طه

طَهَ مَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ اَلْقُرْءَانَ لِتَشْقَىٰ﴿1﴾

طه ما أنزلنا عليك القرءان لتشقى

Tā Ha

إِلَّا تَذْكِرَةٗ لِّمَنْ يَّخْشَىٰ﴿2﴾

إلا تذكرة لمن يخشى

We have not sent down the Qur’an to you [O Prophet] to cause you distress,

تَنزِيلاٗ مِّمَّنْ خَلَقَ اَلْأَرْضَ وَالسَّمَٰوَٰتِ اِلْعُلَى﴿3﴾

تنزيلا ممن خلق الأرض والسموت العلى

but as a reminder for those who fear Allah.

اَلرَّحْمَٰنُ عَلَى اَلْعَرْشِ اِسْتَوَىٰ﴿4﴾

الرحمن على العرش استوى

A revelation from the One Who created the earth and the high heavens.

لَهُ مَا فِي اِلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي اِلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمَا تَحْتَ اَلثَّرَىٰ﴿5﴾

له ما في السموت وما في الأرض وما بينهما وما تحت الثرى

The Most Compassionate rose over the Throne.

وَإِن تَجْهَرْ بِالْقَوْلِ فَإِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ اُلسِّرَّ وَأَخْفَى﴿6﴾

وإن تجهر بالقول فإنه يعلم السر وأخفى

To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth, and all that is between them, and all that is beneath the soil.

اَللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ لَهُ اُلْأَسْمَآءُ اُلْحُسْنَىٰ﴿7﴾

الله لا إله إلا هو له الأسماء الحسنى

Whether you speak loudly [or not], He surely knows what is secret and what is even more hidden.

وَهَلْ أَتَيٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰ﴿8﴾

وهل أتيك حديث موسى

Allah – none has the right to be worshiped except Him. He has the Most Beautiful Names.

إِذْ رَءَا نَاراٗ فَقَالَ لِأَهْلِهِ اِمْكُثُواْ إِنِّيَ ءَانَسْتُ نَاراٗ لَّعَلِّيَ ءَاتِيكُم مِّنْهَا بِقَبَسٍ أَوْ أَجِدُ عَلَى اَلنَّارِ هُدىٗ﴿9﴾

إذ رءا نارا فقال لأهله امكثوا إني ءانست نارا لعلي ءاتيكم منها بقبس أو أجد على النار هدى

Has there come to you the story of Moses?

فَلَمَّا أَتَيٰهَا نُودِيَ يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿10﴾

فلما أتيها نودي يموسى

When he saw a fire, he said to his family, “Stay here. I have spotted a fire; I may bring you a flaming brand from it, or find some guidance at the fire.”

إِنِّيَ أَنَا رَبُّكَ فَاخْلَعْ نَعْلَيْكَ إِنَّكَ بِالْوَادِ اِلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوَىٰ﴿11﴾

إني أنا ربك فاخلع نعليك إنك بالواد المقدس طوى

When he came to it, he was called, “O Moses,

وَأَنَا اَخْتَرْتُكَ فَاسْتَمِعْ لِمَا يُوحَىٰ﴿12﴾

وأنا اخترتك فاستمع لما يوحى

Indeed, I am your Lord, so take off your shoes; you are in the sacred valley of Tuwā.

إِنَّنِيَ أَنَا اَللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا فَاعْبُدْنِي وَأَقِمِ اِلصَّلَوٰةَ لِذِكْرِيَ﴿13﴾

إنني أنا الله لا إله إلا أنا فاعبدني وأقم الصلوة لذكري

I have chosen you, so listen to what is being revealed:

إِنَّ اَلسَّاعَةَ ءَاتِيَةٌ أَكَادُ أُخْفِيهَا لِتُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسِ بِمَا تَسْعَىٰ﴿14﴾

إن الساعة ءاتية أكاد أخفيها لتجزى كل نفس بما تسعى

‘Indeed, I am Allah; none has the right to be worshiped except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer to remember Me.

فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكَ عَنْهَا مَن لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِهَا وَاتَّبَعَ هَوَيٰهُ فَتَرْدَىٰ﴿15﴾

فلا يصدنك عنها من لا يؤمن بها واتبع هويه فتردى

The Hour is certainly coming, but I almost keep it hidden, so that every soul will be recompensed for what it strives.

وَمَا تِلْكَ بِيَمِينِكَ يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿16﴾

وما تلك بيمينك يموسى

So do not let those who disbelieve in it and follow their desires distract you from it, or you will perish.’”

قَالَ هِيَ عَصَايَ أَتَوَكَّؤُاْ عَلَيْهَا وَأَهُشُّ بِهَا عَلَىٰ غَنَمِي وَلِي فِيهَا مَـَٔارِبُ أُخْرَىٰ﴿17﴾

قال هي عصاي أتوكؤا عليها وأهش بها على غنمي ولي فيها مـارب أخرى

What is that in your right hand, O Moses?”

قَالَ أَلْقِهَا يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿18﴾

قال ألقها يموسى

He said, “It is my staff. I lean on it and beat down leaves with it for my sheep, and I have other uses for it.”

فَأَلْقَيٰهَا فَإِذَا هِيَ حَيَّةٞ تَسْعَىٰ﴿19﴾

فألقيها فإذا هي حية تسعى

Allah said, “Throw it down, O Moses!”

قَالَ خُذْهَا وَلَا تَخَفْ سَنُعِيدُهَا سِيرَتَهَا اَلْأُولَىٰ﴿20﴾

قال خذها ولا تخف سنعيدها سيرتها الأولى

He threw it down, and it suddenly became a slithering snake.

وَاضْمُمْ يَدَكَ إِلَىٰ جَنَاحِكَ تَخْرُجْ بَيْضَآءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سُوٓءٍ ءَايَةً أُخْرَىٰ﴿21﴾

واضمم يدك إلى جناحك تخرج بيضاء من غير سوء ءاية أخرى

Allah said, “Pick it up and have no fear. We will restore it to its former state.

