وَيْلٞ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ﴿1﴾
ويل للمطففين
Woe to the defrauders,
اَلذِينَ إِذَا اَكْتَالُواْ عَلَى اَلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ﴿2﴾
الذين إذا اكتالوا على الناس يستوفون
those who take full measure when they take from others,
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ﴿3﴾
وإذا كالوهم أو وزنوهم يخسرون
but they give less when they measure or weigh for them.
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ﴿4﴾
ألا يظن أولئك أنهم مبعوثون
Do they really not think that they will be resurrected
لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٖ﴿5﴾
ليوم عظيم
for a momentous Day,
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ اُلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ اِلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿6﴾
يوم يقوم الناس لرب العلمين
a Day when people will stand before the Lord of the worlds?
كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ اَلْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٖ﴿7﴾
كلا إن كتب الفجار لفي سجين
No indeed! The record of the wicked is surely in Sijjīn.
وَمَا أَدْرَيٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٞ﴿8﴾
وما أدريك ما سجين
How do you know what Sijjīn is?
كِتَٰبٞ مَّرْقُومٞ﴿9﴾
كتب مرقوم
It is a clearly inscribed Record.
وَيْلٞ يَوْمَئِذٖ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿10﴾
ويل يومئذ للمكذبين
Woe on that Day to the deniers,
اَلذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ اِلدِّينِ﴿11﴾
الذين يكذبون بيوم الدين
those who deny the Judgment Day!
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ﴿12﴾
وما يكذب به إلا كل معتد أثيم
None denies it except every sinful transgressor.
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ اُلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿13﴾
إذا تتلى عليه ءايتنا قال أسطير الأولين
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, “Ancient fables!”
كَلَّا بَل رَّانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ يَكْسِبُونَ﴿14﴾
كلا بل ران على قلوبهم ما كانوا يكسبون
No indeed! Their hearts have been stained by what they used to commit!
كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٖ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ﴿15﴾
كلا إنهم عن ربهم يومئذ لمحجوبون
No indeed! On that Day they will be barred from seeing their Lord.
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُواْ اُلْجَحِيمِ﴿16﴾
ثم إنهم لصالوا الجحيم
They will then surely enter the Blazing Fire,
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا اَلذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ﴿17﴾
ثم يقال هذا الذي كنتم به تكذبون
then they will be told, “This is what you used to deny.”
كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ اَلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ﴿18﴾
كلا إن كتب الأبرار لفي عليين
No indeed! The record of the righteous is certainly in ‘illiyyīn –
وَمَا أَدْرَيٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ﴿19﴾
وما أدريك ما عليون
and how do you know what ‘illiyyūn is? –
كِتَٰبٞ مَّرْقُومٞ﴿20﴾
كتب مرقوم
It is a record inscribed,
يَشْهَدُهُ اُلْمُقَرَّبُونَ﴿21﴾
يشهده المقربون
witnessed by those who are close to Allah.
إِنَّ اَلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ﴿22﴾
إن الأبرار لفي نعيم
Indeed, the righteous will be in Bliss,
عَلَى اَلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ﴿23﴾
على الأرائك ينظرون
seated on the couches, gazing in wonder.
تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ اَلنَّعِيمِ﴿24﴾
تعرف في وجوههم نضرة النعيم
You will see on their faces the radiance of bliss.
يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٖ مَّخْتُومٍ﴿25﴾
يسقون من رحيق مختوم
They will be served to drink pure wine from a sealed container,
خِتَٰمُهُ مِسْكٞ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ اِلْمُتَنَٰفِسُونَ﴿26﴾
ختمه مسك وفي ذلك فليتنافس المتنفسون
whose last sip is musk – let those who strive, strive for that –
وَمِزَاجُهُ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ﴿27﴾
ومزاجه من تسنيم
and it will be mixed with water from the spring of Tasnīm,
عَيْناٗ يَشْرَبُ بِهَا اَلْمُقَرَّبُونَ﴿28﴾
عينا يشرب بها المقربون
a spring from which those who are close to Allah will drink.
إِنَّ اَلذِينَ أَجْرَمُواْ كَانُواْ مِنَ اَلذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ يَضْحَكُونَ﴿29﴾
إن الذين أجرموا كانوا من الذين ءامنوا يضحكون
Indeed, the wicked used to laugh at the believers;
وَإِذَا مَرُّواْ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ﴿30﴾
وإذا مروا بهم يتغامزون
when they passed by them, they would wink at one another,
وَإِذَا اَنقَلَبُواْ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمُ اُنقَلَبُواْ فَٰكِهِينَ﴿31﴾
وإذا انقلبوا إلى أهلهم انقلبوا فكهين
and when they went back to their people, they would return exulting.
وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُواْ إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ﴿32﴾
وإذا رأوهم قالوا إن هؤلاء لضالون
When they saw the believers, they would say, “These people are truly misguided,”
وَمَا أُرْسِلُواْ عَلَيْهِمْ حَٰفِظِينَ﴿33﴾
وما أرسلوا عليهم حفظين
although they were not sent as their keepers.
فَالْيَوْمَ اَلذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مِنَ اَلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ﴿34﴾
فاليوم الذين ءامنوا من الكفار يضحكون
So Today the believers will laugh at the disbelievers,
عَلَى اَلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ﴿35﴾
على الأرائك ينظرون
while sitting on the couches, gazing around.
هَلْ ثُوِّبَ اَلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُواْ يَفْعَلُونَ﴿36﴾
هل ثوب الكفار ما كانوا يفعلون
Have the disbelievers been rewarded except for what they used to do?
