يومئذ ناعمة
Other faces on that Day will be joyful,
لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٞ﴿9﴾
لسعيها راضية
well-pleased with their past striving,
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٖ﴿10﴾
في جنة عالية
in an elevated garden,
لَّا تُسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةٞ﴿11﴾
لا تسمع فيها لغية
wherein no idle talk will be heard.
فِيهَا عَيْنٞ جَارِيَةٞ﴿12﴾
فيها عين جارية
There will be a flowing spring;
فِيهَا سُرُرٞ مَّرْفُوعَةٞ﴿13﴾
فيها سرر مرفوعة
and couches raised high,
وَأَكْوَابٞ مَّوْضُوعَةٞ﴿14﴾
وأكواب موضوعة
and cups placed ready,
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٞ﴿15﴾
ونمارق مصفوفة
and cushions lined up,
وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ﴿16﴾
وزرابي مبثوثة
and splendid carpets spread out.
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى اَلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ﴿17﴾
أفلا ينظرون إلى الإبل كيف خلقت
Do they not reflect on the camel, how it is created;
وَإِلَى اَلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ﴿18﴾
وإلى السماء كيف رفعت
and the sky, how it is raised high;
وَإِلَى اَلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ﴿19﴾
وإلى الجبال كيف نصبت
and the mountains, how they are firmly set up;
وَإِلَى اَلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ﴿20﴾
وإلى الأرض كيف سطحت
and the earth, how it is spread out?
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٞ﴿21﴾
فذكر إنما أنت مذكر
So remind [O Prophet]; your duty is only to remind;
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ﴿22﴾
لست عليهم بمصيطر
you are not assigned to compel them.
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ﴿23﴾
إلا من تولى وكفر
But whoever turns away and disbelieves,
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اُللَّهُ اُلْعَذَابَ اَلْأَكْبَرَ﴿24﴾
فيعذبه الله العذاب الأكبر
Allah will inflict upon him the greatest punishment.
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَا إِيَابَهُمْ﴿25﴾
إن إلينا إيابهم
Indeed, to Us is their return,
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم﴿26﴾
ثم إن علينا حسابهم
then it is for Us to call them to account.