لِنُرِيَكَ مِنْ ءَايَٰتِنَا اَلْكُبْرَى﴿22﴾

لنريك من ءايتنا الكبرى

Put your hand under your armpit; it will come out shining white without blemish, as another sign,

اَذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَىٰ﴿23﴾

اذهب إلى فرعون إنه طغى

so that We may show you some of Our greatest signs.

قَالَ رَبِّ اِشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي﴿24﴾

قال رب اشرح لي صدري

Go to Pharaoh, for he has transgressed all bounds.”

وَيَسِّرْ لِيَ أَمْرِي﴿25﴾

ويسر لي أمري

He said, “My Lord, reassure my heart for me,

وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةٗ مِّن لِّسَانِي﴿26﴾

واحلل عقدة من لساني

and ease my task for me,

يَفْقَهُواْ قَوْلِي﴿27﴾

يفقهوا قولي

and loosen the knot from my tongue,

وَاجْعَل لِّي وَزِيراٗ مِّنْ أَهْلِي﴿28﴾

واجعل لي وزيرا من أهلي

so that they may understand my speech.

هَٰرُونَ أَخِي﴿29﴾

هرون أخي

And appoint for me a helper from my family,

اِشْدُدْ بِهِ أَزْرِي﴿30﴾

اشدد به أزري

Aaron, my brother.

وَأَشْرِكْهُ فِي أَمْرِي﴿31﴾

وأشركه في أمري

Increase my strength through him,

كَيْ نُسَبِّحَكَ كَثِيراٗ﴿32﴾

كي نسبحك كثيرا

and let him share my task,

وَنَذْكُرَكَ كَثِيراً﴿33﴾

ونذكرك كثيرا

so that we may glorify You much,

إِنَّكَ كُنتَ بِنَا بَصِيراٗ﴿34﴾

إنك كنت بنا بصيرا

and remember You much.

قَالَ قَدْ أُوتِيتَ سُؤْلَكَ يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿35﴾

قال قد أوتيت سؤلك يموسى

For indeed You are All-Watchful over us.”

وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَيْكَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَىٰ﴿36﴾

ولقد مننا عليك مرة أخرى

Allah said, “You are granted your request, O Moses.

إِذْ أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ أُمِّكَ مَا يُوحَىٰ﴿37﴾

إذ أوحينا إلى أمك ما يوحى

And We had already conferred favor upon you before,

أَنِ اِقْذِفِيهِ فِي اِلتَّابُوتِ فَاقْذِفِيهِ فِي اِلْيَمِّ فَلْيُلْقِهِ اِلْيَمُّ بِالسَّاحِلِ يَأْخُذْهُ عَدُوّٞ لِّي وَعَدُوّٞ لَّهُ وَأَلْقَيْتُ عَلَيْكَ مَحَبَّةٗ مِّنِّي﴿38﴾

أن اقذفيه في التابوت فاقذفيه في اليم فليلقه اليم بالساحل يأخذه عدو لي وعدو له وألقيت عليك محبة مني

when We inspired your mother, saying,

وَلِتُصْنَعَ عَلَىٰ عَيْنِيَ﴿39﴾

ولتصنع على عيني

‘Put him into the casket, then cast it into the river. The river will carry it to the shore, and he will be picked up by one who is an enemy to Me and enemy to him.’ I bestowed upon you love from Myself so that you would be brought up under My [watchful] Eye.

إِذْ تَمْشِي أُخْتُكَ فَتَقُولُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَىٰ مَنْ يَّكْفُلُهُ فَرَجَعْنَٰكَ إِلَىٰ أُمِّكَ كَيْ تَقَرَّ عَيْنُهَا وَلَا تَحْزَنَ وَقَتَلْتَ نَفْساٗ فَنَجَّيْنَٰكَ مِنَ اَلْغَمِّ وَفَتَنَّٰكَ فُتُوناٗ فَلَبِثْتَ سِنِينَ فِي أَهْلِ مَدْيَنَ ثُمَّ جِئْتَ عَلَىٰ قَدَرٖ يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿40﴾

إذ تمشي أختك فتقول هل أدلكم على من يكفله فرجعنك إلى أمك كي تقر عينها ولا تحزن وقتلت نفسا فنجينك من الغم وفتنك فتونا فلبثت سنين في أهل مدين ثم جيت على قدر يموسى

When your sister was going along and said, ‘Shall I show you someone who will nurse him?’ Thus We brought you back to your mother, so that she may rejoice and not grieve. Then you killed a man [by mistake], but We saved you from distress, and We put you through several trials. You stayed among the people of Midian for several years, then you came [here] at a destined time, O Moses.

وَاصْطَنَعْتُكَ لِنَفْسِيَ اَذْهَبْ أَنتَ وَأَخُوكَ بِـَٔايَٰتِي وَلَا تَنِيَا فِي ذِكْرِيَ﴿41﴾

واصطنعتك لنفسي اذهب أنت وأخوك بـايتي ولا تنيا في ذكري

I have chosen you for Myself.

اَذْهَبَا إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَىٰ﴿42﴾

اذهبا إلى فرعون إنه طغى

Go forth, you and your brother, with My signs, and do not slacken in remembering Me.

فَقُولَا لَهُ قَوْلاٗ لَّيِّناٗ لَّعَلَّهُ يَتَذَكَّرُ أَوْ يَخْشَىٰ﴿43﴾

فقولا له قولا لينا لعله يتذكر أو يخشى

Go, both of you, to Pharaoh, for he has certainly transgressed all bounds.

قَالَا رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا نَخَافُ أَنْ يَّفْرُطَ عَلَيْنَا أَوْ أَنْ يَّطْغَىٰ﴿44﴾

قالا ربنا إننا نخاف أن يفرط علينا أو أن يطغى

But speak to him gently, so that he may take heed or fear Allah.”

قَالَ لَا تَخَافَا إِنَّنِي مَعَكُمَا أَسْمَعُ وَأَرَىٰ﴿45﴾

قال لا تخافا إنني معكما أسمع وأرى

They said, “Our Lord, we fear that he may hasten to punish us or transgress all bounds.”

فَأْتِيَٰهُ فَقُولَا إِنَّا رَسُولَا رَبِّكَ فَأَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِي إِسْرَآءِيلَ وَلَا تُعَذِّبْهُمْ قَدْ جِئْنَٰكَ بِـَٔايَةٖ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَالسَّلَٰمُ عَلَىٰ مَنِ اِتَّبَعَ اَلْهُدَىٰ﴿46﴾

فأتيه فقولا إنا رسولا ربك فأرسل معنا بني إسراءيل ولا تعذبهم قد جينك بـاية من ربك والسلم على من اتبع الهدى

He said, “Do not be afraid; I am with you both, hearing and seeing.

إِنَّا قَدْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيْنَا أَنَّ اَلْعَذَابَ عَلَىٰ مَن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ﴿47﴾

إنا قد أوحي إلينا أن العذاب على من كذب وتولى

So go to him and say, ‘We are both messengers from your Lord, so let the Children of Israel go with us and do not oppress them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord, and peace be upon he who follows the true guidance.

قَالَ فَمَن رَّبُّكُمَا يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿48﴾

قال فمن ربكما يموسى

It has been revealed to us that the punishment awaits those who reject [the truth] and turn away.’”

قَالَ رَبُّنَا اَلذِي أَعْطَىٰ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلْقَهُ ثُمَّ هَدَىٰ﴿49﴾

قال ربنا الذي أعطى كل شيء خلقه ثم هدى

Pharaoh said, “So who is the Lord of you two, O Moses?”

قَالَ فَمَا بَالُ اُلْقُرُونِ اِلْأُولَىٰ﴿50﴾

قال فما بال القرون الأولى

He said, “Our Lord is the One Who gave everything its form and then guided it.”

قَالَ عِلْمُهَا عِندَ رَبِّي فِي كِتَٰبٖ لَّا يَضِلُّ رَبِّي وَلَا يَنسَى﴿51﴾

قال علمها عند ربي في كتب لا يضل ربي ولا ينسى

Pharaoh said, “Then what about the former [disbelieving] nations?”

اَلذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ اُلْأَرْضَ مِهَٰداٗ وَسَلَكَ لَكُمْ فِيهَا سُبُلاٗ وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ اَلسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗ فَأَخْرَجْنَا بِهِ أَزْوَٰجاٗ مِّن نَّبَاتٖ شَتَّىٰ﴿52﴾

الذي جعل لكم الأرض مهدا وسلك لكم فيها سبلا وأنزل من السماء ماء فأخرجنا به أزوجا من نبات شتى

He said, “Its knowledge is with my Lord in a Record. My Lord never errs, nor does He forget.”

كُلُواْ وَارْعَوْاْ أَنْعَٰمَكُمْ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّأُوْلِي اِلنُّهَىٰ﴿53﴾

كلوا وارعوا أنعمكم إن في ذلك لأيت لأولي النهى

It is He Who spread out the earth for you and made therein pathways for you, and sent down rain from the sky; and We brought forth thereby various types of plants.

مِنْهَا خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ وَفِيهَا نُعِيدُكُمْ وَمِنْهَا نُخْرِجُكُمْ تَارَةً أُخْرَىٰ﴿54﴾

منها خلقنكم وفيها نعيدكم ومنها نخرجكم تارة أخرى

Eat and graze your livestock. Indeed, there are signs in this for people of sound intellect.

وَلَقَدْ أَرَيْنَٰهُ ءَايَٰتِنَا كُلَّهَا فَكَذَّبَ وَأَبَىٰ﴿55﴾

ولقد أرينه ءايتنا كلها فكذب وأبى

From this [earth] We created you, and to it We will return you, and from it We will raise you once again.

قَالَ أَجِئْتَنَا لِتُخْرِجَنَا مِنْ أَرْضِنَا بِسِحْرِكَ يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿56﴾

قال أجيتنا لتخرجنا من أرضنا بسحرك يموسى

We showed Pharaoh all Our signs, but he rejected them and refused to believe.

فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ بِسِحْرٖ مِّثْلِهِ فَاجْعَلْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ مَوْعِداٗ لَّا نُخْلِفُهُ نَحْنُ وَلَا أَنتَ مَكَاناٗ سِوىٗ﴿57﴾

فلنأتينك بسحر مثله فاجعل بيننا وبينك موعدا لا نخلفه نحن ولا أنت مكانا سوى

He said, “Have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?

قَالَ مَوْعِدُكُمْ يَوْمُ اُلزِّينَةِ وَأَنْ يُّحْشَرَ اَلنَّاسُ ضُحىٗ﴿58﴾

قال موعدكم يوم الزينة وأن يحشر الناس ضحى

We will surely bring you similar magic. So appoint a day between us that neither you nor we will fail to keep, in a convenient place.”

فَتَوَلَّىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فَجَمَعَ كَيْدَهُ ثُمَّ أَتَىٰ﴿59﴾

فتولى فرعون فجمع كيده ثم أتى

Moses said, “Your appointment is the festival day; let the people be gathered at forenoon.”

قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰ وَيْلَكُمْ لَا تَفْتَرُواْ عَلَى اَللَّهِ كَذِباٗ فَيَسْحَتَكُم بِعَذَابٖ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ اِفْتَرَىٰ﴿60﴾

قال لهم موسى ويلكم لا تفتروا على الله كذبا فيسحتكم بعذاب وقد خاب من افترى

So Pharaoh went away and put together his scheme, then came forth.

فَتَنَٰزَعُواْ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ وَأَسَرُّواْ اُلنَّجْوَىٰ﴿61﴾

فتنزعوا أمرهم بينهم وأسروا النجوى

Moses said to them, “Woe to you, do not fabricate lies against Allah, lest He exterminate you with a punishment. Those who fabricate lies are bound to fail.”

قَالُواْ إِنَّ هَٰذَٰنِ لَسَٰحِرَٰنِ يُرِيدَٰنِ أَنْ يُّخْرِجَٰكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِمَا وَيَذْهَبَا بِطَرِيقَتِكُمُ اُلْمُثْلَىٰ﴿62﴾

قالوا إن هذن لسحرن يريدن أن يخرجكم من أرضكم بسحرهما ويذهبا بطريقتكم المثلى

Then they disputed the matter among themselves and kept their talk private.

فَأَجْمِعُواْ كَيْدَكُمْ ثُمَّ اَئْتُواْ صَفّاٗ وَقَدْ أَفْلَحَ اَلْيَوْمَ مَنِ اِسْتَعْلَىٰ﴿63﴾

فأجمعوا كيدكم ثم ايتوا صفا وقد أفلح اليوم من استعلى

They said, “These two are merely magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and destroy your exemplary way of life.

قَالُواْ يَٰمُوسَىٰ إِمَّا أَن تُلْقِيَ وَإِمَّا أَن نَّكُونَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَلْقَىٰ﴿64﴾

قالوا يموسى إما أن تلقي وإما أن نكون أول من ألقى

So gather your scheme, then line up in a row. Whoever prevails today is indeed the victor.”

قَالَ بَلْ أَلْقُواْ فَإِذَا حِبَالُهُمْ وَعِصِيُّهُمْ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِن سِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّهَا تَسْعَىٰ﴿65﴾

قال بل ألقوا فإذا حبالهم وعصيهم يخيل إليه من سحرهم أنها تسعى

They said, “O Moses, either you throw or shall we be the first to throw!”

فَأَوْجَسَ فِي نَفْسِهِ خِيفَةٗ مُّوسَىٰ﴿66﴾

فأوجس في نفسه خيفة موسى

He said, “No; you throw first.” Suddenly their ropes and staffs appeared to him, owing to their magic, as if they were slithering.

قُلْنَا لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ اَلْأَعْلَىٰ﴿67﴾

قلنا لا تخف إنك أنت الأعلى

Then Moses sensed fear within himself.

وَأَلْقِ مَا فِي يَمِينِكَ تَلَقَّفْ مَا صَنَعُواْ إِنَّمَا صَنَعُواْ كَيْدُ سَٰحِرٖ وَلَا يُفْلِحُ اُلسَّاحِرُ حَيْثُ أَتَىٰ﴿68﴾

وألق ما في يمينك تلقف ما صنعوا إنما صنعوا كيد سحر ولا يفلح الساحر حيث أتى

We said, “Do not be afraid; it is you who will prevail.

فَأُلْقِيَ اَلسَّحَرَةُ سُجَّداٗ قَالُواْ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ هَٰرُونَ وَمُوسَىٰ﴿69﴾

فألقي السحرة سجدا قالوا ءامنا برب هرون وموسى

Throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have contrived. They have only contrived a magic trick, and the magician will never prosper, wherever he goes.”

قَالَ ءَاٰمَنتُمْ لَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمْ إِنَّهُ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ اُلذِي عَلَّمَكُمُ اُلسِّحْرَ فَلَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَٰفٖ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ فِي جُذُوعِ اِلنَّخْلِ وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ أَيُّنَا أَشَدُّ عَذَاباٗ وَأَبْقَىٰ﴿70﴾

قال ءامنتم له قبل أن ءاذن لكم إنه لكبيركم الذي علمكم السحر فلأقطعن أيديكم وأرجلكم من خلف ولأصلبنكم في جذوع النخل ولتعلمن أينا أشد عذابا وأبقى

So the magicians fell down in prostration, saying, “We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.”

قَالُواْ لَن نُّؤْثِرَكَ عَلَىٰ مَا جَآءَنَا مِنَ اَلْبَيِّنَٰتِ وَالذِي فَطَرَنَا فَاقْضِ مَا أَنتَ قَاضٍ إِنَّمَا تَقْضِي هَٰذِهِ اِلْحَيَوٰةَ اَلدُّنْيَا﴿71﴾

قالوا لن نؤثرك على ما جاءنا من البينت والذي فطرنا فاقض ما أنت قاض إنما تقضي هذه الحيوة الدنيا

Pharaoh said, “How dare you believe in him before I give you permission! He must be your master who taught you magic! I will surely cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees; you will surely know whose punishment is more severe and more lasting!”

إِنَّا ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّنَا لِيَغْفِرَ لَنَا خَطَٰيَٰنَا وَمَا أَكْرَهْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ مِنَ اَلسِّحْرِ وَاللَّهُ خَيْرٞ وَأَبْقَىٰ﴿72﴾

إنا ءامنا بربنا ليغفر لنا خطينا وما أكرهتنا عليه من السحر والله خير وأبقى

They said, “We will never prefer you over the clear signs that have come to us, or over the One Who created us. So decide whatever you will. You can only make a decision about the life of this world.

إِنَّهُ مَنْ يَّأْتِ رَبَّهُ مُجْرِماٗ فَإِنَّ لَهُ جَهَنَّمَ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ﴿73﴾

إنه من يأت ربه مجرما فإن له جهنم لا يموت فيها ولا يحيى

We surely believe in our Lord so that He may forgive us our sins and the magic that you have compelled us to practice, for Allah is best [in reward] and more lasting [in punishment].”

وَمَنْ يَّأْتِهِ مُؤْمِناٗ قَدْ عَمِلَ اَلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ اُلدَّرَجَٰتُ اُلْعُلَىٰ﴿74﴾

ومن يأته مؤمنا قد عمل الصلحت فأولئك لهم الدرجت العلى

Whoever comes to his Lord as an evildoer, for him is Hell; he will neither die therein nor live.

جَنَّٰتُ عَدْنٖ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا اَلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَآءُ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ﴿75﴾

جنت عدن تجري من تحتها الأنهر خلدين فيها وذلك جزاء من تزكى

But whoever comes to Him as a believer, having done righteous deeds, it is they who will have the highest ranks:

وَلَقَدْ أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنِ اِسْرِ بِعِبَادِي فَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ طَرِيقاٗ فِي اِلْبَحْرِ يَبَساٗ لَّا تَخَٰفُ دَرَكاٗ وَلَا تَخْشَىٰ﴿76﴾

ولقد أوحينا إلى موسى أن اسر بعبادي فاضرب لهم طريقا في البحر يبسا لا تخف دركا ولا تخشى

Gardens of Eternity, under which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. Such is the reward of those who purify themselves.

فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ بِجُنُودِهِ فَغَشِيَهُم مِّنَ اَلْيَمِّ مَا غَشِيَهُمْ وَأَضَلَّ فِرْعَوْنُ قَوْمَهُ وَمَا هَدَىٰ﴿77﴾

فأتبعهم فرعون بجنوده فغشيهم من اليم ما غشيهم وأضل فرعون قومه وما هدى

We inspired Moses, “Travel by night with My slaves, and strike for them a dry path across the sea. Have no fear of being overtaken, nor be afraid [of drowning].”

يَٰبَنِي إِسْرَآءِيلَ قَدْ أَنجَيْنَٰكُم مِّنْ عَدُوِّكُمْ وَوَٰعَدْنَٰكُمْ جَانِبَ اَلطُّورِ اِلْأَيْمَنَ وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ اُلْمَنَّ وَالسَّلْوَىٰ﴿78﴾

يبني إسراءيل قد أنجينكم من عدوكم ووعدنكم جانب الطور الأيمن ونزلنا عليكم المن والسلوى

Then Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, but they were completely overwhelmed by the sea.

كُلُواْ مِن طَيِّبَٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنَٰكُمْ وَلَا تَطْغَوْاْ فِيهِ فَيَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبِي وَمَنْ يَّحْلِلْ عَلَيْهِ غَضَبِي فَقَدْ هَوَىٰ﴿79﴾

كلوا من طيبت ما رزقنكم ولا تطغوا فيه فيحل عليكم غضبي ومن يحلل عليه غضبي فقد هوى

Thus Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide them.

وَإِنِّي لَغَفَّارٞ لِّمَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَٰلِحاٗ ثُمَّ اَهْتَدَىٰ﴿80﴾

وإني لغفار لمن تاب وءامن وعمل صلحا ثم اهتدى

O Children of Israel, We rescued you from your enemy, and made an appointment with you on the right side of Mount Tūr [in Sinai], and sent down for you manna and quails,

وَمَا أَعْجَلَكَ عَن قَوْمِكَ يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿81﴾

وما أعجلك عن قومك يموسى

[saying], “Eat from the good things We have provided for you, but do not exceed the limits therein, or My wrath will befall you, for anyone upon whom My wrath befalls is perished.

قَالَ هُمْ أُوْلَآءِ عَلَىٰ أَثَرِي وَعَجِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ رَبِّ لِتَرْضَىٰ﴿82﴾

قال هم أولاء على أثري وعجلت إليك رب لترضى

I am indeed Most Forgiving to those who repent and believe, and do righteous deeds, then stay on the right path.”

قَالَ فَإِنَّا قَدْ فَتَنَّا قَوْمَكَ مِن بَعْدِكَ وَأَضَلَّهُمُ اُلسَّامِرِيُّ﴿83﴾

قال فإنا قد فتنا قومك من بعدك وأضلهم السامري

[Allah asked], “What made you hasten from your people, O Moses?”

فَرَجَعَ مُوسَىٰ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ غَضْبَٰنَ أَسِفاٗ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ أَلَمْ يَعِدْكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ وَعْداً حَسَناً﴿84﴾

فرجع موسى إلى قومه غضبن أسفا قال يقوم ألم يعدكم ربكم وعدا حسنا

He said, “They are following my footsteps; I hastened to You, my Lord, to please You.”

أَفَطَالَ عَلَيْكُمُ اُلْعَهْدُ أَمْ أَرَدتُّمْ أَنْ يَّحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبٞ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُم مَّوْعِدِي﴿85﴾

أفطال عليكم العهد أم أردتم أن يحل عليكم غضب من ربكم فأخلفتم موعدي

Allah said, “We have certainly tested your people in your absence, and Sāmiri has led them astray.”

قَالُواْ مَا أَخْلَفْنَا مَوْعِدَكَ بِمَلْكِنَا وَلَٰكِنَّا حُمِّلْنَا أَوْزَاراٗ مِّن زِينَةِ اِلْقَوْمِ فَقَذَفْنَٰهَا فَكَذَٰلِكَ أَلْقَى اَلسَّامِرِيُّ فَأَخْرَجَ لَهُمْ عِجْلاٗ جَسَداٗ لَّهُ خُوَارٞ فَقَالُواْ هَٰذَا إِلَٰهُكُمْ وَإِلَٰهُ مُوسَىٰ فَنَسِيَ﴿86﴾

قالوا ما أخلفنا موعدك بملكنا ولكنا حملنا أوزارا من زينة القوم فقذفنها فكذلك ألقى السامري فأخرج لهم عجلا جسدا له خوار فقالوا هذا إلهكم وإله موسى فنسي

So Moses returned to his people, angry and sorrowful. He said, “O my people, did your Lord not promise you a good promise? Was my absence too long for you, or did you want the wrath from your Lord to befall you, so you broke your promise to me?”

أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَلَّا يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَوْلاٗ﴿87﴾

أفلا يرون ألا يرجع إليهم قولا

They said, “We did not break our promise to you out of our own free will, but we were made to carry loads of the people’s jewelry, so we threw them [into the fire], and so did the Sāmiri throw.”

وَلَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ ضَرّاٗ وَلَا نَفْعاٗ﴿88﴾

ولا يملك لهم ضرا ولا نفعا

Then he molded for them an image of a calf that made a mooing sound. They said, “This is your god and Moses’ god, but he has forgotten.”

وَلَقَدْ قَالَ لَهُمْ هَٰرُونُ مِن قَبْلُ يَٰقَوْمِ إِنَّمَا فُتِنتُم بِهِ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ اُلرَّحْمَٰنُ فَاتَّبِعُونِي وَأَطِيعُواْ أَمْرِي﴿89﴾

ولقد قال لهم هرون من قبل يقوم إنما فتنتم به وإن ربكم الرحمن فاتبعوني وأطيعوا أمري

Do they not see that it does not respond a word to them, nor does it have the power to harm or benefit them?

قَالُواْ لَن نَّبْرَحَ عَلَيْهِ عَٰكِفِينَ حَتَّىٰ يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ﴿90﴾

قالوا لن نبرح عليه عكفين حتى يرجع إلينا موسى

Aaron told them beforehand, “O my people, you are being tested with it. Your Lord is the Most Compassionate, so follow me and obey my command.”

قَالَ يَٰهَٰرُونُ مَا مَنَعَكَ إِذْ رَأَيْتَهُمْ ضَلُّواْ أَلَّا تَتَّبِعَنِ أَفَعَصَيْتَ أَمْرِي﴿91﴾

قال يهرون ما منعك إذ رأيتهم ضلوا ألا تتبعن أفعصيت أمري

They said, “We will never cease to worship it until Moses comes back to us.”

قَالَ يَبْنَؤُمَّ لَا تَأْخُذْ بِلِحْيَتِي وَلَا بِرَأْسِيَ إِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَن تَقُولَ فَرَّقْتَ بَيْنَ بَنِي إِسْرَآءِيلَ وَلَمْ تَرْقُبْ قَوْلِي﴿92﴾

قال يبنؤم لا تأخذ بلحيتي ولا برأسي إني خشيت أن تقول فرقت بين بني إسراءيل ولم ترقب قولي

Moses said, “O Aaron, what prevented you when you saw them going astray,

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكَ يَٰسَٰمِرِيُّ﴿93﴾

قال فما خطبك يسمري

from following me? Did you disobey my command?”

قَالَ بَصُرْتُ بِمَا لَمْ يَبْصُرُواْ بِهِ فَقَبَضْتُ قَبْضَةٗ مِّنْ أَثَرِ اِلرَّسُولِ فَنَبَذْتُهَا وَكَذَٰلِكَ سَوَّلَتْ لِي نَفْسِي﴿94﴾

قال بصرت بما لم يبصروا به فقبضت قبضة من أثر الرسول فنبذتها وكذلك سولت لي نفسي

Aaron said, “O son of my mother, do not seize me by my beard or by my head! I feared that you would say, ‘You have caused division among the Children of Israel, and did not heed my words.’”

قَالَ فَاذْهَبْ فَإِنَّ لَكَ فِي اِلْحَيَوٰةِ أَن تَقُولَ لَا مِسَاسَ وَإِنَّ لَكَ مَوْعِداٗ لَّن تُخْلَفَهُ وَانظُرْ إِلَىٰ إِلَٰهِكَ اَلذِي ظَلْتَ عَلَيْهِ عَاكِفاٗ لَّنُحَرِّقَنَّهُ ثُمَّ لَنَنسِفَنَّهُ فِي اِلْيَمِّ نَسْفاً﴿95﴾

قال فاذهب فإن لك في الحيوة أن تقول لا مساس وإن لك موعدا لن تخلفه وانظر إلى إلهك الذي ظلت عليه عاكفا لنحرقنه ثم لننسفنه في اليم نسفا

Moses said, “What is the matter with you, O Sāmiri?”

إِنَّمَا إِلَٰهُكُمُ اُللَّهُ اُلذِي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عِلْماٗ﴿96﴾

إنما إلهكم الله الذي لا إله إلا هو وسع كل شيء علما

He said, “I saw something they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the hoof-print of the horse of the messenger [Gabriel] and cast it [into the fire]. This is what my mind prompted me.”

كَذَٰلِكَ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنبَآءِ مَا قَدْ سَبَقَ وَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَٰكَ مِن لَّدُنَّا ذِكْراٗ﴿97﴾

كذلك نقص عليك من أنباء ما قد سبق وقد ءاتينك من لدنا ذكرا

Moses said, “Begone then! Your [punishment] in this life will be to say, ‘Do not touch me,’ but there awaits you an appointed time for your reckoning that you cannot escape. Now look at your so-called god which you kept worshiping; We will surely burn it and then scatter it in the sea.

مَّنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَحْمِلُ يَوْمَ اَلْقِيَٰمَةِ وِزْراً﴿98﴾

من أعرض عنه فإنه يحمل يوم القيمة وزرا

[O people], your god is only Allah; none has the right to be worshiped except Him. He encompasses everything in knowledge.”

خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهِ وَسَآءَ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ اَلْقِيَٰمَةِ حِمْلاٗ﴿99﴾

خلدين فيه وساء لهم يوم القيمة حملا

This is how We relate to you [O Prophet] from the stories of the past, and We have given you a Reminder from Us.

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِي اِلصُّورِ وَنَحْشُرُ اُلْمُجْرِمِينَ يَوْمَئِذٖ زُرْقاٗ﴿100﴾

يوم ينفخ في الصور ونحشر المجرمين يومئذ زرقا

Whoever turns away from it will bear a heavy burden on the Day of Resurrection,

يَتَخَٰفَتُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا عَشْراٗ﴿101﴾

يتخفتون بينهم إن لبثتم إلا عشرا

abiding therein forever. What a terrible burden they will carry on the Day of Resurrection!

نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذْ يَقُولُ أَمْثَلُهُمْ طَرِيقَةً إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا يَوْماٗ﴿102﴾

نحن أعلم بما يقولون إذ يقول أمثلهم طريقة إن لبثتم إلا يوما

the Day when the Trumpet will be blown; on that Day We will gather together the wicked sightless [from horror].

وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ اِلْجِبَالِ فَقُلْ يَنسِفُهَا رَبِّي نَسْفاٗ﴿103﴾

ويسـلونك عن الجبال فقل ينسفها ربي نسفا

They will whisper to one another, “You stayed no more than ten days [on earth].”

فَيَذَرُهَا قَاعاٗ صَفْصَفاٗ لَّا تَرَىٰ فِيهَا عِوَجاٗ وَلَا أَمْتاٗ﴿104﴾

فيذرها قاعا صفصفا لا ترى فيها عوجا ولا أمتا

We know best what they will say – the most discerning among them will say, “You stayed no more than a day.”

يَوْمَئِذٖ يَتَّبِعُونَ اَلدَّاعِيَ لَا عِوَجَ لَهُ وَخَشَعَتِ اِلْأَصْوَاتُ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ فَلَا تَسْمَعُ إِلَّا هَمْساٗ﴿105﴾

يومئذ يتبعون الداعي لا عوج له وخشعت الأصوات للرحمن فلا تسمع إلا همسا

They ask you about the mountains, say, “My Lord will scatter them into dust,

يَوْمَئِذٖ لَّا تَنفَعُ اُلشَّفَٰعَةُ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ اُلرَّحْمَٰنُ وَرَضِيَ لَهُ قَوْلاٗ﴿106﴾

يومئذ لا تنفع الشفعة إلا من أذن له الرحمن ورضي له قولا

and He will leave the earth level and plain,

يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِهِ عِلْماٗ﴿107﴾

يعلم ما بين أيديهم وما خلفهم ولا يحيطون به علما

you will not see therein any troughs or peaks.”

وَعَنَتِ اِلْوُجُوهُ لِلْحَيِّ اِلْقَيُّومِ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ حَمَلَ ظُلْماٗ﴿108﴾

وعنت الوجوه للحي القيوم وقد خاب من حمل ظلما

On that day, they will follow the summoner; none will dare to deviate. All voices will be hushed in awe before the Most Compassionate; you will hear nothing except a whisper.

وَمَنْ يَّعْمَلْ مِنَ اَلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَهْوَ مُؤْمِنٞ فَلَا يَخَافُ ظُلْماٗ وَلَا هَضْماٗ﴿109﴾

ومن يعمل من الصلحت وهو مؤمن فلا يخاف ظلما ولا هضما

On that day, no intercession will be of any use except to whom the Most Compassionate gave permission and approved his word.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ قُرْءَاناً عَرَبِيّاٗ وَصَرَّفْنَا فِيهِ مِنَ اَلْوَعِيدِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ أَوْ يُحْدِثُ لَهُمْ ذِكْراٗ﴿110﴾

وكذلك أنزلنه قرءانا عربيا وصرفنا فيه من الوعيد لعلهم يتقون أو يحدث لهم ذكرا

He knows all that is ahead of them and all that is behind them, but they do not encompass it with their knowledge.

فَتَعَٰلَى اَللَّهُ اُلْمَلِكُ اُلْحَقُّ وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِالْقُرْءَانِ مِن قَبْلِ أَنْ يُّقْضَىٰ إِلَيْكَ وَحْيُهُ وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْماٗ﴿111﴾

فتعلى الله الملك الحق ولا تعجل بالقرءان من قبل أن يقضى إليك وحيه وقل رب زدني علما

All faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, Self-Sustaining. Those burdened with wrongdoing will be in a total loss.

وَلَقَدْ عَهِدْنَا إِلَىٰ ءَادَمَ مِن قَبْلُ فَنَسِيَ وَلَمْ نَجِدْ لَهُ عَزْماٗ﴿112﴾

ولقد عهدنا إلى ءادم من قبل فنسي ولم نجد له عزما

But whoever does righteous deeds, being a believer, will have no fear of being wronged or deprived.

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ اِسْجُدُواْ لِأٓدَمَ فَسَجَدُواْ إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ﴿113﴾

وإذ قلنا للملئكة اسجدوا لأدم فسجدوا إلا إبليس أبى

We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an and diversified its warnings, so that they may fear Allah or it may cause them to take heed.

فَقُلْنَا يَٰـَٔادَمُ إِنَّ هَٰذَا عَدُوّٞ لَّكَ وَلِزَوْجِكَ فَلَا يُخْرِجَنَّكُمَا مِنَ اَلْجَنَّةِ فَتَشْقَىٰ﴿114﴾

فقلنا يـادم إن هذا عدو لك ولزوجك فلا يخرجنكما من الجنة فتشقى

So Exalted is Allah, the True Sovereign. Do not hasten to [recite] the Qur’an before its revelation to you is concluded, and say, “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”

إِنَّ لَكَ أَلَّا تَجُوعَ فِيهَا وَلَا تَعْرَىٰ﴿115﴾

إن لك ألا تجوع فيها ولا تعرى

We had already given a command to Adam before, but he forgot, and We found him lacking a firm resolve.

وَإِنَّكَ لَا تَظْمَؤُاْ فِيهَا وَلَا تَضْحَىٰ﴿116﴾

وإنك لا تظمؤا فيها ولا تضحى

When We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” they all prostrated, except Iblīs, who refused.

فَوَسْوَسَ إِلَيْهِ اِلشَّيْطَٰنُ قَالَ يَٰـَٔادَمُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَىٰ شَجَرَةِ اِلْخُلْدِ وَمُلْكٖ لَّا يَبْلَىٰ﴿117﴾

فوسوس إليه الشيطن قال يـادم هل أدلك على شجرة الخلد وملك لا يبلى

We said “O Adam, this is an enemy to you and to your wife, so do not let him drive you both out of Paradise, for then you will fall into misery.

فَأَكَلَا مِنْهَا فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَٰنِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِنْ وَّرَقِ اِلْجَنَّةِ وَعَصَىٰ ءَادَمُ رَبَّهُ فَغَوَىٰ﴿118﴾

فأكلا منها فبدت لهما سوءتهما وطفقا يخصفن عليهما من ورق الجنة وعصى ءادم ربه فغوى

Here you will neither go hungry nor naked,

ثُمَّ اَجْتَبَٰهُ رَبُّهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ وَهَدَىٰ﴿119﴾

ثم اجتبه ربه فتاب عليه وهدى

nor will you suffer from thirst or from scorching heat.”

قَالَ اَهْبِطَا مِنْهَا جَمِيعاَ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوّٞ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّي هُدىٗ﴿120﴾

قال اهبطا منها جميعا بعضكم لبعض عدو فإما يأتينكم مني هدى

Then Satan whispered to him, and said, “O Adam, shall I show you the tree of immortality and a kingdom that will never decay?”

فَمَنِ اِتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَىٰ﴿121﴾

فمن اتبع هداي فلا يضل ولا يشقى

So they both ate from the tree, then their nakedness was revealed to each other, and they began to put together leaves from Paradise to cover themselves. Thus Adam disobeyed his Lord and fell into error.

وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَن ذِكْرِي فَإِنَّ لَهُ مَعِيشَةٗ ضَنكاٗ وَنَحْشُرُهُ يَوْمَ اَلْقِيَٰمَةِ أَعْمَىٰ﴿122﴾

ومن أعرض عن ذكري فإن له معيشة ضنكا ونحشره يوم القيمة أعمى

Thereafter his Lord chose him, accepted his repentance, and guided him.

قَالَ رَبِّ لِمَ حَشَرْتَنِيَ أَعْمَىٰ وَقَدْ كُنتُ بَصِيراٗ﴿123﴾

قال رب لم حشرتني أعمى وقد كنت بصيرا

Allah said, “Get down, both of you, from here altogether [with Satan] as enemies to one another. Then when there comes to you guidance from Me, whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray nor fall into misery.

قَالَ كَذَٰلِكَ أَتَتْكَ ءَايَٰتُنَا فَنَسِيتَهَا وَكَذَٰلِكَ اَلْيَوْمَ تُنسَىٰ﴿124﴾

قال كذلك أتتك ءايتنا فنسيتها وكذلك اليوم تنسى

But whoever turns away from My Reminder will have a miserable life, and on the Day of Resurrection We will raise him blind.”

وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي مَنْ أَسْرَفَ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِن بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِ وَلَعَذَابُ اُلْأٓخِرَةِ أَشَدُّ وَأَبْقَىٰ﴿125﴾

وكذلك نجزي من أسرف ولم يؤمن بـايت ربه ولعذاب الأخرة أشد وأبقى

He will say, “My Lord, why have you raised me blind when I was able to see before?”

أَفَلَمْ يَهْدِ لَهُمْ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ اَلْقُرُونِ يَمْشُونَ فِي مَسَٰكِنِهِمْ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّأُوْلِي اِلنُّهَىٰ﴿126﴾

أفلم يهد لهم كم أهلكنا قبلهم من القرون يمشون في مسكنهم إن في ذلك لأيت لأولي النهى

Allah will say, “Similarly Our verses came to you, but you ignored them, so you will be ignored Today.”

وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٞ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَكَانَ لِزَاماٗ وَأَجَلٞ مُّسَمّىٗ﴿127﴾

ولولا كلمة سبقت من ربك لكان لزاما وأجل مسمى

This is how We recompense those who transgress the limits and do not believe in the verses of his Lord; and the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more lasting.

فَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ اِلشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا وَمِنْ ءَانَآءِيْ اِليْلِ فَسَبِّحْ وَأَطْرَافَ اَلنَّهَارِ لَعَلَّكَ تَرْضَىٰ﴿128﴾

فاصبر على ما يقولون وسبح بحمد ربك قبل طلوع الشمس وقبل غروبها ومن ءاناءي اليل فسبح وأطراف النهار لعلك ترضى

Is it not yet clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them, in whose dwellings they still walk about? There are signs in this for people of sound intellect.

وَلَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِ أَزْوَٰجاٗ مِّنْهُمْ زَهْرَةَ اَلْحَيَوٰةِ اِلدُّنْيَا﴿129﴾

ولا تمدن عينيك إلى ما متعنا به أزوجا منهم زهرة الحيوة الدنيا

Were it not for a prior decree from your Lord [O Prophet] and a time already set, they would have already been punished.

لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ وَرِزْقُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٞ وَأَبْقَىٰ﴿130﴾

لنفتنهم فيه ورزق ربك خير وأبقى

So be patient with what they say, and glorify your Lord with praise before sunrise and before sunset, and glorify Him during the night and at both ends of the day, so that you may be pleased [with the reward].

وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِالصَّلَوٰةِ وَاصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا لَا نَسْـَٔلُكَ رِزْقاٗ نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُكَ وَالْعَٰقِبَةُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ﴿131﴾

وأمر أهلك بالصلوة واصطبر عليها لا نسـلك رزقا نحن نرزقك والعقبة للتقوى

Do not turn your eyes covetously towards the various forms of splendor of this life that We have given some of the [disbelievers] to enjoy, as a trial for them. But the provision of your Lord is far better and more lasting.

وَقَالُواْ لَوْلَا يَأْتِينَا بِـَٔايَةٖ مِّن رَّبِّهِ أَوَلَمْ تَأْتِهِم بَيِّنَةُ مَا فِي اِلصُّحُفِ اِلْأُولَىٰ﴿132﴾

وقالوا لولا يأتينا بـاية من ربه أولم تأتهم بينة ما في الصحف الأولى

Enjoin your household to perform prayer and adhere to it firmly. We ask no provision from you; rather, it is We Who give you provision. And the best outcome is for those who fear Allah.

وَلَوْ أَنَّا أَهْلَكْنَٰهُم بِعَذَابٖ مِّن قَبْلِهِ لَقَالُواْ رَبَّنَا لَوْلَا أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولاٗ فَنَتَّبِعَ ءَايَٰتِكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن نَّذِلَّ وَنَخْزَىٰ﴿133﴾

ولو أنا أهلكنهم بعذاب من قبله لقالوا ربنا لولا أرسلت إلينا رسولا فنتبع ءايتك من قبل أن نذل ونخزى

They say, “Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?” Has there not come to them [the Qur’an as] a confirmation of what is in the earlier Scriptures?

قُلْ كُلّٞ مُّتَرَبِّصٞ فَتَرَبَّصُواْ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَصْحَٰبُ اُلصِّرَٰطِ اِلسَّوِيِّ وَمَنِ اِهْتَدَىٰ﴿134﴾

قل كل متربص فتربصوا فستعلمون من أصحب الصرط السوي ومن اهتدى

If We had destroyed them with a punishment before this, they would have said, “Our Lord, if only You had sent us a messenger so that we would have followed Your verses before being humiliated and disgraced.”
